simon was a decent professor for econ. she sort of teaches us as if we were preschool kids but i guess it breaks down the material easier. she has an insane amount of hw for a basic econ class...and collects it too! definitely did not love the hw in that class..but her quizes and tests are fair. as long as you read the chapters and put some effort into the hw, you should be able to handle this class no problem.

Lisa Simon is truly a good teacher. She trys to explain everything in real detail, but also simply enough for everyone to understand. She wants everyone in the class to get an A and makes the tests accordingly. It is not hard to get a good grade in this class. The one hard aspect of it is that in the beginning of every class, you discuss the homework. People are randomly choosen to answer the questions, making it very nerve racking. But this is good in a way...it actually gets you to DO the homework and actually LEARN the material in fear that you'll get called on. I COMPLETELY recommend taking Ms. Simon.

Professor Simon is a decent professor. She has a system of lecturing on the homework, making you do the homework, then reviewing the homework, which kind of got old. Your homework isn't always turned in, but you basically have to do every one because she will randomly call on people in class to answer questions regarding the homework. She seems to home in on certain people and always call on them. I'm not sure what it is, but I was only called on once. Her study guide was pretty helpful. The first mid-term is really easy. For me it was just a review of High School Econ. The final was really difficult. Either she doesn't know how to do grades, or I really bombed the final. I went in there with a very solid A (98%+) and ended up with a low B. I suspect the final was just harder than I thought. I never went to see her in office hours, so I can't say anything about that experience. I don't know about the other Econ professors, so you might want to try another professor. Otherwise, she's pretty decent.

The Bad: Simon is very annoying... I'll say this because 99% of human beings who speak to her would agree. That aside, she doesn't really teach you material... at all. She just re-states what is in the book, only she does it with a lisp to piss you off. As far as teaching goes, she can't be graded, because she simply doesn't teach. The Good: She is nice, and likes students. Her classes are not hard. Homework is free points, as long as you do it, and the tests come from the reading material. I would read all the chapters the night before the tests, and get A's and B's. I didn't like to go to this class ever, but it's a safe bet on your GPA.

Seriously you are an idiot if you don't take Lisa. If you do your homework you get 50 out of the total 300 points in the class (which is based on just turning it in). Another 50 points are 5 quizzes, which are either multiple choice or a pretty easy graph (and I'm not that smart). The graph quizzes, which you can keep, are the EXACT same as the ones on the two midterms and the final, so you literally get a free 20% on each of those. She doesn't curve, but it's not that tough to get a good grade. The extra study guide does help.

Simon was a nice lady. Her class was straight forward with homework that was more time consuming then anything, quizzes that weren't too difficult, and midterms that she gave you a study sheet for. I studied what was on the study sheet and got an A on the midterms. The final was similar to the midterms are was a reasonable test. If you put effort in, you'll get an A.

Lisa is a great teacher. I hate econ cause its so damn boring, but she made class pretty interesting. There is a lot of class discussion (go over the homework everyday) and she calls on students alllll the time (you have to have nametages). Sounds shitty, but its actually pretty fun. She is a funny lady and her homework, quizes and tests are easy. She assigns homework twice a week and you go over it every day (so you could basically just do it in class while you are reviewing it) and she randomly collects 6 of them. There are also 6 quizzes which are a cake walk, she tells you exactly what are on them. These are "pop quizzes" kinda but she tells you what you need to know before hand. She drops the lowest homework and the lowest quiz. most people got 100s on all quizes and homeworks. Tests are cake, she tells you whats on them, they are basically the quizes compiled. She also writes an agenda at the beginning of every class and it will say if homework will be collected or not and whether there is a quiz, so if there is no quiz and no homework, you can leave since you arent missing much. i would reccomend her for sure.

hw due every class session. takes a lil over an hour to do. tests are scantron and some calculations at the end. but here is the good part. the calculations at the end are exactly like the quiz she will give you the class before the test. so study that and you will get 100% on that section of the test. you only turn in 6 hw papers, take 6 quizzes, and throw out your lowest score of both. final was pretty easy, it was half cumulative, half new material. 40% of the final was exactly like the quiz we took before it, so your guaranteed a perfect score on that. take simon. shes nice, passionate, and easy. you just have to study a lil bit and youll get a good grade

The level of diffuclty of the class wasnt too hard, however, she is SOOO BORING!! She definately should not be teaching b/c her lectures are entirely useless to go to. I taught the entire course to myself. If it weren't for her homework collections (she collects 6 randomly, drops score) and random quizzes (6, drops lowest score), i would NEVER have gone to the class. Try and get someone else for this class, otherwise bring a gun, because after 15 minutes of hearing her talk (she has a HUGE LISP) without really saying anything, you'll want to put a bullet in your head.

Simon was alright as a professor. One thing that kinda irked me in the beginning is that she treats you like you're in elementary school. At first i hated it, but she actually takes time to get to know names and whatnot. We also had a discussion in the class one day about Polyratings and evals, and she knows that kids think she treats them like little kids and she claims she tries not to. After that i sorta had a different outlook. The class is not bad. However, on the midterms, for a lot of questions i just found myself thinking "i really don't think we ever covered even anything like this in class". But one thing about introduction to marketing is that a lot of it is common sense, so i still did alright. Make sure you pick a good group because you have to do 2 projects with them over the quarter. 1 is just a case study she gives you and is pretty easy, while the other one is a research paper that can be a pain. She grades fairly easy on them though. You also have to individually interview a manager of some store to learn about the supply chain near the end of the quarter. There's weekly online quizzes as well which can be a pain, but all the answers are out on the internet if you can search for the right stuff. At the end i was .02% away from the next letter grade and she bumped me up, so i was glad for that. An alright class overall.

She has such potential to be a great instructor if not for her torturous exams. They are truly a joke in terms of difficulty and border on absurd. This is even more difficult with lectures that dont teach you what you should be learning in preparation for an exam. Group projects are cool though- that is where you actually learn something. All your hard work seems like a joke when you can pass er exams though- lets alone read the questions and make sense of them. I have heard DANES is a much easier instructor. Simon does have a good sense of humor though.

It was a really interesting class in which students got to participate in discussion. She loved to talke about sex, partying, etc... which gets old at times having your teacher talk about what you do on the weekends. Overall she was okay. She definately does have a lot of energy, but I feel that her big projects were just busy work. Some groups presented this oral presentation worth 20% or so of our grade during the second week of the quarter. Obviously, nothing about the class had prepared them, it was just busy work. Her midterms were fair, but somehow, no matter how much I studied, I seemed to have done a lot worse than I hoped. I would not recommend purchasing the book at all. However, if you don't get the book, just copy or borrow someone's CD that comes with it. It has hypertext and a full glossary that can help you study for every term on the tests. That's all you need, not the entire book. I would recommend Lisa... but also recommend you check the other polyratings of other professors.

If you're looking to get an easy A, then this is the professor you want. Lisa's tests were very easy; the questions come directly from her study guide and all her lectures are on blackboard. Besides the group project and presentation there isn't any outside work. I have a hard time listening to boring lectures, I don't think I listened to Lisa talk at all. Everything she said came directly from the book. I do think she's a very nice, helpful professor. Make sure she learns your name; either visit her once in office hours or ask questions. I really enjoyed this class. Mrs. Simon made everything very clear, always using examples we could really relate to. She also gave you a very detailed study guide before all the midterms so you know exactly what to study for so by just studying those, the tests were always a breeze. The project was a lot of work, but if you make friends with your group it isn't that bad. Plus, every class has to do the project anyways. The class was always enjoyable to be in. And a little advice, don't be late to the first day of class!

This professor is really annoying, she has a lipse, and a weird sense of humor. The only reason I go to class is because I like my group and other students in the class. Simon takes all of her information straight from the book. She gives you a study guide a week before the exam (2, all multiple choice). There is a project in the beginning of the quarter that is mostly just busy work but the groups that get to present near the end of the quarter are more interesting. The first group only has about a week to prepare for their presentation so pick a subject that you really know about. There is a marketing plan and the final is comprehensive.

I didnt read the book let alone buy it and it really wasn't necessary. Lisa told the class the first day that it was going to be a LOT of work and require a LOT of time, but that wasnt true at all. There are 5 assignments in class that are just busy work but they do help your grade so it is worth sitting through two hours of meaningless nonsense coming from a lady that does not seem like she knows anything due to her inability to answer anything not directly from the book (and even those answers were just jarbled up sentences). Marketing could have been a LOT more meaningful and useful if the material was presented differently. EASY B a little more work to get an A and it is fun to put her on the spot by asking questions that a person with an average marketing backround would know just to watch her pull an answer out of her butt which makes no sense at all. I hope i never have a teacher as full of as much s#$% as she is again.

This was one of my favorite classes this quarter. She has a lot of class discussion and keeps her lectures to a minimum. This made class time go by fast. She has quizzes every two chapters and the way she works it is she quizzes before she lectures. Her philosophy is that because we read the material before class, we should be ready to be quizzed. The chapters were ridiculously long and we were expected to read one chapter before each class. I finished up purchasing the premium content on the textbook website for $10 where it had a short, easy-to-follow, lecture on each chapter. Keep in mind, her final is the EXACT same questions from the quizzes. Though don’t count on studying off them as she only gives back the scantron part of the quiz. After the first week she has us separate into groups of different academic concentrations (she also did race, age, and a few other categories, but that’s another story). This was the group she suggested our marketing group be though it didn’t have to be. With this group we had to do a presentation on a product she chose and a final paper on something we chose. It was not too hard to write. Though beware, like all of her assignments, she grades very hard. A small grammatical error will cost you HUGE. All in all, if I were to do it over I would definitely still take her. While there is a tremendous amount of busy work (stuff that only takes ten minutes to do), she is a very easy B and if you work a little harder, an A is definitely attainable.

I'll admit, Lisa Simon enjoys teaching...however, that doesnt mean shes good at it. Dont get my wrong, I learned a lot this quarter and am happy with my grade, but theres a ton of busy work and lectures are pointless but I always went because there were in class assignments that made up a big part of our grade. She also treats everyone like they are 5...kind of intelligence insulting but also kind of good for your grade...If you take her, just work hard in the beginning and things wont stressful at the end of the quarter. She knows her stuff, but she treats the class like they're in high school. Shushing all the time and having everyone get up, move around and do stuff. She acts weird too, as if it's funny. But it just reminds me of my mom and gets old. She loves being master of her domain, so she doesn't really like to be challenged. Correcting her is fine if it's blatantly obvious, but challenging her knowledge is another thing. She requires quite a bit of busy work, but it's all organized well and turned in online. This makes managing the busy work very easy. Before the final, the class average was a B+. In other words, the class is easy. The final isn't hard either--just review the topics on the study guide once and know your marketing plan. Take this class when you are in your early years of college. This class was ridiculous. She treats you like a 3rd grader and makes incredibly inappropriate comments during class discussions. For the class you get into groups and remain with that group for the rest of the quarter so pick a good group. There are quizzes and learning activities that are completed through blackboard before every class. Throughout the quarter you and your group create a marketing plan for a company of your choice. It is completed in two parts. The final is multiple choice and I wouldn\'t recommend a lot of studying. Ms. Simon is a decent teacher with a terrible attitude. Her classes were enjoyable, including interesting information, group activities, and guest speakers. However, that did not nearly make up for how terrible to the class she was. She treated students like children, using sing songy voices and presenting information as if she were speaking to an elementary school class. Her grading, although relatively based on the content, was also partially based on how much she liked you as a person. The group grading system allowed her to mark up or down specific students in groups that she didn't like. Her expectations were never clear and instructions for projects were confusing. It took my group over half of the quarter to truly understand what she wanted out of our group project. In general, DO NOT TAKE SIMON. Simon has so much potential to be an average professor, but throws it all away by treating her classes like fifth graders. We played telephone among other childish games in class, and consequently her exams were difficult clearly from a lack of instruction and intelligent insight. Her grading process is outright subjective and indicative not of the level of knowledge you portray, but of how many commas you forgot to put in a sentence. She makes you not want to participate in class as she is condescending and does not accept an answer unless it is worded exactly as she would like it. She also doesn't go over test material. As much as people complain about her, Professor Simon is actually a good professor and cares a lot about her students and their success, which at the college level is hard to find. She is very passionate and knowledgeable about marketing. She arranges the class in a learn by doing philosophy, where we work hands on with a group to create and develop a marketing plan. Most of the class time was spent working on the project (which means less time for clarification of reading). The tests seem to have came straight from the reading, so as long as you do the reading and understand the concepts the midterms weren't too bad.

Lisa Simon was our workshop professor and honestly was just terrible. She barely did anything in our class and had our peer advisors teach us everything. Thank god they were so awesome or else I would hate the whole class. When people came in a few minutes late she would stop talking and rudely stare them down until they had sat down. While I understand coming in late is rude I feel it is very inappropriate to be so immature as a professor. Also everything she said to us made me feel like she was treating us like children because all she did was talk down to us and make us feel uncomfortable. Throughout the quarter we had a short write up for our group that wasn't too much work but at the end of the quarter they give an unnecessarily HUGE amount of work to us the week of dead week! We had 4 of the write ups due along with a presentation worth 20% of your grade, its a lot of work that takes up a huge amount of the time I needed to study for other classes. On top of that the final was the morning after the presentation on saturday. It's crazy how much they expected out of us in one week.

Aside from the workshop setup of 346 for this quarter, which will work itself out with time, Simon was another problem. Whereas I was still able to enjoy lecture because of Davis, there was no saving grace in workshop when it came to having Lisa. I was amazed that the reviews were right and that she really did treat us like kindergartners, and that she really does seem to do nothing. Simon knows her stuff, don't get me wrong. But she comes across as cocky/arrogant during labs which is annoying. The business department is experimenting with different curriculums for this marketing intro class. I had the Dobson lecture, Simon lab duo. We had a weekly assignment where we were developing a product that our group came up with on our own. We analyzed every aspect of the marketing process which was cool. However, grading could be pretty tough and the weekly assignments are a solid chunk of your grade. The midterm is ROUGH covering 11 chapters. The final? Oh, just a casual 19 chapters of information. You're taking it one way or another, so tear their study guides apart cuz I got B's on both by doing so. You have a presentation on your product that is 1/5 of your grade as well. Put in the work and you'll get the grade you want, but don't expect to waltz through it.

I had the Simon/ Davis combo for this class with Simon as my discussion professor. She talks to the class as if we're all 5 years old, and constantly screams "WHHHHYYYY" at you in a childish voice. The only thing you work on is the group project so choose your groups wisely because she only gives team grades no individual grades. The assignments don't have clear directions at all, and you're expected to know what to do based off an example of a decent one from the quarter before. When she grades the assignments for the project she grades very harshly. Sometimes it feels like she only cares about grammar and using words that she likes. The midterm and the final cover 20 chapters of the book but none of that material is ever covered in class.

"Professor" Simon treats her students like they are 5 years old. I did not once see her appropriately answer a question once throughout the entire quarter. More often than not she will cut you off when you try to ask a question, and will either make you feel like an idiot for asking, or totally ignore the question altogether. If it wasn't for the recently put in place mentor program (which still needs significant work), there would have been very little learning in this course. If you like taking actual professors that peak your interest in material, and treat you with respect, Simon is not for you.

AVOID this class if you can. I wish I would have waited to take Dobson. Lisa is a terrible teacher and can be rude to students and has no problem putting them on the spot in front of the rest of the class. It makes it uncomfortable for the student and the rest of the class to watch. The midterm was easy but the project was long and tedious. She does not give clear instructions for the project components. It's really not worth it, Lisa is horrible. Do yourself a favor and take a different teacher.

if you don't mind hearing the phrases "yaaaa babaaayy" & "riiiiiiiiiiiight" 100 times a day, then take her class. Her lectures are pointless, doesn't help at all. She skips through half of it anyways. Quizzes are easily found on quizlet. Midterm was hard, didn't fit her lectures/readings well. But with common sense, I believe most people can pull off a C on it. The class structure is awful, but i think that all BUS 346 are like that because everyone seems to hate them, regardless of professor. The project is extremely rushed and little help is given besides 2 previous examples of work (which we grade and figure out whats good and bad). Learned some valuable things I guess. The mentors help a lot (shoutout to Jenna). My group definitely would have been completely lost if it weren't for her simplifying what we were suppose to do.

She was really as a person don't get me wrong, but her lectures were absolutely pointless. She would skip through the PowerPoints (which she didn't make, Bouvette did) and basically only focus on a few of the points from each chapter, and there would be way more points from the chapters on the midterm and final than those covered in lecture. The midterm and final were crazy hard and if you didn't read the book well on your own, you would probably fail just going off of what was even mentioned in class. She focused too much of class talking about the project and not enough actually teaching even half the material covered in the tests. The homework quizzes were easy and I actually thought the project was super educational and rewarding if you put work into it and went to office hours and ran things by your mentor. I definitely think she should have covered more material in class though and focus less on talking about the project given that the midterm and final together are worth wayyyyy more than the whole project which is absolute BS given the time that project takes. I got an A on the project and averaged an A on the rough drafts for it too and got an A on the presentation too but I got a C on the midterm and B- on the final and that screwed me over.

Lisa is a good lecturer and makes sure each class is very engaging. This class requires a TON of work though. While the tests and reading material is fairly straight forward, the marketing plan is very challenging. It requires you to meet with your marketing group at least 10 hours outside of class a week alone. She is a very difficult grader at first so it can be incredibly stressful trying to do both the lecture material and stay up to date with the marketing plan.

Pros: Hands-on practice marketing a new product Opportunity to create professional reports Online quizzes are easy points Student mentors guide your marketing group and answer questions Chance to compete for money, if your end-of-quarter pitch is good enough Simon will answer your questions if direct Tough grading is a motivator to try harder Cons: A LOT of work; the first 8 or 9 weeks is creating parts of the marketing plan, which is a lot of research and writing Tough grading; Simon is harshly critical of students' work (this is a motivator to do better though); usually grades improve as time goes on Working in groups (this was a con for me because the groups were assigned and I ended up doing most of the work, which was already a lot for 5 people to do) There is still a lot of text material to cover (2-3 chapters a week) Midterm was very hard, Final was much easier Simon can be a bit childish during class, which has annoyed some people Suggestions: If you take this course, know it is a lot of work, but I personally got a lot out of the experience. If you want a challenging experience to motivate you, this might be the professor to take. If you are looking for an easy A, I suggest looking elsewhere.

So I would say overall Simon isn't an awful professor, especially when compared to alternatives, but that the class itself is a complete mess, not to mention that the project itself should be another class completely. She says ya baby a lot. At first i cringed, but then I got used to it. I think i could have gotten an A if i knew how to do this class initially, as in, if the professor properly explained what she wanted, but she didn't, so i'll do it for you. Marketing plan - takes up a great deal of your life, but in order to get the value out of the 10+ hours you spend on it each week, make sure you have straight data, with footnotes ideally, at least every 3 sentences. Then you'll get a good grade. Every word needs to be crafted. Must be written with great skill. Grammar must all be on point. Of course, she does grade on a curve for the initials, so if you're paired against very smart groups, good luck! Midterm and final- kinda know your stuff, but really just look up quizlets and you'll find the way. Quizes - all online, but occasionally some sources have wrong answers. With caution. Lecture- no point in taking notes unless she explicitly states that its not like the textbook. But unfortunately the textbook doesn't really match up with the class. The marketing department should get on that. Show up to class. You'll lose points if you don't. Listen to your mentors too. They'll help point you in a good direction especially if your plan is already good from the start. Now go get the A that I didn't get!

Prof. Simon's class is pretty chill. You really don't need to read the book. The tests are made by the book company, so it's not like she writes them. I would just recommend going to her and your mentor before submitting any of your first drafts for the marketing plan assignment. She grades pretty hard, but not as bad as people say she does. Just care, I didn't do as well as I could have because I didn't start putting much effort in until the last few weeks.

I have never filled out a PolyRating before because I think it's biased and unprofessional. However, this was my worst experience with a professor, or any authoritative figure, in my entire life and therefore, deserves to be shared so people do not have to go through the same experience as I did. The majority of this class is based on creating a marketing plan that has deliverables due each week with a group of four to six people. One day a week is lecture, the second day is "workshop" to work on the project and various team elements. While I believe the project to be an exemplary model of the "Learn by Doing" philosophy, Lisa Simon approaches it very wrong. Professor Simon missed our first two days of class because she was at a marketing conference with a small group of students... okay, understandable. She then missed the workshop day during Week 2. The groups are formed during the very first week of class and Professor Simon uses your StrengthsQuest strengths to form the teams... whatever that means. My team comprised of two of the original members when we met during workshop day of Week 1 because (I'm guessing) the other members dropped the course. The peer mentors who "run" workshop and work with individual teams all quarter long assigned three people randomly to my group without any consultation with Professor Simon. I played with the cards I was dealt and we created a team contract to be followed throughout the entirety of the quarter and for the criteria for the two peer evaluations to be filled out mid-quarter and at the end of the quarter. Our class was instructed that we had to turn an existing product and twist a component to make it a "social good." We had a deliverable due the next workshop day (one week) that needed to outline what our product was specifically and why it was important, but we had not even met our professor yet. There was no structure to the class, no room to ask questions, and no way to get feedback. Fast forward to twelve hours before its due and my team still has not decided on a product and is ignoring all of my GroupMe messages. Out of frustration and not wanting to experience a crappy group for the rest of the quarter (I know we have all been there), I emailed Professor Simon about my issues and asking for guidance. She never responded to my email. The next day in class, I expressed my concerns to my group members in person and I was YELLED AT in the middle of class for "tattling" on them. The mentors did nothing to stop it. This happened on numerous occasions. I emailed my mentor and Professor Simon about my struggles and dissatisfaction with my group repeatedly. I was told it was a just a part of working in the real world. I beg to differ. If you do not do your work AT ALL and are flat out rude/condescending, you usually get fired or at least have some repercussions for your actions. I told Professor Simon that being a part of this group was hurting my mental health as I had several panic attacks and all-nighters picking up the slack for my other members. She told me, "I'm not switching you now, it's too far into the quarter." I EMAILED HER DURING THE SECOND WEEK OF SCHOOL BEFORE THE FIRST DELIVERABLE WAS EVEN DUE, BUT SHE NEVER EMAILED ME BACK. It's not even that my group was un-participating, but they were rude, ignored my messages, didn't even log onto Google Docs once for some assignments, hardly showed up to meetings, were argumentative about work that they never contributed to, and said nasty, disrespectful things to me. Whatever. I buckled my bootstraps and I took the project in stride. Picking up all the slack for three out of my four other group members. At the end of the day, one other girl and I only missed five points off the final marketing plan (I say us two because we did 80% of the work). On the day of the final (which is cumulative/based off the textbook and doesn't make any sense because there's a midterm and MOST OF THE CLASS DOES NOT EVEN FOCUS ON THE BOOK), Professor Simon says she is going to post all of our final grades besides the final while we take the test and not to email her being whiny about the grades we "earned." She said, "I will delete any emails I receive pertaining to grades." Well, guess what. I check my grade after I finish my final, and I missed ten points on my participation grade which is solely based on the project contribution which I did the entire project. What a joke and I cannot even email to ask her what I did wrong because SHE WILL JUST DELETE MY EMAIL ANYWAYS. On top of my terrible experience, I witnessed Professor Simon being utterly crass and disrespectful to students on various occasions. She mocks students names, calls out students in class for being one minute late, discourages students from asking questions in class, aggressively talks over students when asking a question/answering hers, etc. If these kinds of things do not affect your learning environment or you do not care, then Professor Simon is an okay option. However, I think she is very poor representation of OCOB, Cal Poly, and the state's budget.

Professor Simon is a completely unfair teacher. I liked the project itself, and I was really looking forward to taking my first marketing class. However, she makes it impossible to get an A. My group went to office hours every single week with Prof. Simon as well as asked our mentor for help EVERY single week before turning in each individual part of the quarter-long project, yet we consistently got C's and B's. Our group collectively probably spent 20 hours PER week on the PROJECT alone - not even including homework or online quizzes. We put in SO much effort and followed the "A" example every-time, as well as got her own feedback before we turned it in, yet somehow never got an A? This should show something about her teaching. She was nice as person, but completely unfair as a grader. Bummer. Don't take her unless you are okay with getting a B or below after every effort you can give and feeling extremely frustrated.

This is a great class and Dr. Simon is a great instructor. She cares greatly for the class and is always well prepared. It was the only class I looked forward to this quarter and the 2 hours flies by. The tests are fair and relatively easy if you know the study guide well. There are exercises which are pretty easy and a big project that takes a lot of time. But if you stay up with the work, there shouldn't be a problem. Simon is an excellent instructor for this course. Her motivation livens up the class, making her lectures very interesting. Her class is not one of those that she just straight lectures for the whole two hours; she invites the students to participate with their thoughts and ideas. The workload is alot, however, the projects and exercises that she assigns are actually alot of fun. We work in teams throughout the quarter, in which we must complete two reports on consumer behavior. One of the two has to be presented to class using PowerPoint and in a professional manner. Overall, I realy enjoyed taking this class. Simon made everyone feel comfortable to speak up in class. I would definately recommend her to others.

Lisa Simon seems like she would be a very nice person to have as an aunt or crazy neighbor, but she has no business teaching. At least not this class. Granted, it was her first time teaching it, but she copied and pasted everything from its previous professors Metcalf and Tietje, and it showed. She couldn't answer one question directly, instead providing us with answers such as "What would a marketing professional do in this situation?" I don't know, Lisa. Perhaps that's why I am taking this class and asking you this question. And for not being able to come up with one single straight answer to a question, she grades unfairly hard (although it's mostly on comma usage and "their" vs. "it" when referring to a business--not actual content). I'm convinced she's such a stickler for grammar because she doesn't actually know one thing about the subject. She also has an incredible incapability to deviate from Tietje's and Metcalf's instructions, rejecting synonyms for words because they weren't listed in the instructions. If you have to take her for this class, don't be too worried. Sometimes the workload can be kind of intense (lots of group work), but it's not really the class that's hard. It's having to listen to her ramble on about nothing for 4 hours a week. Good luck.

Don't take Simon if at all possible! She treats her students like children and is absolutely unbearable in lectures. Her grading is rubric based, which basically guarantees that everyone will get about the same grade (very few A's, lots of B's, some C's and no one will fail) which drives me nuts. Not that no one fails, but that you basically get carried up or dragged down by the group you are in. The subject is very interesting, but she takes it away with her ridiculous attitude and trivial subjectivity. If you have to take her, butter her up like a biscuit, and do all the reading because she has pop quizzes. No tests, just a big project.

Simon's was a terrible teacher. She taught the class like we were 3rd graders and spoke so condescending and disrespectful to the class that it insulted me as a person. So cannot take any criticism at all and responds by attacking your work or you and brushing off any comment. The class is filled with pointless busy work that she does not explain but demands very specific results. Her whole grading scale is based on a 4 point rubric, 3.8-4=A, 3.0-3.7 etc. an it is the worst rubric ever. She lays out what is needed for a 4, 3, 2, and 1 but most of the time they say the exact same thing. For one rubric all 6 of the explanations for the 4, 3, and 2 were word for word exactly the same. And then she asks you to grade yourself and yells at you later for giving yourself a 4 when all of the points on the rubric are the same, why would she expect you to give yourself anything less than a 4 for the same quality of work. Overall, unless you like a ton of busy work and enjoy kissing her fat butt, you will not enjoy this class.

Simon's class was my favorite class this quarter. I really enjoyed it because she only lectured for about half the class time then let us work on our projects in class. There is no midterm or final but there is a lot of projects which are all combined into a huge project at the end of the class. Simon sometimes talked to us like we were kids but I got over it because she actually let us "learn by doing" instead of just lecturing the whole time. She grades on a rubric scale which is useful because it is easy to know what she expects. If you want to be challenged and learn to research (which is what this class teaches) Simon is a great educator of this course.

I've never felt so strongly about a professor that I'd do something like write a review on PolyRatings. However, I care about my fellow Mustangs so it's important that you all are informed about Lisa Simon. Simon is the worst professor I have ever had, and probably will ever have. My friend was in her BUS 346 (Principles of Marketing) class for one day and dropped because she hated her so much. I was stuck with Simon for 10 weeks. In that time, I learned that the only way to succeed was to completely kiss her ass (she plays favorites like it's a game), which I did not do because she doesn't deserve it. She is completely unclear on all of her instructions and the rubrics are poorly outlined. It's like she's vague on purpose so she can mark you down if she doesn't like you. She goes off-topic and talks about trivial subjects/current events that gets the students riled up so that they'll talk to her. There was one lecture where she constantly brought up the weather instead of helping us with our project. She would check the weather every 5 minutes to see if the temperature had changed. The material, group work, and projects in this class are definitely hands-on so you learn a lot. But you learn ON YOUR OWN or with your group because Lisa Simon will not help you. Expect to be spoken to like a five-year old and be unfairly graded. She's a subjective grader who only takes the following criteria into consideration when scoring assignments: "Do I like this person?" "Are commas and apostrophes in the right place?" and "Did they use the word 'cheap'? Because I hate that." You cn be marked down anywhere from 3 to 20% for not fulfilling the aforementioned checklist or using terminology that she doesn't like ("cheap" "sufficient" "normally distributed" etc.) On one of my assignments, I got marked down 26% but she only included two comments as feedback. I had included a test subject's last name on accident (should be redacted to maintain anonymity) and I didn't elaborate on my concluding statement, even though I had already written TWO PAGES leading up to it. I worked my ass off to get a B. Get to know her pet peeves inside and out and avoid them like the plague. You won't pass this class without doing so. If you're thinking about taking any of her courses, do yourself a favor and DO NOT ENROLL IN HER CLASS IF YOU VALUE YOUR GRADES OR WANT TO KEEP YOUR SANITY.

I took Professor Simon\'s online course Fall 2010, thinking it would be nice to be able to handle a class on my own time. Her class ends up being a lot of busy work, and almost zero clarification as to what to do on the assignments. Maybe with a different professor there wouldn\'t be such a disconnect, but unfortunately there is going to be a serious gap between her expectations and your performance unless you go into her physical office hours, which pretty much misses the point of taking an online class in the first place. Hindsight is 20/20, and I would have much rather taken a different class with a physical meeting place if I had known that this would be the outcome.

Her grading process is subjective and indicative not of the level of knowledge you portray, but of how many commas you forgot to put in a sentence. I am sitting in this class right now and she is wining like a baby because she thinks it is funny. She will mark off points on your test for no apparent reason at all. I had simon for both 346 and 446 (International Marketing), and she genuinely is one of my favorite teachers I've had within OCOB. 346 was a bit of a trial-by-error class, as they were trying out a new class split, which I truly believe still needs to be worked on because I still hear there are issues with it, but I don't fault her for the issues of setup + material. 446 has been my favorite class I've taken, and I really recommend it to any marketing concentrations out there. It teaches you a LOT about international marketing, as well as reinforcing a lot of concepts from 346 that may have been glanced over in lecture, and the quarter-long project is really fun. A lot of this class is about what you put into it, and if you go in with a good mindset and are willing to talk in class, you'll love it.
