I enjoyed taking German with Dr. Rosenthal. I must admit, she teaches 101 like a 101 class should be taught. It was an elementary school atmosphere, and we all had to speak and write everytime we met. Don't get me wrong, it is not a cake course unless you have had German before. She is a very fun and energetic instructor who knows the language well.

Frau Rosenthal made the class fun and interesting. She almost always spoke German, and made sure the students got the fundamentals. The course work wasn't very difficult, and there were never any surprises on the tests. We watched several videos in class and also had to watch some short, childish films outside of class in the library. She is a great teacher, though.

The class was actually easier than I expected. We had videos to watch, audios to listen to and answer excercises. ("Listen several times if necessary"--it is VERY necessary). We had a few written excercises that we did at home like writing out our schedules in German, describing our room, etc. The tests were fill in, m.c. and short answer based on oral, listen and answer questions, numbers, overheads, etc. Vocab, and grammer. My one complaint is that we didn't seem to go over rules in class as much as I would have liked to, i-e verb conjugations, etc. We also had a Rollenspiel (dialog with a partner) the last week of class. Dr. Rosenthal is VERY nice, approachable and fair. Study and you will be fine, don't study and she will get upset with you. I highly reccomend this teacher for a beginning class.

Frau Rosenthal, as we call her, is a great teacher. Not only does she have a good sense of humor, but she makes the class interesting. She teaches you EXACTLY what you need to know for the tests. She goes over it all in class and won't throw you any curve balls on the test. The outside class movies are kind of corney, but I don't think that's her fault. Overall, she's a great teacher and she's why I'm continuing to take 103 next quarter, which she actually said she might not be teaching, but now is.

Frau Rosenthal, though with an imposing accent, is the least imposing professor on campus. Both in and out of class, she will always assist you in problems. The best part of taking her classes is watching her shut down the really annoying students, she has amazing wit. Even if you don't like language classes, everybody should take her just for fun.

Great German teacher. She is a funny and very understanding teacher. I was out sick for a few days when we were supposed to take a test and she let me into her office hours and was very understanding. The tests arent too hard and she really understands how to engage the class. I loved it just make sure to study hard!

Again, Frau Rosenthal was great. I would've loved to take another class with her, but I would have too many electives. If you are even slightly interested in German, wait for her 101 class to pop up and start taking them. She's a great teacher here at Cal Poly!

I figure for those who don't know German, I shouldn't type this in German. Dr. Rosenthal is very kind and FUNNY - something you most certainly weren't expecting. She is slightly on the picky side (German Literature), and she will correct every grammatical mistake you speak/write, so if you offend easily.... Lots of writing and class participation (she likes to call on people, so be prepared!).

Dr. Rosenthal is great! Her tests are not too difficult. They stay within the limits of what she teaches. She knows her languages. She is funny and very easy to approach. I liked that class because it introduced me to German literature which I had no clue about. You will be writing essays, watching movies, and lots of interactions. The movies I loved especially since I'm a great admirer of German culture.

Frau Rosenthal is a nice woman with good intentions, but she failed to present the information in a very interesting way. She would basically read her lectures. Otherwise the class was pretty easy and fair.

A class by Professor Rosenthal is an excellent choice for a GE elective. She has a unique style (and accent!) that makes that class interesting. Rosenthal selected a very interesting range of literature, and gives a knowledgeable presentation of the material. Unlike some other GE electives, she clearly wants to impart a level of understanding about the material without burdening students with excessive assignments. Her exams are not only very clear and concise, more or less directly from the assigned readings, but she grades them with a very liberal pen. In fact, any reasonable level of effort in the class (regular attendance and reading) will ensure a commensurable grade.
