She is the sweetest teacher. If you take her coarse it is a lot more work then it should be. I learned a lot about ballet. By the way, ballet is hard. Just a warning. It is almost impossible to get an A in her class. But I really liked her.

Dr. Suhr is great. She reestablished my technique in ballet. She is very open minded and patient with the girls who have not taken ballet before. My old ballet teackers were very harsh and strict but she was always kind. A great dancer and very inspirational because she is so healthy and flexible still.

Dr. Suhr is quite a character. Although a little cheesy, she really seems to care a lot for her students and wants them to succeed. She calls students a lot at home. She expects people to be really excited about dance and musicals (even though most are jsut there for the grade. The "reports" turned be a lot of tedious, repeative busy work similar to a 7th grade book report. I had a good time in this class. The reconstruction project was a lot of work but ended up being really fun. Tips...Don't be late or miss a class. She's a bit of an attendance nazi. Its a good idea to stop by her office and make friends with her. She loves to her about her students.

Moon Ja is a very nice woman. She has a lot of background in dance and she makes sure that you take the class seriously. You do have to attend class and write a paper. This is standard for most of the dance classes here at Cal Poly and it's not that bad. She does grade kind of hard; even though this is only a beginning class, if you aren't that good at technique your grade will go down. Make sure you have a good group for your final project, otherwise your routine won't be as good and your grade will reflect it.

Wonderful professor! I thought ballroom dancing would not be a guy's ideal class, but the class material and the professor made this THE most fun class I have EVER had. It was a great break from the technical world of engineering. But don't let this fool you. You do have to practice the steps and participate in the class and activites to get an A. She is very nice, teaches well, and makes ballroom dancing fun (she points out mistakes because she loves us :). Take this if you can!

I actually looked forward to getting up and going to school just because of this class. You need to practice the steps outside of class and it is not an easy A, take it credit no credit and just enjoy it, she designs it well and utilizes your time in a productive manner, take it with friends if you can.

Dr. Suhr's the sweetest teacher I've ever had. She genuinely cares for all her students, and it's nice to have a teacher who loves her job. I really enjoyed ballroom dancing, and I was fortunate to have really great people in my class. Everyone took the class seriously, and spent time outside of school to practice the dance steps. I would recommend everyone to take this class ... it's a nice break from all the academic classes you have to take at calpoly.

Dr. Suhr is so adorable and cute. If you can take beginning ballroom dance, you won't regret it! It's hilarious and you meet so many cool people. I had a great time and her humor and teachings contributed to that. Take the class!!!

Moon Ja is great! I loved the class and learning how to dance various dances. However, what I didn't realize was how heavily this class focuses on the history, notation, and related material outside of the basic dancing. If you take Moon Ja get ready to learn lots. It may be more then you bargained for.

Dr. Suhr's quizzes and tests were very detailed and not clear. Her grading is unfair sometimes and her attendance policy is harsh. If students miss a class, even if it is previously cleared, you are required to do a 'make-up' essay. Be prepared for a LONG 2 hours of lecture and lots of reading! If you have had her for a dance class be prepared, her expectations for her dance classes and her lecture classes are very different.

this course has interesting material but moon ja is not a great lecturer. eventhough this is a lecture course, she requires you to dance infront of the class. she tends to go offinto long detailed stories in the middle of lecture and never relates the stories to the lecture material. also, if you leave her a message as to why you arent in class, she shares it with all of the students (so-and-so is sick, so-and-so is having surgery, etc) But what bugged me most about this class is that she kept a dance class from using the dance studio one class because she thought that our lecture class had the right to dance in the studio (eventhough the other class is scheduled to have the space!!!!)

think twice before taking this class. i love dance, and thought it would be a cool way to fulfill a ge, but all i got was two long hours of lecture two days a week and memorizing 75 pages of size 10 font that moon ja wrote herself, only to be tested on obscure and random facts. she feels she is a martyr and wants everyone else to be also.

the class is really boring, and i like dance. the fact that it was at 7am was probably the major problem, it's just too boring to stand, and after one absence she starts deducting points from your grade. the fact that the "quizzes" were actually midterms worth 20% of your grade, and each were only 20 questions long, made them unnecessarily hard. she's a really nice lady, and will invite people to her thanksgiving dinner who aren't going home, but the class isn't worth it. take a theater class or something. it's just too damn boring for what should be a fun GE. really, believe this, cause I took it even after reading the polyratings and regretted it.

For your own sanity, do not take this class for a GE. As an incoming freshman it sounded like a fun and easy A, and I was really exctied to dance. I showed up on the first dance not only to be slapped in the face by a huge work load, but insane tests and no dancing! I got a B only because I devoted my life to the class, and stressed an insane amount to memorize minute and trivial details about dancers whose names I couldn't pronounce only to realize the level and pace she wants you to learn at is only appropriate for dance majors. If you're not a dance major, seriously rethink taking this course, Moon Ja was very nice but her class nearly drove me over the edge.

When I signed up for this class I thought it was going to be an easy A. However, this class is no walk in the park. Class attendance is crucial, especially with Dr. Suhr's strict attendance policy. You must be prepared to read the textbook, pay attention to lecture and study hard for the quizzes. The quizzes are 20 questions each worth 20% of your grade. They are difficult and obscure, so know the material. While this class is more challenging than I anticipated, Dr. Suhr is really an amazing woman. She has such passion for teaching and is very dedicated to her students. She taught me not only about dance, but life lessons as well. If you decided to take her class, just be open-minded to a different style of teaching and you should enjoy it.

Dr. Suhr is the sweetest dance teacher. However, I didn't get as much of workout as I wanted. There were often long breaks between exercises. Overall, it was a pretty relaxed class. It's not impossible to get an A.

This has to be the worst dance teacher I have ever had in my life. She expects you to take her class as if it is the only class that you have and thinks it is the most important. Her grading is very unfair, even if you attend ever class you will get a B unless you are up to par in your dancing ability. She tends to talk about herself for about 3/4 of the leture and loves to boast about everything that she does. Her facade comes off as a cute nice woman, but underneath she is in it for herself and no one else. I would clearly recommend not taking this teacher, she does not make the art of dance fun, but a drag to go to class everyday.

Moon Ja is a very interesting woman. The first couple days of class you will walk in and absolutely adore how little and energetic she is. However, after awhile, this gets a little old. She repeats the same stories over and over again, and she goes at a very fast pace. At barre she would give a really long warmup, only once, and expect you to remember it, which might have been possible if she had slowed down a bit. Overall though, she is a very nice teacher, and more than willing to help you out with anything you might need. She really likes to meet with her students, and if you take time out to talk to her, she will absolutely love it. If you don't get annoyed easily, take her. If you do, get a sense of humor to be able to laugh at her forgetfulness, and you'll be fine.

This was such an unjusticed class. I went to every single class and did everyone assignment...clearly that would be an A according to her syllabus. I think she gave me a B because I did reform to her type of dancing. Not everyone is a ballerina and now I am reconsidering my minor in dance. I believe that dance should be an effort made class otherwise if you aren't up to her "standard" of dance, it doesn't matter if you worked your ass off. Also, for a 2unit course she asked for a lot of stuff to do outside of class. ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!! someone needs to pull her aside and talk to her about her grading policies and how she calculates what grade you get.

I would not recommend this professor to anyone. She says she has her PHD but I'm not sure I believe it. I took this class thinking it would be a fun class and somewhat interested in musicals, also it would fulfil a requirement. I was really wrong...I barely learned anything. The class was all busy work! We had questions to turn in once a week on two different books, group work where you have to watch musicals and write about them, and a reconstruction project where you learn a dance from a musical. I didn't know this class was an activity class. Moon Ja doesn't understand things when you try to explain. And she only wants things done her way! NOT RECOMMENDED!
