After the first few days of class i thought that i was going to fail.. All the info seemed very overwhelming when Dr. Montecalvo was explaining it. I was so worried about the first test but when it finnally happened- it was so easy. i got a 99% and he always has extra credit on the tests that everyone basically knows. The lab final was oa little hard, but his other four test werent. They were mostly fill in the blanks and a fewe multiple choice. Dr. Montecalvo has a good sense of humor, his laugh is that of a heavy smokers which at first bothered me, but you get used to it. Overall he is a good teacher who cares about his students and he is always there if you need help.

Coming into this class, I was expecting it to be a lot harder than it is..There is a lot of information to know, but the information is quite interesting.. The labs are fun, (we actually made peanut butter!) And the midterms were not bad at all. There were 3 midterms total, and a lab final. If you averaged an average of 91% on the midterms, you don't have to take the final. The tests consisted of fill in and short answers..All in all, he's a very funny and helpful guy! I never had a problem talking to him about anything. I definitely recommend taking him for any FSN class!

he is a bit weird but he definately covers the materials and the tests are way easy especially after he makes them sound incredibly hard.

The material is interesting enough and Montecalvo has some cool stories, but at 8 am this class was hard to stay awake through. His tests come straight from the lecture manual and are fairly straight forward. If you have above a 93% heading into the final you dont have to take it. Which is cool but his final was a joke. 50 true/false that didnt really apply to the course then an easy fill in the blank section.

He is a really nice professor. His test are easy if you memorize all the lecture notes that he want over in class, but the key is memorize. His test are not multiple choice they are fill in but if you study they are really easy and take about 20 minutes. I thought he was a good easy going teacher oh and he use to let us half an hour early every day. Good teacher take him oh and the work load is not bad I studied about four hours before each test and the only reason I got a B was because I got a D on the first test because I didnt know you had to memorize his lecture notes. And if he has any lists of things in his lecture note they are almost for sure going to be on the test so make sure you memorize all lists.

Montecalvo's class is at times entirely too easy to ditch because everything is covered in the lecture notes. Besides that, i found myself very intrigued by the subject and his presentation of it is exciting and ineresting. He's a very caring professor and he genuinely tried to get to know all of us, i look forward to more classes with him... test are extremely easy if you put forth the effort to study.

dr. montecalvo is an excellant teacher. he presents the material very clearly and hes a really funny person. he makes lecture interesting and entertaining. the only hw was labs. he grades fairly. if u show effort u will get full credit. tests were only abt 10 ?s and ea worth 10 pts. so u need to memorize EVERYTHING from lec. marketing survey was boring and time consuming but its graded easy

Just remember that everything on the test is sraight outthe lecture notes that you have to buy. Remeber Lists and like examples or a small detail of each major item in the list. If he says listen up or this is important its pretty much him telling you its going to be on the test. If you dont study at least 2 hours for each test, you probably will not get above a B on them.

Good old Montecalvo... he's been in the food industry forever, so he knows exactly what he's talking about. Go to the class, highlight the information he tells you is important, and take the tests. It's cake. Oh, and if you get an A on the midterms, you don't have to take the final. It's easy to do, but most people don't put in any effort since it's an intro course. If you don't do well, hello, welcome to college- you should feel like an idiot.

He is a good teacher but his notes are in a book and all the test questions are from it. he also will not make you take the final if you get an 92 in the class. he tells a lot of stories but they are interesting the first time

The most important part of this class is the note's book you buy at the beginning of the quarter. Every quiz and test answer comes straight from the note's book. You hardly have to take many additional notes. The lab part of the section is a bit harder, first project is an 80-100 page project very tedious and seemed a bit pointless to me and I am a food science major! Great guy, I came to every lecture and did fine. Class is interesting learn a lot lots of guest speakers which made the class pretty interesting.

Montecalvos a little weird. He has a funny lisp and wears the same vest to the lab every week. But he\'s a really easy lab professor. My group split up the report and stopped meeting during the last few labs to put it together but we still got 9s and 10s on them. So if he says don\'t split it up just do it. Unless you have some dumb kid in your group that you don\'t trust. He\'s pretty approachable and 2/5 times get out of the lab within an hour and a half (which, of course, everyone loves). I recommend him

Montecalvo is like the chillest professor there is - he still uses overhead projectors which is hilarious. He's super knowledgeable and easy to talk to in lab, and most of the time we got out of lab within 2 hours. Split up the reports! It saves so much time.

Dr. Montecalvo is a great guy and a great teacher. This is the second course I've gotten to take from him and I really enjoyed it. I came into this class scared that I wouldn't do well, but I did and I even enjoyed what I learned. You take about 5 quizzes, and you do a big project and then a final. Though you don't have to take the final if you have a 92% before it's given. I had to take it, I had an 89%, but then I took that final, and bumped my grade up to an A. Great class, great teacher, really cool information. I highly reccomend the class and the teacher. Montecalvo rocks and he's always willing to help you out.

Montecalvo is a goofy guy. He keeps his classes short and they are straight forward, you just need to memorize the material he goes over for tests. There would be 50 true/false questions and about 4 of them would be false, so the first test throws you off a little.

Nice guy. His tests are straight forward. Make sure you highlight we he says that will be on the test, because they will. Go over all the material he talks about, even recognize the pesticides and rodents. For his T/F portion of the tests are majority True.

Montecalvo is a cool guy no doubt, but then again I think all Italians are. No, really, he's cool. The class is somewhat difficult, you really have to be able to memorize. His tests are pretty straight forward. About half of the test is T/F with like only 4 Falses, then there's like 1/4 of matching and some fill in the blank or short answer, they're really not so bad though. Take it from someone who has no memorizing skills, this class isn't too bad. It's even kinda intersting. You'll learn a lot. Don't get to discouraged when you look at/buy the book for the class. It's a huge book, but you really don't go over it all. Overall, this is a pretty cool class, just know you're gonna be doing a lot of memorizing and don't try and get 25 True and 25 False's on the test, he likes the True's. Good luck.

Dr. Montecalvo is an enthusiastic teacher. He knows his stuff and will usually throw in random stories of when he was in his frat in college or just industry related stories. He is funny but sometimes tries too hard to be funny. He is helpful in answering question if you can formulate it in a way that is clear. His tests are pretty easy. You need to take notes in this class bec his test quest. are based on specific info given during lectures. I would take another one of his classes. I have already taked two.

In Dr. M's lectures, I always feel so overwhelmed sometimes, because there's so much information!! But, if you keep on top of it, and study EVERYTHING for the tests, you should be fine!! I did flashcards all the time.. and it totally helped me! As long as you pull that 91% average on all your tests, you dont have to take the final.. we had 3 midterms, and a plant evaluation paper that we turned in as a group..

This was the new Organics Processing class. It was an experimental class (the first time it had been offered), and the course material reflected such. It felt like an experimental class for every minute that I was in there -- lack of organization and lots of vagueness in the notes. You kinda have to go to class on this one because his overhead notes are totally incomprehensible unless you go to class. (really vague) THis guy LOVES to give hand-outs. Buy a large binder. His lectures are so hard to follow because he takes so many tangeants and does not really follow one thought for very long. It was frustrating. He is a fair grader though, and we did not have a final - just a very simple opinion statement. It was nice. He is passionate about the field, so that was nice, and very professioanlly experienced. Not a bad experience, it was an easy class, but a little frustrating to sit through his lectures.

Okay, I gotta admit, Dr. Howell is very passionate about what he is doing, and he does have a lot to say about the material. The only problem? No one in class understood what the hell he was saying or talking about. He would go off in class about the books we would be reading (there was a total of 5 books we read). Most of us sat there, clueless to what he was saying..(only about 2 people in class actually understood what he was saying). His grading system..to this day, I still don't understand. Even in office hours, I'm sometimes clueless. After every class session..(it dragged on and on..all of us would walk out..trying to make sense of what he was saying!! He never had a problem meeting with the students, or working around our schedules, which was cool. All I wanted to do was to pass my GWR! There were a few opportunities to pass, though, which was also good. But all in all, I suggest taking someone else.

Montecalvo is a great professor because he knows just about everything in the industry. He's a little awkward to get used to at first, but once you realize how he lectures, taking notes gets easier. There is a textbook, a lab manual, and then a course pack for this class which is thicker than the textbook. You can survive without the course pack, but it really helps so you don't have to draw or write down everything. Lab is simple and fun, and if he gets sick, both lab and class will be cancelled frequently. There is NO LAB the FIRST week if it is before lecture. He doesn't email you or anything, so save your time. Montecalvo is very accomadating when it comes to personal circumstances, so just talk to him, he's willing to work with you. He enjoys talking after class, and you can actually get more useful information out of him that way. There are four *detailed* but fair quizzes, and if you have a 92% in the class going in to the final, you can skip it. Overall a very useful and informative class, with a very cool guy. :)
