Dr. Moody tries to do a good job of teaching the class. She tries to get the students involved, but the material that is presented is pretty boring, she does try to add some humor though.

First off, Soil Science is one of the most boring classes I have ever taken in my entire life. I wouldn't wish this class on my worst enemy. This said, she doesn't make it any better. She likes to joke about how many people fail the class and makes a point the first day of class to ask how many people currently enrolled failed the class before. This isn't a good thing to start out a class with and that is just the begining. She doesn't present the material in a clear manner and has the worst course suppliment I have ever gotten from Second Edition. The other profesors in who teach this class I hear are not much different but I took my lab section with Dingus and he was very helpful and sounded like he actually wanted to see you pass the class. Moody seems to take much more joy in how many people she can get away with failing before the college comes knocking on her door to ask what is wrong. (Though Cal Poly is more concerned with classes that show people succeding rather than failing.)

I had Dr. Moody for lab and it was horrible. She first off took forever to explain the lab for that day. Her lab tests were hard. She graded lab assignments very hard too. We spent nearly the whole 3 hours in lab. I had Dr. Hallock for lecture and if it would have fit into my schedule, I would have had him for lab as well. So my advice to you, don't take Dr. Moody for lab, take Hallock.

Dr. Moody is one of those teachers that is very hard to explain. From the very first day of class, you are able to see that she doesn't know up from down. She is very willing to help answer any questions in her office hours even if you are not in her lab. Sometimes she can give you the wrong advice though and the grader will mark it wrong (be careful of that). She did not rush through the lecture and went over the hard subject areas really well. When it came to her tests, they were 3 times harder than the lecture supplement. I wouldn't recommend it even buying the supplement or the book for that matter. All of her tests are right off her notes and the lab. Study the labs!!!! She takes questions from that area also and puts it on her tests. Her tests are no joke so study every detail you can possibley imagine. Good luck...

Moody is a very quirky professor. But don't get me wrong, I like quirky people. She's much more exciting than many of the other cloned professors. I find Professor Moody very interesting. Although she's often completely off the wall, she knows dirt. She has quite a lot of knowledge and will actually try and teach you about it. Its whether you pay attention is the key. He class actually is not that hard to get an A or B in. I merely failed to study for two of the three tests. Before the final I went to a study session that she taught and much of what she went over was (basically) word-for-word on the final. I know for sure that I passed the final (which probably helped my grade to C). Take notes during the lecture and study those and you should be fine.

Soil Science 121 was an... interesting class. I never really thought that soil could be so extensive and uninteresting (probably just esoteric) at the same time. I found lecture to be numbing. I found myself not going to most of the lectures and just getting people to let me copy their notes. With a few hours of studying before each midterm and going to the study session before the final (where she reviews a previous final), I found the class to be not that difficult. She will be glad to clear up any confusion that you have and she does care about how a student does if the student shows concern. I also recommend Rice for the lab -- he's good and his quizzes are easy.

Moody rocks. I went in totally afraid of this class because it's reputation. I came out of this class actually considering changing my major to soil science (I'm not going to though). She's so easy going, and is really easy to follow. She's fun and likes to make jokes. She gives pop quizzes, so keep up on the material. The material really isn't that bad, just don't slack off. If you can, take the workshop too, it was a ton of fun and it really helped. I probably held one of the highest grades in the class for over 2/3 of the quarter, (then i slacked a little, and lab didn't help). Anyways, if you can get her, you're in. I didn't know a thing about dirt before, but now I know a lot and i like it. It's fun and so cool. Oh, and you really don't have to worry about the book much, it didn't help me at all.

Dr. moody seems like she would like to help her students but I think she may be bias tours some individuals. Could even be racist you could say. But that depends on your own opinion. The only thing are her lectures bounce from one topic to other than back to the same topic. Just try to fellow closely. Other then that she's not too bad. Good Luck

It wasn't too hard of a class, she takes almost all of her questions from lecture notes so go to lecture and you will be fine.

Dr. Moody is a great professor. I have only had her for my intro into earth science so far but I can't wait to have her again. She has a great sense of humor and likes to get to know each and everyone of her students, and remembers specifically what they are interested in. she provided great notes and her lectures were very interesting.

Moody is a really nice professor. She is very enthusiastic about the material. She teaches through powerpoint. There is a quiz every week. 8 quizzes count towards your grade, if you take the 9th quiz it is extra credit. Count on taking all 9, you'll need it. The first quiz is pretty easy, after that, some of the questions asked for some very specific points and vocabulary. Make sure you read the book, there are always a couple questions on the quiz from the reading. Just study the notes and read the book, if you can't memorize things easily like me, read the book twice and/or make flash cards. The final was just quiz questions and a couple more. Get the correct answers to the quiz and study them until you know the answers and the final won't take you more than 40 minutes. Moody makes geology fun and easy. Your grade is based on 8 quizzes and 1 final, no homework. You just need to study thursday night before the quiz or friday morning.

She is amazingly enthused by all things rocks, maybe a bit too much for her own good, but it helps to keep the class awake. She is very knowledgeable and friendly.

Dr. Moody is a chillster. If you\'re one of those folks that enjoys skipping class, this is probably the class for you. There are no midterms or quizzes, just mini-midterms every friday. They\'re worth 40 points each. Mostly the questions are from her lecture slides which you can print from online. I never reallly read the book. The final however does have keyterms from the book, which could come in handy. Take Moody. It\'s chill.

Prof Moody was great. She explained everything well and all her grading was straight forward. One quiz a week every friday and a final at the end. No curving, but she is very clear while teaching, so you\'ll do fine as long as you pay attention in class. Really nice lady too.

Dr. Moody was great for Physical Geology. Midterms can have some surprise questions, but they are very fair exams for the most part. She is great to talk to and will remember you.

Professor Moody is a very relaxed professor. She is also entertainingly awkward sometimes. Quizzes once a week, every Friday with some exceptions. Lowest quiz grade is dropped at end of quarter. She has study questions online which are almost exactly like her quizzes. The only reason you should go to class is to see how far she got in the lecture before the quiz so you know what to study from her study questions. Study her online questions, make flash-cards and memorize them, and you do great in her class. One midterm, one final. I never read the book, you don't really need it. You don't need to buy the Geology book that is required, I never opened it.

This class was extremely difficult for me, but that had everything to do with the material NOT the teacher. She is wonderful, she presents material clearly, is very good at clarifying any questions you might have, and is in general just a very pleasant person to be around. My only suggestions: start studying for quizzes 2 days before, sounds like over-kill but it not only gets you a good grade on the quiz, but when it comes time for the midterm that information comes back quickly, and turns into just review. And when she says 'read the book' READ THE BOOK, most of it is review from lecture notes, but she sometimes pulls questions out of there.

Moody manages to add humor and teach geology well. Her final took less than an hour and was mainly vocab. In fact, her quizzes are all about just knowing vocabulary. If you really put the effort in, you can definitely get a B, if not an A. Take Moody for Geology!

Dr. Moody reminds me of the teacher from the magic school bus series back as a kid. She is awesome. Straitforward, easy to understand, organized presentations. If I were to say anything bad, it would be that tests can sometimes be not that representative of all the material covered prior to it, but to her credit Rocks and Minerals has a boatload of material in it, and we only have 50 minutes to take a test. I would highly recommend Dr. Moody.

Rocks and Minerals was a great class taught by an excellent professor. Dr. Moody presented the material very clearly and was always eager to answer questions. I liked how she did the lab; she presented the rocks we were to study and then answered questions. Lab quizzes were hard and I thought they would drag me down, but I was pleasantly surprised with my overall grade. Dr. Moody is knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and challenging, but reasonable. Take her if you can.

I thought this was a really tough class, that being said, Dr. Moody makes the class a lot easier than it could be. She really does want people to succeed but don't expect any handouts. Dr. Moody is always more than willing to go into the lab with you and explain whatever concept for as long as it takes until you understand it. Expect to be going to lab in your free time to study the rocks and minerals, thats just the way this class is, very lab intensive. Although most people taking this class probably won't have a choice so you had better deal with it. I don't know why Dr. Moody has such a low rating as she is very friendly and helpful.

I loved this class. But on the other hand this class will eat all of your free time and that doesn't mean you will get the grade that you wanted. I really like Moody she is one of the coolest and most interesting teachers. SO there will there will be four lab quizes and there will be 1 midterm and 1 final. All of them are hard but passable. There is more material then you will ever learn. Also if you get a really thick brown book do not read it in depth or your head will pop plus you don't need all the details that are in that thing. It is interesting but way over your head all at the same time. But Moody is more then willing to help but her schedule is full so don't waist her time.

Dr. Moody is so willing to help her students. All you have to do is show up to class because BELIEVE ME SHE NOTICES IF YOU ARE NOT THERE, and go to her office for help. If you do the study guides and go to her office for exam pointers she pretty much tells you whats going to be on the test. Common people. Its not brain surgery. Its flipping rocks.

Professor Moody rules. She is very clear and direct about what material she wants you to extract from lecture and lab. She cares a lot about her students. Her tests may be long, but if you devote enough time to them, they are pretty easy. This class is part of my minor, so had I spent more time memorizing chemical formulas instead of stressing over engineering, I would have an A, for sure. She lectures from powerpoints, but they will not put you to sleep because much of the meaningful information is written on the board. No homework.

Dr. Moody is too smart for her own good. She knows the information she is teaching like the back of her hand but cannot convey it to her students. (ex. If an entire class' average is a D, wouldn't the teacher realize he/she is doing something wrong???) She is a nice lady, but needs to go take some teaching seminars. My advice to anyone looking to take her class, DON'T!!!

Moody is a HOOT. I honestly don't know how else to say it. She is totally Ms Frizzle from the Magic School Bus. She is kind of spacey and her tests were pretty specific, but she posted all of her old tests on blackboard and reused a lot of the questions. Soil Morph is a really fun class! As long as you can get excited about soils with her, Moody will like you and want you to succeed, but definitely take a proactive approach. Make sure you really KNOW the material, sadly, a lot of that means memorizing long names that can be kind of confusing at first. The class has a really quick learning curve . I heard Moody is harder than the others who teach 321, but I wouldn't take it with anyone else, I learned so much!

Loved Moody! The reviews below describe her well also! Soil Morph is one of the funnest classes I have taken at cal poly. Moody is a great teacher, shes down to earth and is willing to hear your questions whenever. I had her for both Soil Morph and Rocks & Minerals. Both classes are very hands on and in lab it is up to you to ask questions and make sure you know what you are doing, but she is very happy to help if you just ask! Overall great professor and challenging but excellent class.

A total degenerate piece of garbage. This lady deserves to be decomposing in her own dirt. Glad to see she is leaving the degenerate institution we call Cal Poly. Have a terrible retirement.
