This is a lame site. The comments are statistically insignificant. Most comments lack basic grammar and spelling skills.

This teacher cannot teach. His lecture is garbage, constantly lectures about stuff that doesn't help with his grading of his speeches. He teaches us to be exciting and dynamic in class but all he does is give boring and lame lectures. His grading is also outrageously unfair and demand a lot. He may no the material like a book but his way of deliver is horrible. I won't recommend taking his class. Unless you like speech class a lot you might have a chance in getting a decent grade. You been warned!

ABOVE ALL, if you're good at public speaking, YOU WILL DO WELL. Otherwise, you may need to put lots of time and effort to do well in the class. The class consisted of approx. 5 speeches, but no tests and no mid-terms and such. I don't even believe we even have a quiz. Nonetheless, I have to say that I enjoyed it becuase I, myself, was very fond of talkin' in public, compare other people. Speeches include: introducing a classmate, interview, informative, persuasive and a debate speech. Above all, if you're good at public speaking, congrats!

Winebrenner obviously knows what he is talking about- not that he takes any of it to heart as he tends to ramble on about the same points over and over again. The class is not challenging if you are comfortable speaking in front of a small audience, and you could probably pass the multiple choice final without having gone to a single class. Other than his mind-numbing lectures, the only real issue with having him is that he tends to be sexist in his grading policies. While I did very well in his class with minimal preparation of my speeches, some of my male classmates who delivered superior speeches to mine received lower grades and harsher analyses. This is not a difficult class, but if you are hoping to be graded fairly, avoid this teacher.

Winebrenner is good at saying what needs to be said, but not at getting you interested in it. He spends a goodly amount of your grade sheet telling you to be dynamic and to sound like you care, but as he tells you he is much like a big bottle of Ny-Quil just standing there talking at you. Being in attendance for his lectures is honestly painful. It is easy enough though, and if you don't absolutely blow at speeching and you go to class, you'll pass it.

Winebrenner was a bad teacher. His workload is ok, he gives you decent time to prepare for each speech, but he is a bad teacher. His voice is monotonus, which makes his already boring lectures seem even longer, plus he doesn't cover his material in a timely fashon. I found myself listening to two and a half weeks of him going over ten short "keys" to speech. His evaluations, however harsh, did help a little. But the class might have been a little easier had he actually given us guidance on how to give an effective speech. And on top of all of that, he would (on a regular basis) make very inappropriate jokes that weren't even funny. Only take this teacher if 1) You like listening to boring lectures. or 2) You are a girl. (I noticed that all of the girls in the class, even the ones who gave obviously sub-par speeches, all recieved at least a B in the class.)

A real jerk, very pompous and arrogant. Material is totally different from what any other Critical Thinking class, and is 10 times harder. Stay away at all costs unless you enjoy torture.

I really didn't have a problem with this guy personally. He really tried to convey the material clearly, but frankly he just confused the crap out of me. I honestly learned close to as much by myself on my own than in class. Normally I would walk out confused and worried about the tests. The quizzes and tests themselves aren't too bad, but your grade does not seem to reflect your understanding of the material. His lectures are pretty tough to sit through.

Winebrenner is as articulate and eloquent as any i've meet. Winebrenner is a good guy who truly tries to get the material across and answer students questions, and does a good job of it. The only problem with this class was the material was extremely dry and not interesting at all. Take Winebrenner, just not for 126. Overall, he's chill.

I hated the class and hated the way it was taught. I am sure you could meet this A-3 requirement with a better course and/or teacher.

This professor is the worst professor I have ever had. His lectures are so horrible that you need a dictionary to decifer them. He supposed to be a speach teacher..yet somehow this class turned into a philosophy class..IT SUCKED. He doesnt understand students and their needs and makes fun of you when you seek help. I wouldn't recommend this class to anyone who likes their grade point average because it pretty much guaranteed that you will recieve a grade that you didn't deserve. And a warning to all of you who learn by textbook...HE DOESN'T USE ONE. His grading is bias due to his own self-rightous opinion and he so monotone that you wish you were dead. AVIOD THIS PROFESSOR AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!!!

Dr. Winnebrenner was not open to discussion regarding his evaluation of students' speeches. His class is also set up in a way that he lectures for the first four weeks then students give speeches until the end of the quarter. I found this lack of lecture between speeches affected my ability to improve. If I was unsuccessful at giving a 6 minute speech, how could I give an 8 minute speech a week later? Dr. Winnebrenner's lectures are also extremely hard to sit thru-- they are often centered around common knowledge and very dry. He also grades extremely hard.

Lectures are extremely boring, I received no benefit from his lectures whatsovever. Trying to do well in this class is futile, by the end I was just going through the motions because I knew no matter how hard I tried to do well, he would find something to grade me down for. Finally if you take this course, please, do not waste your money buying the textbook, it sat on my floor all quarter, unopened.

Loud, rude, doesn't seem to care. Telling someone they are so stupid they don't deserve to live is not my idea of a good teaching technique.

Winebrenner has his own agenda, and this must be recognized in order to survive his class. Although certain things may help you, they're not good in his mind, so forget them. Additionally, his grading method seems a little vague. Oh, don't be fooled by his "rubric." His actual method for determining a grade on a speech is more like a game of darts. Oh, and if you plan on missing class, miss a lecture day, because those only benefit you if you need to get some reading for another class down, or if you want to day dream for 2 hours (I chose the later). NOT FUN

This professor is NOT an easy grader. I got a B, but I had to fight for it. I didn't come to Cal Poly to work hard on my speech communication, but that's what you're asking for if you take this teacher. He seems to assign random grades. He uses a ruberic that he gives you filled out, but his final grade for the speech doesn't seem to reflect that ruberic at all. The final is a joke, it takes about 20 minutes. Oh, his leacting are horrible. It's all just common sense, and he dwells on one point forever.

Dr. Winebrenner is probably one of the finest instructors we have in the Speech Communication department. He genuinely cares about his students and, unlike many of our professors, is actually capable of answering questions. Do some of his lectures go over the heads of students? Probably, but then again most of the students in this department are idiots. Oh yeah, and lazy too. No, the classes he teaches are not easy, but college isn't easy, and neither is life. So get over it and try to learn something.

Dr. Winebrenner may not be the most fascinating professor, but he has a wealth of knowledge. SCOM 460 has something due at every class, which might take you an hour or two to complete, but you'll learn a lot from the exercise - especially when you get back your senior project reviews. He goes through each paper with a fine-tooth comb and a prolific red pen - if you can't clean up your work enough by the 3rd paper to get an A on it, how did you get into college?

wow, what can be said here? avoid this professor. if you are an scom major, it is UNAVOIDABLE that you take a class or two with him at the end, so just know what you are in for. unfortunately this professor is really into trying to frighten and stress students out. just try to deal with him, and hope for the best.

Are you fucking kidding me? What the fuck does this class have to do with ANYTHING we have leanrt in our classes? NOTHING. His stupid requirements and grading scale is ridiculous. You think this class matters? It doesn't. Who cares if our major is a joke, the last class before senior project is NOT the time to change things. BRING BACK ABRAMS AND DELAURE so we dont have to put up with this pretend hard class. Besides if you have anyone but him you will get an A in senor project from conway duffy fahs or mcdemot. AVOID hes so boring it will make you want to kill your self. Just get thru it, none of this 1 unit class matters!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
