He presents the material (at least for this class) very clearly. He tells you what you need to know using power point and it is very organized. So at least he is easy to learn from. His tests are mostly from lecture, and reading will help a little, but you should be able to pull off B's even if you don't read. He is not the most exciting prof ever, but he seems pretty friendly. He also seems to know his stuff well. Considering he is the only guy that teaches the class (which is a lecture of about 180) you don't have much choice. But even so, he is a pretty good teacher.

He lectures like he knows nobody is listening... kinda how I felt at least. Makes his lectures droning, but he definately knows his stuff. From taking notes in the lectures and reading I got a strong B on every exam piece of cake.

Overall the class was ok, slow at times. Grade is made up of three test weighted equally and for the test pretty much just covered notes from the lectures and diagrams from the book (really don't need the book, which isn't cheap at all).

He is a pretty good professor. There is no other choice but him, but he is good. He works with his students if you have a D anytime throughout the quarter. There is no work. I studied an hour before each test and got high C's / low B's on his two midterms and a final. Also, half way through the quarter, he had a review day where students could come in to class and ask any question. By going, he also tells you harder questions on the tests. His tests are pure multiple choice. If you put in the effort, you will do fine. I studied my notes and got a C. I never used the book. If you buy the book, skimming through the chapters and looking at the pictures seemed to help other students.

Having Stewart for 121, but probably for any class, is challenging. You must pay complete attertion at all times and not be surprised when he grades you down for some tiny detail that wasn't in the syllabus but he decided to change on a whim. He doesn't hand out compliments very easily - you will be thrilled when he says only that he doesn't see any problems. If you are looking for a class where you are graded on effort and improvement, this is not the class for you. Stewart expects your best on everything, no exceptions. Given all this, Stewart, as a person, is a good guy. He doesn't mind if you goof around a little in class, crack jokes and make noises. But unless you are willing to put in countless hours on every project, don't expect an A in this class.

Stewart is all around a good guy, generally approachable, and friendly. His biggest drawback is that he is boring. He doesn't make class exciting in any way, but he does present the material fully. His grading is generally fair, but hard. It is very hard to make an A on anything, but if you try hard you'll get a high B. He expect quality work, and good drawing from the beginning, so come prepared. If he says something nice about your work don't have a heart attack it happens every once in a while.

stewart is a good teacher. he grades hard but we're not here to be babied are we? we're here to get the best education possible. He helped transition from high school to college. He isn't very good at answering questions though (i.e. ask him when a project is due and he'll tell you the color of your shirt.) He can be boring but you can talk when you work and you can ask his opinion of your work before its due and you can make improvements on it, but he won't tell you what to do; its your job to figure it out. Homework load can be heavy (welcome to architecture!) but there arent any tests and there's no class during finals week. I got B's on some things that i thought i deserved A's on but my work wasn't perfect so i was happy with a B. Overall: very fair teacher; easy to approach.

I had Mr. Stewart this past Spring quarter. Granted, he is not always the most specific in his teaching style. I would go so far as to say that sometimes he goes out of his way to not help you. This are times, however, that he expects you to figure things out on his own. He has trust in his students. He will give you pointers along the way, but expects and encourages you to figure the problem out for yourself.

In a nutshell, a professor for those that are not interested in doing actual work or challenging themselves. If you're interested in having the option of partying every single night of every week, this is most likely the class for you. Be forewarned that the class atmosphere is a joke. People would arrive at our class at 12:50 and build their models in five minutes with duct tape and cereal boxes, leaving plenty of time for them to relax before class started at 1:10. George never gives positive input ever, it is always negative, never with any suggestions or comments on what is worth pursuing. Treat the class like a joke, bring in models made of cereal boxes, it's not worth the effort of actually working. Instead, pursue learning somewhere else.

Stewart is a good guy and the class doesn't have too much direction but personally I enjoy a professor that lets you take your project your own direction. One thing that I did enjoy about the class was he gave a couple formal evaluation throughout the quarter and it may not seem like it but he has a pretty good bead on your intentions in the class and as long as your good at working on your project without someone babying you he's great.

THIS GUY IS AN IDIOT...and should have retired long ago. It is really sad when students know more about architecture than he does. this person was dead on so I copied it -->" George never gives positive input ever, it is always negative, never with any suggestions or comments on what is worth pursuing. Treat the class like a joke, bring in models made of cereal boxes, it's not worth the effort of actually working. Instead, pursue learning somewhere else." If you are trying to learn then avoid stewart, I learn more out of class than I do in. simply, george is a pathetic excuse for a teacher

Stewart's work load is fair. He won't bust your balls if you miss something but your grade will reflect it. He makes a lot of effort to get to know everyone's project . . . But sign up for crits earlier to mid day with him because around 5 oclock his focus and responces become more general. He does appreciate construction details a lot but theirs more to the class than that - at least with my design lab, we started the quarter out with a lot of abstract readings and discussions. If you work hard from the beginning of the quarter on and really try to improve you'll do well. He's been around Calpoly for a long time and watched a lot of things come and go and i think their's some wisdom to learn from him if your willing to see it.

George does not understand that ECS is pretty much a extraneous class that could easily be combined into design itself. George's assignments consisted of rewriting handouts that he gave you in class on an 11x17. WHAT'S THE POINT? I understood what little info was presented in class. Why should I spend time and money recopying handouts? George grades you on presentation so the class basically turns into a really bad graphic design class. He is a really hard grader, so it is impossible to get anything above a B (or a 8.25 as George would write). Basically, George is a DICK...
