This teacher cannot speak English well, and she's very boring. However, her tests aren't that hard. So you can get a B like me and not know squat about EE.

Homework is fair and tests are open note, but she can't teach worth a f**k. She can hardly speak English at all, so trying to get her to understand your question is a problem. If you've already taken and did well in Phys 133 don't bother coming to the first two weeks of class. It's just rehash. Soooo boring and not organized. Avoid her if possible.

This instructor (Mei Yu) is very very nice. Take her if you can. Very generous.

There are some definite reasons for taking Professor Yu as well as some very good reasons for AVOIDING her as a professor. Pros: she is perhaps the move lenient grader and with partial credit on exams I have ever had here at CP. Here is an example: if there are 2 ways to do a problem and you choose the wrong way, but the entire process is right, you

Professor Yu is great! It is true that her English might not be the best, but her lectures are very organized! I didn't have to read the book at all, and I was able to do all the homework and understood perfectly well everything she lectured. I think the communication might be a barrier because sometimes she didn't understand the question that was asked, but she's very friendly, patient, understanding, and most importantly, a very well organized structured teacher. Definitely take her!

I really fail to understand how a teacher who can hardly speak English (and when I say hardly I'm being generous!) can be an instructor at this university. I personally think, without being irrespectful toward professor Yu, who happens to be a very nice lady, but a poor communicator, that the EE department needs to do a much better job at selecting its instructors. The fact that some teachers who can't even speak the language efficiently are being employed by some of our colleges at CalPoly not only compromises the serousness of this institution but the quality of education students receive.

First of all, the classical controls lab is awful. We spend more than 1 lab period just trying to find a lab bench with working equipment. Lab is about 3 weeks ahead of lecture , so you never have any idea what you are doing. Was a very bad experience overall. Mei Yu is a very nice lady though, she even told me to go home from lab once because she thought I was going to die early from heart failure.

Extremely helpful professor who, if she had a better command of english, would easily have a 4.00. Positives: Cares a lot about individual students, helpful, patient, modifies certain labs to make them more approachable. (The lab manual isn't always so great.) Negatives: Probably has the hardest lab final, very hard to understand linguistically (although I give her credit, she never gives up when she's trying to get an idea across to you, and usually she helps you understand somehow.) She's a somewhat picky grader.

Professor Yu really sounded as if she did not care what was going on in the lab. Her one saving grace was that she would write all the procedures on the board, and then write all the results that we were supposed to get on the board, so we were able to check our results. Whenever questions arise, and we get her to come over to our bench, my partner and I ended up being more confused that we started out with.

First off, I'm biased because I hate all EE labs thusfar. I find them unoriginal and just boring. Kudos to anyone who actually walks away from an EE lab and applies it to lecture.
Anyways this teacher speaks very quiet and has a sharp accent. Me and my partner had a tough time figuring out what the hell to do, but when we got the wheels rolling we blew by it real fast. However she is quick to help, very pleasant, and knows her stuff. Luckily she writes alot of stuff down on the board so the lab went smoother.
I would take someone else if you can, but this is only a one unit class so if she fits in your schedule well, take her. I had class MWF, and this lab was 3-6 on Tuesday, so I chose her to get lab out of the way early and because I'm more alert later in the day.

Dr. Yu is a really great lab instructor. She will give you as much help as you need so that you truly understand what you are doing. If you make a mistake, she helps to understand why you made it She also has a really good sense of humor too, which helps a lot for a 3 hour lab. Take her for a good lab experience.

I was very dissapointed to see that Professor Yu has not recieved the credit she deserves on Polyratings. She is the best lab instructor I have had at Poly. She is organized, patient, and truely cares about helping you learn. I also had her for EE 334. She might not have the best lectute voice, but her ability to organize information and her willingness to help learn will help you get the grade you want.

Yes, her accent is hard to understand, but luckily this isn't too much of a problem for labs. She's VERY nice and helpful if you ran into problems. She was also VERY generous with grading of lab reports, as long as you complete all of it. The labs were sometimes difficult, but she would give you all the necessary equations at the beginning of lab (assuming you didn't ace the prelabs, which were also difficult), and would sometimes shorten the labs so you wouldn't have to complete it all. The lab final was impossible, but luckily it's only like 15% of your final lab grade. I'd take her for lab again anytime. It was the only A I got all quarter!

Really helpful in lab, explains what you are going to do at and goes on to give you the values you need to complete the lab. Reports are pretty much out of the book. Prelabs and the last project may take some time so visit office hours if you have any problems. Exactly how a ONE UNIT LAB should be, unlike some profs who make labs into a couple hours each week. Take this prof for lab unless you want to learn beyond the standard lab book and more in-depth, which is fine if you want to put in the effort.

At the beginning of every lab period, Yu will post the steps to completing the lab on the white board and will point out the trouble areas of the lab. She'll write what data to collect so you won't be lost during the lab. Her English is hard to listen to though and she can't really help you if you have a problem with your circuit. She's probably an easier grader on the lab reports than most professors though, so I'd recommend taking her.

This teacher can't speak english worth shit. I was better off not coming to class, and reading the examples in the book. One thing I couldn't quite understand was why the homework solutions were posted online a week before the homework was due (yes, you read that correctly.) The only redeeming quality is that the tests are almost directly from the homework, and are easy as your little sister.

Professor Yu is okay for a professor depending on what you look for in a professor. If you want an easy B, take her (75%-89% a B). However, if you want to understand the material, you need to look else where since you would find yourself not knowing whats going on and spend time reading what you are learning (if you choose to care about the subject). Also, if she happens to teach multiple sections, try to ask her if you can take MTs in the early sections. Her early sections test were easier than the later sections exams. I recommend going to class because some times she\'ll hint whats going to be on the exams and also try to study her examples since it helps a lot when preparing for her MT.
