All I can say is read the book, front to back, and pay particular attention to the pictures. On the test I was asked about the nationality of a woman who was in a picture in the book grinding chile peppers.

Dr. Wilvert was an interesting teacher. He wasn't very exciting, but interesting enough to keep you attention during class. He lecturese for almost all of the class time and in between or at the end shows slides of his trips throughout the world. There's no homework, quizes or tests. He gives 3 midterms (no finals) only. Going to his lecture is important because he passes around sign-in sheets and uses them to determine boundary grades. He covers most of the material in his notes but also takes questions from material in the book. Covering the assigned reading takes a LONG time, so start early or you'll end up having to spend 8 straight hours reading, and then study the weekend before a midterm.

DR. Wilvert is a great teacher. He has a passion for his subject, which makes it interesting. He is respectful of his students and is eager to help. That is not to say this course is easy. You have to really study the text and take good notes to do well. Attendance is important. I feel that Dr. Wilvert rewards exceptional effort; if you get a good grade in his class you know you've accomplished something.

He is a ok teacher but his tests are vague. I would not recommend taking a class that is more than an hour a day because it can get boring. He is fair in his grading and easy to talk to.

Wilvert is a good geography teacher. He has been practicaly everywhere in the world and he has tons of slides of every thing from Indonesian rice patty fields, to Mayan temples, to Manhattan sky scrapers. He really knows his stuff. His tests aren't too hard, but they still cover everything. He is really nice, and I really enjoyed going to his class.

This guy is very knowledgable about what he is teaching. He has been all over the world, and will show you sliodes that prove it. Lectures are pretty good, he gets to the point and teaches you just what you need and nothing more. The two hour class is balanced with slides and movies so it's not boring. Tests are reasonable, but include some obscure facts like "Where was the picture on pg. XXX of the woman picking bananas taken?" You will learn a lot in that class if you try, and a lot was review from previous geography experiences anyway.

Wilvert is a very old man that really needs to retire. He is SO slow, and his lectures are REALLY boring. If you take good notes in class, pay attention to the slides and videos, and carefully look at the maps, pictures, and important people in the book, you don't need to actually read. He lectures verbatum from the book. Take his lecture over the book tho. He knows his stuff, but is VERY boring.

The last person to evaluate Dr. Wilvert must have been thinking of some other professor. The Dr. Wilvert I had is interesting, down to earth, and respectful of his students. He's eager to help in his office hours and easy to talk to. The class was challenging; it took alot of studying to get my A. You do in fact have to read the text and know it well, as well as anything he says in class. If you get a chance, take him. He's excellent-one of the best instructors at Cal Poly.

Dr. Wilvert is extremely knowledgable about the material that he is presenting. He lectures for the whole 2 hour class, but usually breaks it up with interesting slides and videos. There is no final, just 3 midterms, which do require a lot of studying in order to do well. Dr. WIlvert is a very nice teacher and is down to earth and easy to talk to.

I liked this professor. Dr Wilvert is a nice guy who teaches with alot of enthusiasm. Hes very aproachable and easy to talk to. His tests are hard, you have to study everything in the book, but he makes this clear, so he is very fair. Id take him again.

Prof. Wilvert is not a very good teacher. I had him at two on TTR so it was tough to go to class which may have been a problem. He isn't very good at keeping you awake. I wouldn't recommend him at all because it is a lot fo unnecessary work to get a decent grade.

I was really bummed out after I got my first test back and got a 76. But Dr. Wilvert really helped me to figure out what I needed to fix and was really open to helping me. He is a great guy and has been EVERYWHERE!! His tests are pretty much lecture but much of his lecture is from the book. That would make sense. However, the thing that got me on the first test was not taking notes on his videos and the slides of all of the neat places he has been. Also, make sure if you aren't going to read the book, which I would not recommend (read as much as you can because he will test you on it), make sure you read the little bios in each chapter and remember maps and graphs. He'll be very specific when it comes to those things. All in all, I think Dr. Wilvert was a great teacher and I hope that I get to take another class from him in the future.

Mr. Wilvert is a good professor. He is a very knowledgeable man. The geography class was interesting, but difficult. I highly recommend reading the chapters despite the lenght of them. The tests sometimes seem outrageous because there are random questions on them; know your maps in the book because those are important, and are a guarentee on all of the exams.

This is one of those classes in which you have to memorize tons of stuff. We had three exams of about 100 M/C questions each. Each test also has a map portion in which he gives about 50-75 places and picks 10 at random you have to know on the test. I usually do bad in these kind of classes but managed to get out with a B. There is a short paper in which you have to plan a trip to another country. The paper is an easy A, just remember to do endnotes and have a bibliography. The lecture is pretty boring, but the slides he shows are neat. You don't really have to go to lecture except that he sometimes takes roll and get mad when people don't. But the information can all be found in the book. Do the online tests at the book's website.

dr wilvert is a very good professor- he is very well traveled which is relevent to the course. He definately knows his stuff- his lectures can get somewhat boring but he does try to mix it up once in a while with slides and videos. altough his tests r mult choice, they r difficult- READ THE BOOK!!!! AND THE CATIONS TO THE PICS- readin the book is critical to succeeding in his class.

SWEET GUY! #1-A bit boring, but do go to class because there are things he talks about that are not in the book that he tests on. Plus, he takes attendence once in awhile. #2-READ THE BOOK, especially the pictures and the graphs. #3-The paper is an easy A, remember endnotes and bibliography. The tests are hard because he sometimes gives you questions about pictures in the book or a place name from a slide that he showed. Go to class, take good notes, and read the book.

Wilvert is such a nice guy, you may be tempted to think that his tests are going to be a cakewalk. Wrong. He gives you some free points on the map and paper, but the tests are no joke. The tests are possible if you study the boxes, remember the slides, and read the book. If not, you are out of luck because the questions are very specific. Even though I've had him for three classes, he still surprises me with some of those test questions. I would say take him if you are not afraid of studying, he is a good teacher.

This was a pretty cool class. Prof. Wilvert teaches a good and very large class where you pretty much sit and listen for 2 hours. Not much else but you find some cool facts out about our big country. The report is simple and entertaining but the tests are no joke. No problems if you are kinda smart- he grades them on the curve. I got a B and didnt put out too much effort. I'd recommend this class if you can pay attention for long periods of time and test well.

Dr. Wilvert is a really cool guy. His class can be a bit slow at times, but nonetheless interesting. If you are interested in learning about the geography of the United States- which is not just about mountains and rivers- take Dr. Wilvert. His tests are kinda hard. My advice is show up and read. He throws in a ton of questions directly from the book that he doesn't cover in class. So be prepared for that. He assigns an essay which is super easy.

As of yet I dont know myn grade is this course. I wanted to be more objectice in my evaluation. I'll probably get a B- I'm hoping for better. The class is lecture, videos and slides. Most everything is pretty interesting because you learn how people use the earths resoures and how they are allocated. The theme is sustainability and you'll be able to define it by the end of the course. My midterm and final are the hardest I've taken in liberal arts. But dont let that discourage you. Wilvert is a knowledgable and kind. He really cares about what he teaches. My best suggestion to do well on the tests is copy your notes on flashcards because the tests are 100 mutiple choice questions on details!!!

Dr. Wilvert is very knowledgeable and has traveled extensively, so his lectures are thorough and usually well-rounded. He is very nice and open to office visits if you are having difficulties with the course material. If I had one concern, it was his schedule of testing. One very challenging midterm and then the final, so make sure you do well on the first test, because it's only one of two given. Also re: tests, sometimes he throws some critical thinking stuff into the multiple choice, so PAY ATTENTION TO THE LECTURES.His tests cover almost everything introduced in the course. Do not think you can skate by without reading or attending class. You will only have yourself to blame. The writing assignment is fairly easy, and he will take roll often to give extra points to those who care enough to show up, which is especially nice if you don't do well on the midterm. All in all, I would recommend him to anyone who wants to actually learn something about geography. He's a good guy, and very fair.

Wilvert is a solid teacher, he is not the most exciting teacher around, but he is very fair, and has been everywhere he talks about in class. He may not seem that helpful, but his classes are usually big so go to his office if you need help and he is more than willing to point you in the right direction.

What a great professor! Dr. Wilvert is well traveled and has some wonderful slides to prove it. Make sure you go to class and do the reading. His tests may seem hard but he does not pull any tricks. Do look at the pictures in the book though, cuz he will ask questions about them. Also, remember he teaches geography, so while you are learning about all those countries and locations keep the geographical importance of the area in mind. PS The quizs and any papers he assigns are an easy way to help out with low test scores.

Dr. Wilvert is one of the best teachers I have taken here at Cal Poly. He is always well prepared and extremely well versed in his field. His famous slide shows are a rare treat for students who are used to mainly lecture style courses. He is a must take for anybody. A+

Dr. Wilvert showed great enthusiasm in his teaching. He adds to the class with his slides and stories of trips he has taken. His tests are challenging but there are not trick questions. His class was a great experience.

His lectures were not that logical, and he seemed to jump from point to point kind of randomly. He was also not too clear when he did present the lecture, which made it difficult to follow. His tests are pretty hard, and very picky--not something I expected at all. He gives you one map quiz (which is easy), you do a paper on a trip to Europe (easy) and you have two midterms. The midterms are where he'll get you. They are multiple choice with a short essay, and he asks anything he can think of from lecture and from the book, sometimes he would ask the for the most random thing from the reading you would not necessarily remember. The essay is the saving grace since he doesn't grade too hard. Overall, a nice man with wonderful slide shows, but not the best teacher I've had, and lots of fairly boring reading.
