I don't know why Wolf has recieved some low ratings but he is an awesome teacher. I failed Math 141 once before so I needed a good teacher...I lucked out! Wolf explains everything so well. For the math retards out there like me he will make you understand. He is extreamly fair with quiz and test material and grades. Awesome teacher! Take him!

Get to know Bob, go to his office hours and ask questions. He allows you to use a crib sheet on the final- which helped me. He lets you vote if you want to take 5 quizes or 6 and drop one. Vote to drop one.. chances are one will be failed. he collects homework.. but in theory you dont need to turn it in to pass the class.. but most of the quizes are based off info that was presented in the homework. He is willing to answer any questions on the homework.. even if its due in a couple of minutes. I do reccomend Bob, he is a funny fellow.

man, prof wolf knows his stuff pretty well and explains it clearly, but there are a couple things i didnt like. Hes really unapproachable and he is kinda condescending and also he never finishes practice and example problems, he starts them but never finishes and i think the class would benefit more if he did. Go to class and its not hard

Professor Wolf is a good teacher. Make sure you use his office hours and don't be intimidated like I was. There is homework due every other week and its not too hard. If you have questions about the homework, go to his office hours, don't ask them in class because sometimes he makes people feel stupid. The final is really hard, but he lets you use a cheat sheet. Make sure you write the hardest homework problems on your cheat sheet, because those are going to be the questions on the final. He is a pretty hard grader, so make sure your test are worked to perfection because he'll mark you off for every little thing you get wrong. His explaining of the material is nice and clear, and easy to understand.

I thought Wolf was a fair professor, he's definately willing to help. He wants you to call him at home and he would come to your study groups if you wanted. I'd say like most math classes do your homework, and if you understand it your alright, if you don't, bug the teacher until you do.

Well I had him last year as a freshman, and from what i could see, "he sucked". Yes, I mean it literally, the man seems to work off algorithms and doesn't covey material well. After careful deliberation with comparing him to my high school teacher, he doesn't come close... I highly recommend choosing a different teacher for required math courses.

Professor Wolf was horrible at explaining material to students. Math 142 is one of the basic calculus classes and if you don't establish a good foundation in integrations, life gets tough when you get to diff eqs. He never explained how to integrate. He would put half of an example problem on the board and then the answer would appear with the wave of a magic wand. When you asked him questions, he would make you feel stupid and inadequate. I was incredibly intimidated of him, especially since he is meaner to females than males. I am now a sophomore, in Math 242, and I am doing well. I had a rough time in the beginning of 242 though because I didn't have a good basic ground from 142 - because Wolf doesn't teach. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!

Okay...yes I got a D...but this guy sucks. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!He can not teach, he has no sympathy for people going through hard times. He assigns homework out the butt and it is only worth 5% of your grade. His quizes are nothing like the material covered in class, and his final is obscene. Avoid him at all costs...you will be much happier for it.

This guy is cool. He made things very understandable and had good examples. He seemed to want you to do well. And he's funny, and he brings in his "toys". Wolf is a smart guy and definitely has an interest in math but he isn't the greatest teacher. The first seven weeks of class I thought he was a great professor because I already knew the stuff from high school, but when we got into new stuff it was a different story. He went really quickly over the material without the greatest explanations. Also, beware when asking questions as he will just keep asking you what you tried and when he finds something you didn't try he will just tell you to try that. The grading system was fair as we had six quizzes that were from homework and a final that was a basic overview of the course.

Mr. Wolf is okay...okay if you like taking a test EVERY week and turning in one or two homework assignments a week for 5% of your grade. You heard me, you spend, easily, 2-3 hours on an assignment and it's only worth 5% of your grade. On top of that, he has a grader that takes off massive points for getting something wrong. It wasn't even worth doing some of the problems because I ended up not getting any points on them at all. On top of that, he writes down everything he says on the board and you copy EVERY word because you think you'll need it, but you don't. I worked my butt off in hius class...for a B and I know a lot of other people who weren't so fortunate. He's okay, but there are better, I'm sure.

Mr. Wolf is the most friendly and outgoing professor but as far as his ability to teach the material and convey the concepts to the students I would say he is definately above average. Our class had 6 quizes, and he dropped the lowest one. This was worth 60% of the grade. Homework is 5% and is graded pretty tough but it is good that you do it because he assigns questions that you need to know. The final was worth 35%, and wasn't too hard. He also had a 10% curve, which gave me an A-. All of his exams were directly from class and homework. He also doesn't make you remember a nuch of formulas like a lot of other teachers do. Go to class, do some of the homework, and don't be imtimidated by all of his smart ass remarks and you will be fine. I would recommend taking Wolf if you care more about learning than getting a good grade.

This professor was better than I expected. He presented the material well and I understood them clearly. In the beginning of the quarter he gives his class the option of taking quizzes or midterms. He drops the lowest score on a quiz, but the problem is if you mess up more than once that's your whole grade. He doesn't have a lot of homework and it counts for only five percent of the grade. His final is just like his quizzes so there should be no surprises there. Overall I learned a lot from that class.

Professor Bob, as he prefers to be called, knows his material well, but as far as sharing this wealth of knowledge, he isn't great. If your looking for an easy yet intiutive quarter of math, take Dr Wolf! Dr Wolf has a profound understanding of the book and is always pointing out its fallicies and fills in gaps where the book is either confusing or doenst do a good job explaining the material. All examples done in class are extremely relevant, ie, if u know how to do the examples in class, u can easily get an A. Homework was tough to get a perfect score on, but it counts for little of your grade, and the 6 quizzes he gives you thoroughout the quarter instead of midterms are easy! Wolf teaches concepts, so you understand the idea of whats going on, but he STRESSES teaching HOW TO DO THE PROBLEMS. Pay attention in lecture, do the homework, and an A is easily reachable.

Overall, I'd say that Bob's a great teacher. He explained the material so clearly that I never had to read the book and I only had to go to office hours once. The quizzes were straight-forward and tested general concepts, and the final wasn't too bad since you could use a whole page front-and-back of anything: formulas, example problems, whatever. My only complaint is that he can be rather anal when grading tests, but the curve makes up for it. Take Bob if you can.

Bob, as he likes to be called, is an excellent teacher. His grading system is very fair. He presents the material in a way that anyone can understand. Some people think he isn't the friendliest guy, but I have no idea why. For me, he was very easy to talk to, and he often made jokes during class. The first day of class, he told us that we just enrolled in the first Russian speaking math class ever and started speaking in Russian. It was of course a joke. Don't get me wrong he takes his job very seriously. He just knows when it is time to joke. I would recommednt him to anyone. Bob, as he likes to be called definitely knows his stuff. He does a pretty good job of presenting the material in lecture and is always asking the class if there are any questions. The only problem is unless you already know the answer to your own question, you better not ask it! Whenever a question would be asked, he would regularly ask, "Well why would you want to do something like that????" and give you this look like you are some kind of idiot. He gives a homework assignment about once a week that doesn't count for much of your grade, but it does help you understand what is going to be on the quizzes which make up a descent chunck of your grade. Be sure to write down all the examples on the board because they will really help with the homework and you often find them on the quizzes. His final was pretty reasonable and made up about a third of the grade. Overall, was a pretty good class, just make sure you're on your toes!!!!

Bob was really an interesting guy. Considering most math classes tend to be boring he really was able to liven it up. He as that subtle sort of humor that makes the class a little more interesting. The thing that impressed me the most was his ability to teach the material in a very straightforward way. He really tries to make you understand the concepts. Instead of writing out proofs using formulas, he will use the definitions and graphs. You can really tell that he enjoys the material and he's always perky and excited. As far as grades there is no mid-term, just a bunch of quizs every other week. None of them are particularly hard and they're timed about right. I didn't think any of the tests were particularly hard. He's a fair grader and writes good simple tests. Overall I'd highly recommend Bob to anyone.

Bob was not a good teacher. Yes, he knows his stuff, but he can't convey that information to the students. I did good in the class just because I know calculus. If I hadn't I would've been totally lost. He rambles alot and makes almost no sense in lecture. Also, if you ask a question, most of the time he'll just put you down and tell you to try something else, without ever actually addressing your problem. If you ask for clarification on something, he'll usually just repeat it the same way but with different wording. One thing that was good was his grading scale. Huge curve, and no midterms, just 6 quizzes with the lowest score dropped. His quizzes are difficult though, and his final is very hard. Over all I would recommend finding a different teacher.

Wolf is a great teacher, he explains everything extremely well. If you ask a question and expect him to do the entire problem for you, you are wrong, he will ask you how far you got, where you got stuck, etc. Ask him when you have tried everything, and really actually tried, not just looked at a problem and given up. He gives 6 quizzes, 1 of which is dropped, and then the final. I had an A going into the final because I did really well on the quizzes, but then I bombed the final(happens to me in a lot of classes), but he took that into consideration and gave me a B+. He also has awesome hair.

Professor Wolf was an alright teacher, and I do not think that he had all of the blame for my F in that class. However, his grading policies were absurd. One little error in a problem, and half of the pts for that problem would be taken off. Still, he is very accessible for office hours, so all in all, he's alright.

Dr. Wolf (or Bob as he prefers to be called) is one of the better teachers I have encountered at Cal Poly so far. When he presents new material, he works through several example problems step by step, from beginning to end. If you show up the extra ten minutes before class starts, he'll take any questions from the homework and work through the entire problem. His tests are fair and his grading very generous. His curves are definitely a plus! The only problem he has is with his somewhat large ego. He believes that he is the smartest man on the planet, and sometimes he cannot understand why students are unclear on particular subjects. However, if you ask him, he will work through the problems and explain them pretty thoroughly. Overall, Bob is a pretty good teacher, and I'd definitely recommend his class.

The class is pretty difficult but Wolf helps you stay on top of things. I didn't really fall asleep in his class as this man is really intimidating. He really is a good guy but he'll get angry if you ask a question about a problem you don't understand and make you look like a fool. Very fair quizzes and tests and also lets you use a notesheet on the final exam which helped me somewhat. Overall, he's a pretty good teacher and i would take him again, just keep quiet and turn your homework in on time.

Dr. Wolf is a very very impressive professor and person. He presents the material very clearly, knowing exactly what points are harder than others to grasp and gives the students plenty, and I mean plenty of opportunities to ask questions. He allows you to call him at home! He also seems like an interesting person in my opinion and he is rarely sitting still, usually moving around the front of the room and getting chalk all over himself. Our class got relatively shitty quiz averages but he gave us a generous curve and did his best to orient the next quiz so that we know the material better. He is a great teacher, a very intelligent person, and I highly recommend him for Calc 143.

The material in this course was very hard to start out with, and Bob did not make it any easier. In the class there were 6 quizes and then the final, so not having a midterm was good. His homework load was good, but it didn't reflect what would be on the quizes. His quizes were HARD. He would always say they were going to be easy, but what he thinks is easy is probably hard for you. He is very smart but thinks everything is so OBVIOUS it is very hard to learn from him. The average for my class was in the low 30s out of 50 for almost every quiz. If you are a genius at math, Wolf is good for you, but if you want someone to teach and help you learn, choose someone else.

He doesn't do any of the grading himself, he has an anoynomous grader. so, if you have a fear of asking for help from the person who is judging you, it is gone. he feels the teachers task is to teach the material and get the students to understand. the judging of their performances he leaves to another, even having someone else make up the tests. it makes for a more interactive learning environment.

I will try to be as constructive as possible in this evaluation. I had Wolf for Diff Eqtn's, which he had not taught for a very long time... it definitely showed. Wolf would never really go over any of the homework problems. If we had a question, he would say, "well did you try this.. ??" Then he'd tell us to try "that" and see if that worked. So basically instead of showing us how to work a problem, he would verbally explain how we should try to solve the problem. I feel that most students need to visually see how a problem is done, or at least set up, when it comes to Math. Wolf was also very confusing, which i think may have been because he hadn't taught diff eqtn's in a long time. I went to Dr. Wolf's office hours a few times, he treated me like a child and he spoke to me as if i were dumb. I cant speak for any other math classes that Dr. Wolf may teach, but i would highly recommend taking any other professor, besides him, for Diff. Eqtn's. I dont feel like i learned much, even though i did ok in the class. Wolf was also sometimes rude when someone would ask a question, it was almost as if he was annoyed that we actually had questions about math!

I thought that Wolf was a good teacher. I liked how HW was collected weekly, not daily. He gave about 8 quizes over the quarter with no midterms. His tests are straight forward and he is a fair grader. He doesn't care to prove every thing but is willing to just show us the result. He is a good leacutrer which is why I never had to read the chapter. If you keep up on the HW then you should be fine for his tests and quizes.

This Teacher was very good. He did a wonderful job explaining and clairifying material in the book. I took 242 before, and taking it with Prof Wolf made the class way easier... I never even had to look in the book, because he made everything extremely easy to understand. His homework is assigned 1-2 times per week, and is only a small portion of the grade. Quizes make up a large portion of the grade, but it's the same stuff he lectures on and gives as homework. His grading is also very fair. I never went to office hours, so I can't comment on whether he is helpful.

The homework for this class was usually given once a week and due the following week, but it did you little or no good to begin early as he would finish lecturing the day before it was due and often moved the due date back because he hadn't finished lecturing. He graded the hardest homework problems on overly long assignments and then curved the homework grade 15% since the average was usually in the mid 50% range. The midterms were also curved 15%. The midterms were much too long and rarely anyone finished before he was telling us to hand them in. There were three midterms (last one on Thurs of dead week) and a one hour final that you had a couple of questions that you could do this one or that one on. The midterms seemed to be fair in the difficulty of the questions, just too long. The only test question complaint I had was that he put the Nim game as a question on the first test. If you couldn't figure out the game, there went 12 points. I guess that's okay since he curved so much though. His lectures were either extremely boring or just plain confusing. He would read the text to us (which he wrote) and write definitions down. If you didn't understand the example in the text, he had no other examples to give. He refered to the author as another person which seemed kind of weird. He also gives many "hints" that make perfect sense after you figure the problem out (without using the hint at all) but make no sense before hand. If you go to his office and he isn't too busy (it seemed he either had a line out the door or had something else to do while I was there), he gives you one or two of these "hints". They don't help very much. He also grades very harshly on problems in which your steps are correct, but your style is different from his own. I once had recieved half credit on a problem and so I assumed that I did something terribly wrong. In fact I had done the problem completely correctly, he just didn't like my style. I would not reccomend this teacher to anyone and will never take him again if I can possibly help it. Unless you have some friends who can teach you outside of class, or you are really good at learning on your own, pick someone else. He also seems to have a very fragile ego and will take it personally if you don't do well in the class or he gets a bad evaluation. He will actually blanket email old classes complaining about bad evaluations.

This teacher is just plain not good. I was one of the few in the class who actually understood the material and this is mostly because i had some prior background in proofs. He is often confusing in his lectures and is quick to make you feel stupid when asking questions. He will explaing concepts straight from the book(which he wrote), and can not seem to find any other examples besides those to help the class figure out what he is talking about. He helps you by providing vague clues to the answers and when basically no one gets the answer to the question, he critizes you for it(and rarely did anyone understand the clues he gave us). I would suggest taking this class from someone else if at all possible.
