I had her for lab, and her tests were very difficult. She knows the material she is presenting, but does not show any emphasis on her students learning it. She leaves during labs, so if someone has a question they can't get help. She writes her tests on very specific information to try to trick us because each test is over an enormous amount of material. No one in the class enjoys it, and almost everybody leaves lab an hour or two early.

Do not take this class! It takes her about 20 minutes to go over the materials, then she leaves the class. She does not curve. If you have any questions DO NOT take this class because she will not be there to answer them. She knows the material really well, but she does not explain it well enough for the class to understand.

I had heard a lot of stories about Dr. Ortiz before going through her class. I must say...some of the stories were true. She does leave sometime during lab for several minutes. This can be annoying, because often you have questions and she isn't there...however!, she knows her biology and she knows how to teach it. If you give her the respect she wants, then she will treat you well. Show her that you care about the subject and she will think highly of you. She doesn't waste a bit of time with those childish students who would rather sit in their chairs and spin around during her lab intro. She will not tolerate it. Don't try her. She is a good professor...take the time to learn the material...show her you care...and you will do well.

She knows her stuff, but too bad she doesn't stay around to share. She would give the class a handout, read off it, then leave. Very frustrating when you're trying to disect an animal and memorize it's circulatory system. She even left town after the final and wasn't around to correct mis graded tests. Who wants to pay tuition for a class whose teacher isn't there?

do not take her...but if you have to...it is still possible to get an A...just work really hard, ask her questions like "what off of this page will be on the test?" "what do i need to know for the exam", she'll be annoyed with you by the end of the quarter but who cares. the woman leaves for hours at a time, no where to be found, and what out for those fake eyelashes!!! anyway...good luck...study study study...study stuff that you don't think you need to know its all on the exam

Dr. Ortiz seems like a nice enough lady until you need help. She leaves the lab for long periods of time. I thought I'd counter this by writing down my questions, then asking her when she came back. She answered the first one, showing me where the part was located, and tried to rush off, when I fired question two. She seemed annoyed at the fact that a student caught on to her lenghty and frequent disappearances and the fact I decided to show some initiative. She answered question 2 before hastily rushing off, extremely P.O.'d. I never got her to clarify where to find the other parts. In short: don't take Ortiz if you can help it.

I learned that if I were to take up hunting, I should shoot deer, not bears, because a bear will hunt me back if I successfully wound it. Fascinating! I didnt know that the key to production and operations management was so brutally simple!
