He's really fun and he has done some great planning (he likes to talk about his win over chevron). His classes are very to the point and cover a lot of info. I recommend him for 101 and I bet he's a good teacher for the higher courses as well. Also, he has a cool haircut.

Paul Wack is really entertaining and funny. He also knows the subject matter. This class is all lectures from former CRP students who graduated from Cal Poly and are now working in the field. You should go to all the sessions because what they have to say is very important and useful. Not much else is expected from students in this class. Just 2 "thinking papers" (taking notes will help) and 1 current event. There is no final. Many of my friends in this class were considering changing to another major because this class is sort of boring. I really think that this major is going to get very interesting once we start taking labs in it. Lectures are always boring. Just stick with it. One thing though, Paul Wack is hard to talk to when there are other people around. He does not give any student his full attention. My friend had this experience more than once.

This class is just a credit course, so there's hardly anything to do. Just 3 papers you'll have to turn in. Wack cracks jokes constantly, which makes everyone laugh - he is a total ham - but sometimes it can get annoying. But that's just me - he is serious where he needs to be, I guess. Anyway, if you're taking this class then it's required and only Wack teaches it, o you don't have any choice anyway. Listen to the guest lecturers and ask them the tough questions - Wack likes that.

What can i say, wack is wacky- but in a good way. He loves to teach, is very lively, and really knows what he is talking about, especially considering he has extensive experience that continues today with his consulting firm. His jokes are funny- even if most of them are funny only because they arent funny. But whatever. I highly recommend taking him if you can, because he makes class interesting and is passionate about the topics (ex: hates Wal-mart, has never even stepped foot into one).

I'm not done with this class yet, so I don't know what grade I have (my guess is an "A") but i don't even care what it is. I have learned SO much about City and Regional Planning from this guy. His extensive knowledge of the subject and general enthusiasm for his profession have totally confirmed my desire to go into this field. He jokes a lot and goes on tangents quite often, but both always relate to CRP. His jokes are actually really funny, and I've never been bored in the two-hour class. Wack is a fairly easy grader, but partly because the students are prepared so well for the projects and exams. He gives you a complete view of the profession and all of it's aspects. I really recommend this professor, he's a interesting, smart guy who is really in touch with his students.

I enjoyed coming to this class. Wack had a wacky sense of humor and really cared about the students and subject matter. He grades easily on the assignments, but the midterms are difficult. I earned a B+ in this class because I scored low on both midterms. You'll have fun in his class.

Professor "Wacko" is the coolest teacher ever. True his tests are damn hard, but his antics make up for it. Also he gave our class 3 homework assignments worth 200 points each. Then two tests worth 200 points each. How many classes do you have where homework is 60% and tests are 40% of your grade totally cool. He is a very funny teacher . A must have in any CRP class you won't regret it.

Professor Wack is the funniest teacher I have ever had. He never said anything completley seriously, every sentence coming out of his mouth had a joke in it. He was a great teacher though, he loves planning and he teaches it well. I never wanted to skip his class because it was always so entertaining and you learned so much. Just be careful because although he grades projects and homework very easily and his demeanor is so silly, his tests are very hard. I didn't do so well on them but I still got a B in the class because I did all the projects. Overall he is a great teacher.

Best teacher ever. He seriously is hilarious. This is the first class where I haven't missed a single session. It's not even like it was required to go to every one. 3 projects, 2 tests, no final. Funniest teacher ever.

CRP 212 is a very boring class. The subject matter might be interesting but it is hard to follow because Wack is so wack. He goes off on tangents about things that are irrelevent. Also, the tests are nearly impossible! Don't worry if you blow either of the tests though, the three projects are enough to get you a B, maybe an A in the class. I suggest sitting in the front to try to stay awake and getting some friends together for a serious study group. There is a lot of information to take in in this class.

Wack is really nice and really funny, but WATCH OUT He has some of the hardest tests I have ever taken!!! I can't believe how hard they are, I studied and studied and still didnt do well. They are mostly essay and short answer format with NOOOO multiple choice! But he is a great guy, I did learn a lot.

Wack is a good instructor. He's lectures are pretty scattered but then again so is he. He's funny and has tons of planning knowledge to share. Don't be afraid to go into his office hours, he's approachable and a great one-on-one kind of teacher. I'd take him again!

Prof Wack is an excellent instructor. He does go off on tangents but if he presented the material without some humor, it would be difficult to stay awake. CRP 212 isn't the most interesting major course but ALL the material is useful for other CRP classes. He has passion for his job and a sense of humor. Yes, is tests are hard but not if you read & attend class.

He is a great teacher like everyone said. He is funny, fair, and makes the class interesting. His tests are hard, but if you study all the material he tells, you will be higher on the curve. If you truly want an A in the class, study the details. You may want more details on the projects, but just ask him if you don't know what you are doing.

Great guy. Tests are hard but he has his own "Wacko" curve system that really saved me. Also, as long as you put in effort into the projects then you'll get 100% on them. Really funny and fair and always makes lectures fun. :)

His tests are very difficult due to the amount of small details you need to remember. For example, the last test asked the current population of the US and CA. He is a very humorous guy. He made the 2.0 hour class engaging. I found myself missing very important information after his jokes. He tends hit you with a factual information right after his jokes. If you want to learn and have fun, this is the professor for you.

This guy definitely knows everything that there is to know about the planning profession. I was amazed at how much this guy had to offer us. There are three projects and two exams. He does not test during finals week because he does not believe in finals. If you miss a day in class you will miss the corresponding question on the final so be sure you go to class. I got an A on each project and they helpd me study for the exams. The exams were pretty difficult to study for simply because there is so much material to cover. The questions were definitely all covered in the readings. Dont worry about doing bad on the exams though, he grades pretty easily on the projects and they will save your grade.

Paul Wack is the man. His test are a little extreme but makes sure that everyone is one track. In class he gives pretty good lectures compared to most CRP teachers. With Paul's crazy curving system you are guaranteed at least a B in the class. Highly encourage you to take him.

Wack is a really funny, and entertaining dude. I really enjoyed his integration of comics and humor into his lectures, the only thing is that humor was about the only thing keeping me awake. If you take this class, pay fierce attention to facts he tosses out in his lectures and power points. You really have to take careful notes, because he\'ll only spend about 2 second on each slide he presents ha. The test\'s are rough because they aren\'t multiple choice, and they are based on pretty obscure details learned in the lectures but if you answer each question with an effort he\'ll try his best to give you some sort of retribution for your work. Overall I am pretty pleased with this Wack(y) experience.

Professor Wack is a very amusing teacher. His lectures were never boring and he would always have some witty comments. His tests are pretty difficult, but he assigns projects that keep your grade high even if you bomb the tests. As long as you put effort into the projects you will get a good grade. Also, as he says he likes a \"soft landing\" and didn\'t give a final.

Paul Wack can be a strange instructor to take. His lectures are great, and seem very straightforward; there is a lot of reading but it is not too difficult. However, we got to the first midterm, and it was ridiculously hard! He expects you to have memorized all the important lists and be able to repeat them exactly on the test. He\'ll say that nothing that isn\'t in class is on the test, which is true, but there is just a ton of pure memorization. Then, on the other hand, I thought that because I didn\'t do well on the midterms, I wouldn\'t do well in the class, but the assignments are worth so much that they can really bring a grade up. So it\'s important to make sure that you prove in the assignments that you know what the class is about.

Wack\'s a pretty entertaining guy. He\'s really nice and knows what he\'s talking about. The class itself is pretty dry...I mean, how interesting can zoning be? Not very. He admits that his exams are ridiculous...which they are, but his 2 assignments are SUPER easy to get close to, if not 100% on them. And they constitute 50% of the grade. You have to try really hard to get anything below a C in this class.

this class is extreeeemly boring. i sat in the front row every week so i could try and pay attention but it didnt work. the tests are hard i think i failed both of them. the 3 hw assighnments he gives are pretty easy maybe just a little time consuming but theyre each worth 200 points so it helps out your grade a lot. i didnt do one of them and still ended up with a B. hes a funny guy, but no one can make zoning interesting so i dont blame him for my hatred toward the subject. do the hw and try and study and youll do fine. a very good thing is that he doesnt give out a final!

To Whom it may concern, Wack is a boss dipped in sauce. His jokes are great if you have a similar sense of humor. The man knows his shit in the planning world and in the world of sustainability. I had him a few times, and figured I would give a non-planner perspective. On Wack: good guy, been around, very willing to help in all regards to school and career. On CRP 212, 336, or EDES 406: 212 was probably him at his best. Tests are tough but curved and you could pull an A if you really wanted to. Be able to dish back the sarcasm (respectably) and you are golden, or sit back and think about how you are too cool for school, I think that was an option too. I am trying to remember the format of 212- couple papers, some in class assignments, couple tests...think that was it. The mans a planner so he is good at structuring the course so it has an equal workload - final usually happens a couple weeks early, then the end of the quarter is always more relieving compared to your other classes. I really like that Wack takes the time to read and put some comments into papers and other material submitted by students. As he said the other day, he learns more than we do each quarter because we submit so much new material (collectively).

This guy is a joke. He says he doesn't want you to do a lot of reading and that you should just skim it and then asks questions arbitratially from the most obscure points in the readings. He just reads from slides on power points (way to fast) that he didn't even create. Because they are power points set up by different professors or his grad classes they are all very different styles, and he doesn't present any of them well. His joke are funny about ever one in ten jokes. He thinks very highly of himself and it's very evident. His tests are theost ridiculous thing. I cannot respect a teacher that sets up all students to fail the tests and them simply curve them so that everyone passes. What are we supposed to learn in a class structured that way!? If you can avoid this guy, do it

Paul is a great guy. He assigns waaaay too much reading, but he does it because he loves environmental planning and he wants his students to have a good grasp of the concepts. for the midterm I would recommend splitting up the readings with some trusted friends and creating synopsies and note pages to distribute to each other. however, if you want to get an A you should do the readings yourself. we spent a lot of time setting up the framework for a future project about sustainable indicators. the next class has to go out and gather the specific indicator information. have fun with stats! ha

This guy is top-tier. Knows planning inside out, and knows what students want -- cut the bs. 1 midterm 1 final couple of easy A assignments Last day is an individual class presentation Well, the tests are hard because there is so much to study, it is sort of hit and miss on what to study and what you think will be on his test. You can bs your way through the tests, and he will give you partial credit. They are all written so it is pretty hard to guess unlike scantron. The class atmosphere is awesome, but you do have to go to every class in order to pass because each class is like a chunk of the test, and if you don't go you miss that part on the test. Overall I would take him again, because he cares about the students unlike most professors at this school.

Wack is a great teacher because he tests you hard but gives you a chance to redeem youself with the three assignments which he almost always gives you a 100% on. All you do in this class is pretty much watch a movie every class day but it sucks because he doesnt really talk about the reading which there are a LOT of, and its hard to know what he'll test you on so you have to pay close attension when he goes over everything the day before the test.

Wack is the best entertainer in CRP! Makes the classes interesting with his funny jokes and comments. Have a really good personally, easy going teacher and very helpful to his students. Although his really are hard, the best thing about him is that sometimes he curves the grades and gives you good grades on the homework. One of the best way to pass his tests is to always take down notes during lectures and remember the stuffs he always mentions 'coz that'll sure be included in the exam.

Hey Paul..learn to teach, k? You\'re a nice guy and I *think* you recognize students\' needs OUTSIDE of the classroom (like advising), but in terms of teaching a subject, you are (to put it bluntly) HORRIBLE. Your tests had crap on it that had nothing to do with anything relevant to the subject. And this is coming from someone who did well on both of your tests (sad when the highest scorer of the test is 50 points below the max amount of points on the test). Next time you give a test though, tell us what to study for and actually put it on the test, instead of telling us what to study and then not putting it on the test. Sound good?

Paul is a funny teacher and knows how to make class material fun to learn. He saves students money by not requiring a text book and uses blackboard to distribute reading materials. If you are not a CRP major or not in a CRP based minor, you might have a hard time following class lectures since he does not want to go into things that most people already know. The assignments are pretty easy but make sure you do all the readings because Wack's exams for this class aren't multiple choice but 6 essay questions each.
