It was a little difficult to stay awake in her class- even at 9 am. I have no doubt that she knows and understands the material she is teaching, yet she has a minor problem with presenting it well and exciting. By the end of the class, you will know everything about her family and maybe even ask: "But what did I learn about GrC?"

8am classes are bad enough-but this class made it unbearable. the people who excelled in the class were the people who already knew everything about it before going into the class-often times correcting the teacher. i didn't learn anything in that class. but it is required, and she's the only teacher-so good luck.

The projects Penny assigned made the class really interesting.. except for one where we had to use Postscript. People in the upper division GrC classes were telling me that you never have to use Postscript again and that it's pretty irrelevant. But anyways, in the beginning of the quarter she went really fast in lab but after i talked to her she slowed things down a little more. She's very willing to help you out if you utilize her office hours. However, she didn't give us any study questions or a solid outline of what to study for the midterm and final.. so it helps to form a study group. Also, make sure you attend every lecture because she does pop quizzes. Overall, Penny's very down to earth & willing to help you out.

she's really boring, and laughs at all her owns jokes while everybody sits and stares at her. but i give her credit for trying to make it interesting, i think the main problem was that the information was just too boring to really handle at 9am. make sure to take notes on what she says, because a lot of those random facts are on the quizzes. do your reading too.

Penny's a good professor. As noted by some others, a little disorganized (i.e., sometimes she needs to search for the right PowerPoint presentation or file, etc.), but not in any way that would seriously affect or hinder the class. She's a consultant and an industry expert, although some of her weaknesses lie in in-depth up-to-date knowledge about computers. For example, one lecture, she taught terms about memory but didn't really know what the terms meant herself, and one student had to correct her on the difference between monitors and TVs. In essence, because she didn't understand some of these concepts, sometimes the class felt like it was just time to learn facts so we could regurgitate them, without having to know what they actually meant. Tying all these facts into a common thread and goal of the class would help tremendously. Nevertheless, Penny is a good professor, and aside from that one weakness, all other aspects of the class were great. Anyone that knows anything about computers should have no problem in this class and be able to enjoy the new material presented. Some without much computer background struggled, so if you're one of those types, beware. However, Penny is very open and will answer any questions and helped these students understand, both in class and in her office hours. I give her a B+.

I wrote the comment two comments below, where at the end I gave her a B+. I would change that to an A-. Although she may not know everything about computers, that's not important -- this is the print industry, not the computer industry. Penny's really cool, and it's great how she prints out all her PowerPoint slides. Like I said, she knows everything about print. Take her.

Penny is a good professor, with only a few complaints. Her presentations are boring but thankfully they are only one hour long. I would recommend going to class because her definitions are worded specifically and you may not know how she describes something. You can do very well in this class if you go and listen to the lectures.

Penny is extremely nice and polite. She is also very understanding if you go out of your way to talk to her. She can help out a lot. That put aside, her lectures are boring and monotonous. I feel like the content was all over the place. I'm not quite sure if that's because the department is forcing to put all these subjects on her back for the class but it's not very smooth. Either way, she's not all that bad. It's an easy grade if you go to class and take notes. I still don't feel like I got a lot of this class.

Penny Rocks. She is the most kindest, tolerating, and considerate professor I have had yet. She cares about all her students. I have heard nothing but good comments from those who took her Consumer Packaging course. That's all I have to say.

Penny is so nice and has cute stories about her kids that she tells in class, but i really don't think she explains things very clearly. I was learning the same material in 324 that i was in 203 and my 324 professor explained things so much more clearly. But you gotta take osmond for some of the 201-203 series, so just memorize and write down everything she writes on the board. She tries to make class interesting, and she is knowledgeable in some areas.

I know it's pretty much ridiculous to get a C in the 200 series, but I did. Here's why: Penny gave her only midterm after she had not been there for the week prior and was not there the day of. So, it was seven weeks of notes with no review. I think the class average was around the low D's. Of course she had to curve the grades, but her reaction to the scores was completely frustrating. She pretty much didn't understand that her absence, the lack of review, and not being able to get answers to our questions before test resulted in such poor scores. She did offer extra credit: 5 pts added to your midterm score if you wrote a 5 page paper on digital printing. Yeah, right! By the way, the Final was easy. I didn't even study b/c I was so fed up and I got a B!

Penny is a good proffessor and i would recommend taking her. but what really bugs me is the wasting of time: in both 201 and 203 she often shows up a couple of minutes late and then goes off on a tangent. not that i mind when teachers go off, esp. if it has to do about the subject matter and builds a realationship with the prof. but doing it for like 10 minutes after being 5 minutes late we only get 35 mins of our lecture.(both extremes) she won't hold you for stuff in the book, just what we go over in class. Also as us GRC majors have to get used to stuff comes up, e.g. GraphExpo where the teacher leaves for a week. no big deal, they need to keep current with the industry. but then we had a guest speaker, who was good but not about the subject matter. then she had to take a personal day, now we have missed 2 weeks of a 9-10 week quarter...hmmm. though the free time was well spent. In conclusion, take penny you won't regret it!

Penny's awesome. This is my third class with her, and it's definitely easy to do well in her class if you just study her powerpoints. All her tests are off her powerpoints and random details she mentions in class, which she will usually tell you is important. There's a lot of "pop quizzes," which are either at the end or beginning of class, and you can usually tell when she's going to have them when she starts glancing at the clock. This was an hour long class, and it definitely passed by really fast, because a lot of the material has been taught in 201 already. If you miss class, just ask her for the powerpoints from those dates, and she will be happy to give them to you.

Many people go on and on about how easy this class is. Well, that isn't all that true. The information is not complex or overly difficult, but Penny presents it in a rather boring fashion. All she does is read her powerpoint. I left the class wondering if I had actually learned ANYTHING about packaging. The lab was more work than should be expected of a 3 unit class and the tests were often confusing. I would leave the class feeling confident that I had answered most of the questions correctly, only to find that I barely got a B-.

Penny is a great teacher. Although the packaging class wasn't quite what i expected it to be, she presented it in a great way that was easy to understand. Like always, she had her powerpoint presentation and she brought sodas for all of us one day when demonstrating the different types of cans. In lab, she really helped us if we had difficulty finding any information. This class was fun, especially when we had to make our own product.

OUt of all of Penny's classes, I enjoyed this one the most. The material was pretty straight forward. Everything was presented in powerpoint slides and she made sure to liven up the class every now and then by starting off lecture with a commercial or Name That Tune. The group project is pretty stressful so make sure to stay on top of it.

This was probably one of the funnest GrC classes I've had to take so far. You dont really have to go to class because the information is so simple, but you might want to go or else you'll miss the six quizzes she'll randomly give. Most of the lecture time is spent watching other peoples commercial or just talking about common knowlege. I use to think Penny was really weird, but after having her for 4 different classes, I've come to realize that shes weirdly funny!

Penny understands that people take this classs for fun, you get to do some awesome projects like print a poster, a single color t-shirt, a 2 color t-shirt, a coffee cup, and a pen/wallnut/golf-ball. You work in groups of 2 so take the class with a friend. No book required, just go over the slides that penny shows in class and you'll be fine. This class has a lot of down time while you wait for an opening on the press or a computer but its a lot of fun. Dont take the class if you arent a GRC major because you'll just get lost. To make a long story short this is the best elective class you can take, you walk away with an A or B and a couple t-shirts and other goodies. oh yah, you learn a lot also.

Penny is a great professor. GrC 377 with her is a blast. She teaches the subject very clearly. The midterm and final were not difficult at all, mainly memorization and an understanding of graphic communication concepts. If you have to take 377, sign up with Osmond.
