This professor was weird. I know that teaching a general education lab isn't the most fun, but this guy was retarded. He never answered any of our questions and would never give us a straight answer as to what we were going to be tested on. He seems like a nice person, but just not very interested in BIO 111.

Walters is not a bad person. He's just a little burnt out on teaching, and you can tell he's really smart, he just has no idea how to convey his ideas to other people anymore. However, his curve is way more than fair. You just have to study his powerpoints and the book very very well. Everything on the tests was there. He does not do any review for the tests, and they are multiple choice. Don't expect the questions to be super easy either. He doesn't want to fail people, so really you have to do quite awful in lab and lecture in order to. If you can self teach, don't bother going to lecture. You can look at the powerpoints and learn it all on your own without having to sit through another boring lecture.

I enjoyed having Dr Walters as lab instructor. He's very knowledgeable and eager to help by answering questions. His quizzes are can be tricky, but is very generous with partial credit if answers are "in the ballpark." He's easy going and approachable. Some thought he was too tough, but they are lazy asses who didn't wanna do any work. I'd take him again.

Dirk Walters was one of the worst teachers I have ever had. My experience with him as a lab professor was horrible, and if you are thinking of taking one of his classes, DON'T! There are aspects of his quizzes and midterms/final that are unfair, and there is no compromise with Walters. He knows his shit, but he cannot relay it to his students. Overall, botany with Walters has been the worst educational experience I have had at poly thus far. Be warned.

This is by far the worst teacher I think I have ever had in college. he has no idea how to present relevant material, and his lectures are so boring you'll be asleep in 5 minutes. He never answers students questions, and treats you like you're an idiot if you dont understand a concept that he, in no way, ever explained clearly in the first place. He definately needs to shower and learn how to talk in an articulate manner. His midterm review had ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with the midterm. If everyone aced his lab final, the average greade in the class was a 65. This dinosaur needs to back into retirement. You would think Poly could afford better teachers, from the 20th century perhaps?

The class is fairly dull, no homework, long labs but no reports, and tests are easy and fair. Pay attention to things that he makes note of, especially in Lab, like taxonomy to know.

Just make sure you get hi for both the lecture and the lab. The course really wasnt that hard and most of the lectures are just superfulous. he teaches entireally through power point and he puts all of his slide online. they can get tedious to look through when studying but thats really all you have to do to prep for his finals. i didnt actually purchase or even look at the required text for this class. just make sure to attend his lab. the lecture can be a little more hit or miss.

perhaps it's a completely different story in lecture, but Dr. Walters does a really good job in lab. After having a grad student for 151 lab, it's great having a prof for lab. Although sometimes his little 10 pt quizzes are sometimes unfair (since he uses slides of, say, a megagametophyte that is 10x's clearer than anything we saw in lab), they do help prepare us for the lab exams (which aren't tough, just tricky). He does a good job.

This teacher was one of the least helpful and most unresponsive professors I have ever had. He let some guy in class hold his hand up to ask a question for half an hour and never even acknlowdeged him! Everyone failed the tests and we had to get a mediator to come in and make sure that he was grading us somewhat fairly. I would not recommend this him to anyone and avoid him at any cost!!!

I had Walters for both lecture and lab. He is a shitty teacher, worse for lab than lecture. Lecture is powerpoint, each picture is out of the book, each word from his mouth is from the text. No exaggeration. By the way, the book is much more clear and receptive to questions. The problems: hard to understand, uninterested, not clear as to what you will be tested on, rambles off on his thoughts leaving them never to be finished. Lab is hell. No other teacher does 152. Study a lot.

I had Dr. Walters for lab, and it was pretty bad. He never explained things very well, he used slides of things we'd never seen before on the quizzes and asked us to identify them, and any time you had a question, he would always seem to be gone, nowhere to be found. It was a miserable experience. This class convinced me once and for all to give up on the biology major and find something else to study.

Walters is the worst teacher possibly ever. I don't say this because the Lab was very hard, it wasn't, thank god it goes hand in hand with lecture. Becuase Walters takes pride in trying to confuse you by spending the first hour of every lab asking questions, giving no help, and rambling on about nothing forever. Horrible speech and diction skills, I have never been so unmotivated by a teacher on a subject that I actually like. He had no business stepping foot in a classroom. He is by far the worst teacher I have had here, BY FAR!

First thing is first the whole first year of Bio sucks AND bio 152 is probably the worst of them all!! I thought I had it bad when I took Gambs for 153, but taking Dirk Walters for 152 was far worse. The best piece of advice that I can give you is to read and memorize every chapter in the book that is covered in lecture. You should be dreaming about life cycles by the end of the quarter. Since it is widely known that Walters hates teaching this class another piece of advice is to take a different Lab instructor (I suggest Mr. Overstreet) so you can learn the material in a half way interesting manner.

Well, this is the first C I have ever recieved in my entire life. I am not sure if it was Walters' fault, because Bio 152 is a HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE class!!!! Worst class (other than calculus) that I have ever taken. Dr. Walters definitely didn't make this class easy, interesting, fun, memorable, or worth getting up at 8 in the morning for. He is generally a nice guy, but he rambles on about wierd ass shit until you have completely lost all train of thought about anything. I wouldn't say Dr. Jenkey is any better.....so I am going to assume that 152 is just a shitty class......have fun with that!

What can I say this is the first class in college that I did not pass in fact this is the first class in my life that I did not pass. I worked harder in this class then I did any other class, I was in office hours like clock work yet I still managed to get a D(Not because of me) Doctor Walters is indeed a good person but he should not teach anymore because he is not interesting and he does not explain things well. When I went to office hours and asked a question maybe about some terminology that I did not understand he would explain it with more terminology(which bio 152 has a lot of) and get you more confused. Great Person, Not so Great Teacher, Don't Go there.

He was a great guy in my plant ID lab. I really loved his dry sense of humor. He sometimes seems very uninterested but if you approach him and ask him specific questions he was really great. He is the poster child for getting what out of something what you put into it. He is a great instructor who will help out as much as needed.
