Dr. Maas is a nice guy, but the way he wants you to teach seems unrealistic and boring. Because of his classes I don't think I want to be a teacher anymore.

Absolutely the best teacher I've ever had! He's one of the only Education professors who doesn't teach from some murky educational theory. He's highly knowledgeable and a kind person.

Dr. Maas is extremely nice and friendly. I took this class because I was considering changing my major to become a teacher. This is an excellent class to take if you are considering becoming a teacher, it allows you a chance to teach 2 lesson plans. It helped me to decided that it wasn't for me. It is a pretty easy class to get an A or B in, easy course work, only one test, and not much homework. However it is 3hrs, twice a week which is not fun!

Dr. Maas is by far the best teacher I have had at Poly. He explains the material in ways that you will never forget. He is very caring and wants his whole class to succeed. his method of teaching is amazing. There should be many mnay more Dr. Maas type teachers at this school. I learned more about teaching in this one quarter than I have learned in all my college years combined. I only wish he taught more classes! TAKE DR. MAAS! You will remember him forever!

This class is exciting and fun. This class helps you understand what teaching is all about. The 3 hours go by fast. You get to play a lot of games and learn how to make material fun! Don

This class was an easy A. Dr. Maas knows his stuff and makes the class interesting. He doesn't take role and you don't have to turn in your quizzes on time-very nice. I think 3 hrs twice a week is a little too much for this class though, it doesn't need to be that long.

I think that Maas (not Mass!) is the only prof. that teaches this course now, so ha! You're forced to take him! Good thing, seeing that he's one of the best professors at CP. He's so damn good that he even teaches other professors how to be good instructors. He's so damn good that he gets paid to do lectures around the country. I almost guarentee that he'll be off somewhere one of the weekends in the quarter giving a lecture to 500+ people, telling them exactly what he's teaching you in class. Think of it, you're getting to see a very well known educator up close and personal. He makes tons of jokes in class, which helps keep people awake. I had a sleep issue in class, and well, he would commonly make everyone stand up because "people were getting sleepy," which meant that I looked like I was dozing off. He would also commonly use me as an example in class because I was one of 2 or 3 guys in the class. This was fine. I didn't mind it. Basically, you have to take this class, and Maas is a great guy to take it with. Oh, and his son's going to be a doctor, and he's currently single, but that shouldn't concern you, as you're going to start dating in 6 years...

Dr. Maas is quite possibly the best teacher I have ever had. After taking his class, I found myself analyzing my other professors and all the thing they were doing wrong. I think that every Cal Poly teacher should take some class with Maas since he also teaches teachers how to manage their classroom effectively. Not only did he really get the wheels turning in my head, class was fun! We played games out on the lawn, we did so much cooporative group work that was fun and he has a great sense of humor which makes the 3 hours usually pass by quickly. He wants everyone to succeed in his class so he makes easy for you to get an A.

Dr. Maas is a wonnderful teacher. He reallly knows what he is talking about and trunly practices what he teaches. You will learn so much about being a teacher from Dr. Maas. I would love to take another class from him. If you do the requriements for the class and a little extra work you will receive an 'A'. I would highly recommned Dr. Maas as an instructor... you will love going to class!

Dr. Maas is my favorite professor at Cal Poly. His class is the one class that makes me want to be a teacher and to feel more comfortable at being one. The three hours in his class go by so fast and I sometimes wished they could be longer. He gives you a lot of valuable information and he always is entertaining! This class consists of quizzes that you do at home and turn in at almost every metting(they are a piece of cake), then there is a lesson design, and 3 other small papers to turn in and that is all. Dr. Maas doesn't make you stress out about your grade, if you turn in all the assignments you get a "B" on the spot, so the structure of his class is made so you learn for your own benefit and let me tell you this class is worth every second of the time i spent in there. Take Dr. Maas!

Don Maas is a fantastic Prof. He uses a system of blanket grading so no matter what you do, you'll get a B in the class. Write a couple of bulleted papers and expect an A! Even though the class is three hours, twice a week, it's a seriously helpful course designed for the up and coming teacher.

I loved this class. It was a 8 am class and 3 hours long but I never fell asleep. Dr. Maas kept the class on task and completely involved in his lectures the whole time. He knows the material VERY WELL and does a very good job passing on his knowledge to his students. He has a lot of experience in the field of Education and gives his students 100% everyday. He teaches you a lot of useful information that you will carry with you throughout your career in teaching. If you have a chance, TAKE THIS CLASS!!

Dr. Maas is by far one of the best teachers at Cal Poly. He has actually taught Elementary School, so he actually knows what he is talking about!

Dr. Maas is by far and away the best professor I have ever had! Most of my college classes have been an intellectual exercises. This is the only 'learn by doing' education course I had at Cal Poly. Dr. Maas is a leader in his field, but he has the talent to take his knowledge and present it at a level everyone can understand. He is a credit to the college!

Awesome teacher. He has a funny sense of humor but more importantly he teaches you relevant stuff you can actually use in the classroom. It was a 3 hour class but it did not seem like an eternity. He really breaks the class up well with activities and things of that nature. Some things he teaches seem like DUH, but they are really relevant. And "the look" what else can be said about that, you should get a good laugh out of it. Awesome person and professor.

Dr. Maas is a really nice guy. He takes pride in never running out of information. He will make you stand up and sit down over and over again during your lecture. It keeps you awake, but can be a little annoying. He reviews the material you need to know repeatedly. Just pay attention and you will do fine. He even gives you the exact copy of the final - just memorize it. When you have to teach two lessons, don't stress it. It actually goes really well if you prepare for the lessons. I got nervous for the first one and it went just fine.

Dr. Maas was just about the best professor I've ever had for a class. He practices what he preaches, never singling out a student for belittlement but gauging the confusion, energy, or impatience of students and acting on it. If you don't want to participate, don't take this class!

This is likely the most useful education course I have taken or WILL take (other than student teaching itself) throughout my entire credential program. I'm a single-subject student that took this class because I'm looking to add a multiple subject credential (although technically it is not required for that purpose), and also because I thought I could learn something about how to teach middle-schoolers from a K-8 teaching and management class (imagine that!). But really, the ideas that Don teaches in this class are just as useful with middle- and high-schoolers as they are with kindergartners. Don teaches very practical skills and techniques that, although they seem fairly obvious when you experience them, might not appear anywhere else in your credential program. Plus, he keeps you active in such a way that a three-hour class period doesn't seem so bad. It's a shame that there is no equivalent to this course for single-subject students, because middle and high school teachers could certainly benefit from it. The course mechanics are pretty straight forward--turn everything in and you get at least a B; do a couple extra assignments and you get an A. You teach three lessons during the quarter, only one of which receives a grade (and that for the lesson plan rather than the actual teaching), so they're not too stressful as long as you prepare yourself. As for Don himself, not only is he really knowledgeable about teaching and education, but he's a really great person as well. He might seem to toot his own horn a little bit sometimes, but I think he means it in a teachers-tell-me-this-stuff-really-works sort of way rather than a look-at-me-I'm-awesome sort of way. Besides, being a great teacher teaching a class about how to teach, he deserves some leeway to be proud of himself. :P I'd really recommend that ANYONE looking to become a teacher, not just those in the elementary program, take this class if they can fit it somewhere in their schedule. Did you catch that?

Amazing professor. Fun class. Interesting and useful material. This class mill definitely add a little fun to your quarter. Dr. Maas is always extremely organized and well-prepared and he makes his lectures really interesting. The lectures WILL last the full three hours, but you will always be getting up to move around and play games so it really isn't too bad. Have fun!
