By far the best electrical engineering teacher at the university. Well prepared and sympathetic to students. Conveys material extremely well. Progresses through the course at a reasonable pace. Looking back, four years later, I consider Dr. Shaban a major reason I've been successful in Electrical Engineering.

Dr. Shaban was hard to get used to, since he has a funny accent. Once you got past that, it was an easy class to understand. I failed because I didn't put the right effort into it, if I had I am sure I would have aced it. His exams are short and simple, he let us use a sheet of notes on them, even the final. He didn't spend a lot of time on the stupid simple stuff like units and the SI, but got right into the course. His teaching ability isn't phenomenal, but I give him credit for being better than most EE professors I've had.

Dr. Shaban is a very good lecturer. He thoroughly covers all of the material that is on his weekly quizes. If you do the homework he assigns, this class is pretty easy. He likes to see his students do well so, if there is one particular quiz that the class does poorly on, he will give everone a chance to make up some of the lost points.

Dr. Shaban is a great professor. His lectures are clear and he is always willing to help you out. The only drawback is that he covers enough material per day to make your head spin sometimes. He is very open to questions and encourages students to ask him if they need help. His homework consists of 10-15 problems per week (3-4 of which are pretty challenging). His exams are very fair and somewhat easy to pass assuming you took the time to prepare. A great prof. through and through. Oh, by the way, be sure you know that the current through a capacitor is C dv/dt.

Prof. Shaban is a outstanding teacher. From what I hear, 211 and 212 are difficult courses, but Shaban explained the material very clearly. If you don't understand something, he is very useful during office hours. He lectures somewhat fast, but if you do the homework (collected), and otherwise keep up, its a pretty good chance for at least a B

Shaban is a boss. He is what every student should want as a professor. He clearly works out typical homework/midterm problems in class, offers extra credit and told us exactly what to expect on the exams. He seeks out questions from students and clears any fuzzy ideas. 10/10 will take again for EE 255.

Shaban is a fantastic professor and one of the best I've had so far. EE 211 has a lot to cover and Shaban manages to go through it all. He utilizes every single minute he has so expect to be learning from the minute the clock turns to 10 right until the o'clock. He explains everything very clearly and goes through derivations and explains how formulas form and then ties it all together with problems. His homework is not easy, but is EXCELLENT because that is the only way you're actually going to learn how to do these problems, and believe me, you will be a master at the end of them. He has homework every week that is basically all you need for the midterms. Shaban literally tells you what to study, so listen to him. And he lets you have a full page as a cheat sheet for each midterm and the final so there's no need for memorization of formulas. It's impossible not to learn in this class unless you cheat your way through the homework and the way he teaches, really simplifies would be difficult concepts. It is 100% possible to get an A in the class, highly highly highly recommend.

Don't know why this guy has such high ratings. He lectures very fast and doesn't speak too clearly. Nice guy and sometimes helpful in office hours, but definitely rips on you if you are a slow learner. He doesn't teach according to any textbook, so you HAVE to attend ALL classes and pay 100% attention if you want to even stand a chance.

Shaban is an excellent teacher who cares about his students. He will take time to make sure his students understand what's going on. With a great teacher comes challenging tests. Since there was only one midterm plus the final, there was no room for error. He gives practice exams will help a great deal. When it comes to the actual test, he will modify the circuit slighly to trick you. Do well on the quizzes and homework because they are a free 35% of your grade. I would take Shaban for any class he teaches.

Dr. Shaban is one of the best professors teaching EE courses. He is so dedicated to his students and his lectures are so thorough. He is an extremely gentle professor that doesn't scoff at you or make you feel like an idiot when you ask a simple question. His exams are extremely fair. DO THE HOMEWORK!! It will help you so much. His quizzes come from the homework problems...which he posts every solution to. So you can't fail any of the quizzes unless you don't study his posts. His practice exams are his exams with slight modifications. I would take any class that he is teaching!

Shaban is an excellent EE professor. I purposefully signed up for him again for EE325 this quarter because I liked having him for 212. His lectures are very straightforward, very easy to follow, and informative. He goes fast and you will take a lot of notes, but you won't have to teach it to yourself out of the book later. If someone asks question during lecture, he'll stop to explain a concept, and only occasionally gives a sigh or eyeroll if you ask something dumb. He tends to run late with his lectures, which was kind of annoying when you had a quiz and he only gives you 5 minutes for it. But the quizzes were pretty easy if you studied the homework. He posted homework solutions on Calpoly Blackboard, as well as occasional lecture notes. The midterm wasn't bad. This class covered a lot of material, so be prepared. It's not hard, just try to go to every lecture and keep up with the assignments.

his tests will make sure you know the concepts as the problems are nothing like the homework(like instead of being given Vs, you\'ll be given V across a branch/element)and usually you have to work backwards to get the answer. fair grader since 55-59 is a D, 60-65 is a C-, etc. definitely a hard teacher but also a great lecturer

I definitely recommend taking Professor Shaban for EE 212. His class style is very similar to Nafisi if you liked him as a professor. Shaban adjusts his grading scale (ex. 88%+ was an A) as some of the classes are difficult. I really liked him as a professor because he was fair, easy to approach with problems and always willing to give you another chance. He gives out 5 extra credit problems worth 1% each. DO THESE!!! They will help you boost your grade up at the end. They also show up on midterms and final exams. All his midterms were extremely fair and simple. They are not trick questions, but questions that make you think. The time crunch is what gets you on the midterms, otherwise, you should be able to pass them as long as you run through the textbook and pay attention to his lecture notes. Sometimes his notes have some discrepancy with the textbook so just ask him for clarification during office hours. He is a fair grader. He gave me back points on an exam after I pointed out I made a simple arithmetic error.

* Shaban is OG, especially when he has eye surgery and has to wear sunglasses in class, but that's beside the point. I took him for 211 and 212. He teaches well, and is very patient with his students, making the the class's understanding of the material his first priority. He even told us that, rather than giving the class a surface level understanding of a lot of material, he'd prefer not cover the last chapter of the material at all and instead solidify the class's handle on what material he could. Also, he's been teaching for a long time and knows his material by heart. Every once in a while, though, he'll make a mistake, and make the class laugh with his recovery comment (in his cool accent). He does move through the content kind of quickly sometimes, but he's very willing to help students learn. The midterms and the final are designed to keep the class at a reasonable average, and if the class does poorly on any of the tests he'll adjust the others to bring the average up again. Though he doesn't directly curve test grades, 5% of your total grade is available to be earned back through extra credit, and the overall class is curved to the extent that 63-67% is a C. Overall, Shaban is a fantastic professor, and one could only hope to be as dope as he is.

Shaban is a great professor! Very good lecturer, clearly knows the material well and moves through it at a good pace. Never rushes even when we fall behind. He has an accent, but it's easy to understand and sounds pretty cool tbh. You have a week and a half for each hw assignment which are from the old book which is kind of frustrating. The assignments are usually 6-9 problems and take about 2 hours if you know what you're doing. He graded pretty hard on the hw, but if you go look at his answer key, some of them are clearly wrong which can be annoying. Also gives a few extra credit take home problems throughout the quarter. Sometimes he gives you the circuit for these problems and forgets to tell you what to find lol. 2 midterms and a final. I didn't think the midterms were hard but I know the class didn't do that well. Tests are fairly similar to the hw. I don't think you'll find a better professor for this class than Shaban!

Shaban is without a doubt one of the very best professors in the EE department and probably on the entire campus. He has a slight accent that you don't even notice after the first day of lecture. Breaking it down, his course consists of only 1 midterm, quizzes which add up to equal the same points as 1 midterm, and homework is worth about 10% of your grade. His final was weighted 40% of the class, so it could make or break you. As an lecturer, he is the best I've ever had. However you will find yourself writing about 2 pages (front and back) worth of notes just about every day - which means that as long as you attend his lectures, you won't ever have to crack open the book except to get the homework problems out of them. Shaban's quizzes/midterm/final makes sure that you know your stuff and not just how to plug in numbers into equations, as he throws some tricky problems and curveballs that you've never seen before. Take him over any other professor, go to every one of his lectures, and you shouldn't have a problem pulling a good grade in his class.

I think Shaban is an extremely intelligent professor and in being so sometimes goes a little fast. I like his class structure with the several quizzes that count towards 25% of your grade, (make sure you take advatage of the take-home quizzes). Overall, he's a typical EE professor, more concerned with what you can copy from your "cheat-sheet", than what you've actually learned. (except for Perks, he's an above average EE teacher)

Dr. Shaban is a great instructor! He knows his materials very well and is able to convey it really great! His tests are straightforward and aren't tricky at all! However, you really can't afford to screw up because an A for him is 95% and above, A- is 90% - 05%. He gives you extra credit towards your midterms, but he doesn't curve and he doesn't round up the grade either. You'll learn a lot from him, and pluss 255 is a really easy class.

Shaban is THE MAN! Power is his specialty and it really shows. His notes posted online are exactly what he does in class, so print the out so you can pay attention and listen compared to just writing everything down. Shaban is a genius especially with the power related topics. I really enjoyed the class even with my grade. I learned a ton and I am happy I took him. His quizzes are the toughest part of this class IMO. He doesn't provide any formulas for the quizzes so you have to memorize the equations which kind of killed me on the quizzes. However, his midterm and final were reasonable. You got formula sheets for the two tests which already helps a ton. Shaban is also great at answering any kind of question no matter how weird it may be. He definitely got me interested in Power topics so there's a chance I'll be taking him in the future.

First of all, I was able to do well in the class without ever reading the book. His lectures were highly useful for doing homework and understanding material. As for midterms, he usually put a medium-difficulty to the hardest problem you had done (in class or homework, they are both pretty similar). There was no curve but he graded fairly and the midterm was reasonable. For labs, the lab final was hard since he said it was theoretical, but it is actually practical. I would say 90 % of the stuff on the final was calculations from previous labs, and only 10% theoretical questions. In labs if you asked him for help he would assist you in troubleshooting and fixing your circuit. He may be a spooky looking guy, but his intentions are always to help you. Overall besides the misleading information about the lab final, he is a great EE professor whose strengths include presenting material clearly and relevantly, as well as being able to communicate with students.

Shaban rocks. This is from the perspective of an ME so hopefully it will help some fellow ME's out. As a class we are required to take as a technical support elective AND being a core EE class, I was nervous going in since our only EE classes were survey classes tailored for ME's. Well Shaban not only made the material understandable but also really interesting and applicable. Even at 8 AM, I'd want to go to his lectures. And he is probably one of the most fair professors I've had-- his midterms and final have no curveballs, extremely similar to his in-class and HW problems. His grading scale only benefits you. AND he offers at least 4 extra credits that are extremely easy and are each worth +1% of your overall grade. So without question... take Shaban, you will not regret it.

Shaban was a great lab instructor. As most labs usually are in (in the EE department) the labs are ahead of the lecture material, so be prepared to sit and listen to anywhere between 1 to 1 1/2 hours of lecture before you even start the lab. Shaban requires his lab students to complete the labs and turn in the lab write-ups to him the very next day - which means that about 3/4 of the students finish the lab AND write-up in the lab period. This is a hard task to do, as I've only found myself leaving early from lab once (out of 7 labs) and staying the whole 3 hours the other times. He is extremely helpful in lab, checking your circuits for you and troubleshooting everything in case it doesn't work. Most of the lab is just take data, graph, answer questions, and do an analysis. He is pretty fair on the grading of the labs, as I went into the final with a 94%. However his final is VERY conceptual, so make sure you try to at least pay a little attention during the labs and make a good notesheet (he allows 1 page of notes front and back) for the final. To sum it up, Shaban is a great lab instructor and grades very fairly, but expect to spend all 3 hours (if not more) in the lab every week.

Dr. Shaban is a great professor. He handles the class material in a very straight-forward and systematic way. He will provide all the theoretical but will test you only on the practical. He doesn't assume that since you've already taken previous courses that you know 100% of that material. His board work begins at 'A' and finishes up at 'Z' which means that he doesn't skip steps and make jumps in his presentation of the material. There are many intelligent professors here but few who are intelligent and can actually teach. Dr. Shaban is one of the few. He sees and treats the students at though they are on his level----not beneath him. His office door is always open to any student for any course questions. Do the homework. There is a direct correlation between that and what you will find on his quizzes and tests. Homework load is approx. five questions a week.

About the Class: Shaban's class is made up of a midterm, a series of quizzes worth as much as the midterm, a final and about ten homework assignments. Because the quizzes are equal to the midterm it is important to do well on them. He does drop the lowest quiz. The midterm and final exams are challenging but straightforward. No trick questions or misleading problem statements. If you know the material then you will do well on the exams. In addition to the coursework, he offers extra credit that is incredibly valuable. Throughout the course, he offered three extra credit assignments which were worth 9 percentage points. That means when all is said and done after the final, if you have a 72% C- in the class, you will end up with a 81% B- On top of all this, we had a slight curve to our final grades. About the Instructor: Pros Without a doubt, Shaban is the best lecturers I have encountered here at CP. His lectures are outstanding and he presents the material very well. Unlike other instructors who simply can't teach their material, Shaban presents his material in a concise and straightforward manner that is easy to follow and understand.
