I LOVED Pauline. She did an excellent job teaching the material and was always able to help us through difficult material. The thing I liked best was that she really tried to help her students out. Before tests she would always hold extra office hours, and some times her office would be occupied then so she'd tell us she'd be outside the cellar if we needed her. She is so nice, the class is wonderful, and the tests are good. Take Pauline's class.

DO THE HOMEWORK!!! you either "pass" or "fail" her homework. if you attempt it all, you pass. I made the mistake of not coming to one class where she talked about the homework. when I did mine and brought it in the next class period it turned out I had not done it all. so I failed that homework. if you fail any homework you get a B for the homework grade. that is why I got a B in the class. so make sure you do the homework.

Pauline was excelent at presenting the material we needed to know, she followed the book and gave us a good understanding of Philosohy. Her tests were directly from practice tests, there is no way not to be prepared. She obviously enjoys the subject and answers any questions you may have.

She did a good job of explaining difficult (useless) concepts. And she even tries to be pretty nice. But if you catch her on a day when she has PMS or whatever it is, don't even bother to ask her a question. She doesn't really return stuff in a hurry (or ever for that matter). She also missed 3 or 4 lectures this quarter, that was kind of nice. Also, make sure you clarify things with her. Although it's going to be like pulling teeth, because she get pretty ornery when you do this, but she tends to give the wrong dates, and mix up the homework assignments.

I only have one word that describes her.... LAZY! This class was a complete and utter waste of time. She is onry and rude, and she doesn't do anything above or beyond what i could learn from just reading the text. I would suggest not even wasting your time going and listening to her babble, if it wasn't for her unorganized announcements of homework i sure wouldn't have gone. It took almost three weeks for her to return midterm and homework, and her big plan of using Blackboard.com fell through in just a few weeks. I wouldn't recommend her to anyone, she is not interested in helping students, and if youtry to get help she will jut give you this surly response. this class is CRAP!

Excellent Professor. All the lectures were clear and very interesting. Two exams and one final, and the final is not cumulative.

Okay, maybe I objected to this class because I took a 100 phil. class as a graduating senior in engineering. But it was just about unbearable. Pauline offers nothing that the book did not, and just rephrased the already well written text. She gives homework as pass/fail, and doesn't even look at it. Worst of all, she missed over two weeks of lectures, for unscheduled, unannounced, and often unposted absences. It was nice to not have class, but for it to not be announced means we just waited around for a half hour, with no explanation when she did return. this class is mind-freezing, unsurpassedly boring. Pauline really caters it to the fresh out of high school, by making us work in groups that she chooses, different every time, getting angry about homework not stapled, and making us sit still until she excuses us. If you want an easy A, this is your class. but beware: you may become comatose, alive only from the quiet frustrated fury deep in your soul.

The quarter was tough because class was cancelled a lot due to the fact that she had family "emergencies", which was fine. She did adjust the material accordingly and the tests were fair. She definetly knows what she is talking about. Tests were kind of nerve wracking, but not impossible. Didn't do well on the first one cause I didn't know what to expect but after that they were fine. All in all a good teacher.

If I had to describe this class in one word, it would be mediocre. It was not great and it was not horrible. I liked the book very much, though. If the book wasn't so good, the class would have been much worse. I especially like how the book roasted political extremists, left and right, especially Rush. The section on pseudoreasoning was very useful. I only wish that they taught that in high school so that more people would understand it. Some of the later material isn't very interesting.

Excellent professor. Clear and straightforward lecture style. Willing to discuss unclear philisophical concepts outside of class.

Pauline is an awesome teacher. Also if you have a choice take 231 instead of 230. It is a lot easier to understand. If you have to read Plato's Republic, buy the cliff notes. If you read the book then the cliff notes they will definently clarify EVERYTHING. Also she follows the cliff notes exactly so that when she has discussions and asks questions, you will know all the answers. If you are a good essay writer and study your notes then you should do well in this class. I heard horror stories about this class but she made it nice to be in. She is also very helpful and easy to contact and talk to.
