STAT 100 is just the statistic major's orientation class where different statistics professors and staff came in. To get credit from her, you just needed to show up and do the homework, which was easy considering that Rebecca corrected it lightly. If it is not done correctly, then you were to redo the assignment and turn it in again. In general, this class was only an introduction to the field course. Rebecca chose well in who spoke to us in class. She was very upbeat just like a college student, but the speakers did most of the talking in this class. Looks like I am willing to have her for a class in the future as a major in stats.

Missed the first day, went to the second day. Went to the midterm. Went to the Final. Three days of class total. I got a B, easy. This kind of shit gives our school a bad name.

Rebecca is a gifted math teacher who obviously cares a great deal for her students. She knows statistics inside and out, and makes it as relevant and accessible as possible. Do the homework, study for the midterms, and you will be fine. I HIGHLY recommend taking statistics from her if you have the chance! You won't regret it! She's awesome!

Ottesen is a great professor to have if you are taking statistics for the first time. Her love and enthusiasm for the subject will almost distract you from how boring the material is (It is TRULY boring). The material isn't very hard, but there is so much to remember that it can be a bit overwhealming. Luckily she goes over everything very clearly, and is extremely willing to help people out, and wants you to excell in the class. She encourages people to go to her office hours, and gets almost upset if people don't show up to them. She is also funny because she makes fun of herself for being a statistics nerd, which puts the course in perspective. The one thing to watch out for in this class is homework. She has her TA's grade the homework and they grade so hard that it really got to be extremely annoying. Also, minitab is a program that is useless in my mind and is hard to use, so make sure you know how to use it.

The first few weeks of class, I was certain she was a lesbian, even after mentioning her "husband." She covered an obscene amount of material that I will never use again. I told her I loved her, and she said, "Quit following me to my car!" But seriously, she needs new pants. It looks like she has a cock. Shes smart and presented the material well, but she was hard.

Mrs. Ottesen is one of the best teachers that I have ever had at Cal Poly. She presents the material you need to know in a good manner to the class. She loves statistics and is very enthusiastic about teaching. Homework is given every week, but she goes over almost every problem in class and although I never went to office hours, I heard she is very helpful and friendly. If you go to class and study the notes and practice exams you should be succesful in this course. I highly reccomend her!

Rebecca Ottesen was an awesome teacher. Her lectures are VERY intimidating but don't be scared off. She is an approachable professor and is willing to help whenever needed. The class is demanding and requires a lot so, don't miss lectures. If you miss one you will feel lost for the rest of the quarter. Her tests are hard but fair. Study the notes and homework assignments and you will do fine. She offers opportunities for "extra credit" but you have to earn them. Homework assignments are worth a ton of points so do your homework, it is worth a large portion of your grade. I would recommend her to anyone who has to take Stats.

She's a good professor and does a decent presentation of a lot of material to be covered. It is all on power point. But go to class if you want to survive this class. I went into this course already have taken Stats and AP Stats in high school and only did ok on the first test because she is picky about wording. She lets you use cheat sheets for each test which is a really good thing! I would say that the tests are fair and that her grading is fair but picky so use her office hours to learn her style. by the way, she collects HW. I recommend taking her.

Becky is a really nice teacher, and will help you a lot if you go in to her office hours, but if you aren't strong in math, it will be a struggle. All the lectures are on powerpoint, so you never get to try anything on your own to make sure you really understand. Her tests are really hard, she makes you try to figure out what the question is asking rather than just asking the question plain and simple. I do not reccomend taking her.

Rebecca is one of the best professors I have had at Cal Poly and I would recommend her to anyone. She presents the material very well, and is always willing to help. If you go to her office hours you can even go over your homework before its due. She collects the homework and there are quizzes. The two midterms and the final are well written and fair and she holds review sessions before each one for your benefit. If you have to take Stat 251 take it with Rebecca.

Rebecca is one of the best professors i have ever had. her lectures are very understandable, plus she gives you notes to printout from the internet that make it even more simple. i regret not studying hard for my first two tests, and i ended up with a C. I barely passed stat 251, but i think this course was much easier. oh yeah, and if you are a guy, be careful not to fall in love with her! she's married!

Rebecca was a great professor for this subject. She was very helpful and was able to explain stats fully to the students. She also provided handouts to us and asked for class input on certain subjects. This is not an easy class, but her teaching style makes it easier to learn and become interested in statistics. If you have to take statistics then this is the only professor to take.

This class was by no means "easy." Both the midterms are quite difficult. However the final wasn't that hard. Rebecca is an awesome teacher. She does her best to make a boring subject like stats as interesting as possible. Rebecca is always willing to help struggling students in and outside of class. She's definitely one of the best professors i've had so far. And she's cute!

I dont know how these students thought that Rebecca was the greatest prof. Her test questions are completely different than those from homework or her "review" sheet. Her "review" sheet would have questions like those on homework and then when test time comes, surprise! questions you've never seen before. I guess some people can just get it, but i couldnt, not with the way she taught the class. Rebecca is a cool teacher but her way of teaching isnt the greatest.

rebecca's a good instructor becasue she posted the notes for the class on the web and her notes were way better than the text book. she assigns weekly homework, and gives us quizzes on the material so we can keep up w/ her. the bad thing is that she talks really fast and sometimes she lags on posting the notes on the web.

Rebecca was a great Stat teacher. She really cared about the students and what she was teaching. She was always willing to help and remembered what it was like to be a college student. She understood what we were going through and always wanted to help.

Becky is an awesome young professor. She knows SAS so much because she uses it for her job at the City of Hope Hospital. She has been a longtime SAS user so she knows all the essentials of this computer program. The biggest problem is that she does have bad handwriting, but everything is on Powerpoint slides so that saves us from having to see Beck writing everything. Everything you need to know is in her website and you can print out lecture notes so that you need not to write anything. Every Monday is a groupwork assignment where a randomly selected group leader teaches some material. Every Wednesday is a quiz, which has trick questions, so you better watch out. You have 3 projects instead of exams where you work in groups. The breakdown is this: 10% for groupwork, 25% for quizes, 15% for programming assignments, 15% for projects 1 and 3, and 20% for project 2 and its presentation. During class, she has us try different programs to help us understand the material. She is also extremely helpful through e-mail, so if you have any problems, she will give you some helpful tips on how to complete the assignments. Overall, a great teacher. Points out everything clearly. Just watch out on the quizes, which is the worst part of the class.

Take this class with Becky because she knows everything about stats and statistical computing that you need to know. Workload is pretty heavy as she assigns lots of stuff in the homeworks, but very reasonable. Her lectures are presented well on Powerpoint slide and also on her website so that you can print them out. If you need any help on your assignments, she is there to answer e-mail almost instantly after you send it. Another big plus is that Becky is very sociable and wants to know each of her students individually.

You learn a lot in this class, but be warned that it’s a ton of work. If you have never taken a programming class before, I would try something else. You are learning so much so fast at the beginning of the quarter that it is sometimes hard to keep up, then you have hit with a midterm, and then your first huge project with a partner (ours turned out to be about 1000 lines of code that we worked on at least 2 hours a day for two weeks straight). There is a little lull, but then you have a second project that takes up just as much time as the first, but this time when you are trying to study for finals. We would have never gotten ours done had we not had some experienced programmers in our group that took it on their shoulders to help the rest of the group out. While the material is difficult and time consuming, Ottesen is a really nice person and whatever she may lack in teaching skill, she more than makes up for it in knowledge of SAS, making herself available during office hours (scheduled or not), over email, etc. She is always willing to point you in the right direction and maybe even write a little code for you to get you started. If you absolutely have to take 330, expect a lot of work, but Ottesen is great if you can get her.

Don\'t be fooled: this is a programming course. If you\'ve never taken a programming course before, 330 can be rough. However, Ottesen will never make you feel dumb and she\'ll go out of her way to help you. It\'s going to be a lot of work if you, but you could email her at 1am you could possibly get a response within minutes. She\'s not easy, but she gives you every opportunity to learn if you try.

The HW can be tedious at times, the midterm was super difficult, and the project was the epitome of time-consuming; however, Rebecca is an extremely good teacher. She teaches a lot of material in a short amount of time, but will go out of her way to explain things as needed. Take advantage of her office hours, because they are very, very helpful. I have never taken a programming class before, but I found myself picking up the syntax pretty quickly. If you have to take 330, definitely take it with Rebecca.
