super nice, and MADE CLASS RELATIVELY SIMPLE, but there's lots of other better professors. he is really really old can hardly hear him, can hardly understand him, BUT EASY TO GET A B. his lectures will drive you insane as it takes him forever to to do a problem. final optional, homework not collected, NO MIDTERMS, GRADE COMES FROM EASY WEEKLY QUIZZES, but if you have to take the next class ee321, dont take him, you wont learn very much.

Be very cautious with this guy. I took him in EE211 and i did fine, understood the material pretty well, but i was a tad weak on the differential equations. I did my homework every week, and came to all tests and quizzes. But Meng has a really personalized style of grading. if he thinks that you dont deserve credit for a problem (regardless of correctness) he'll flat out give you a zero. I learn from the book a lot better than from professors, usually, and more so with Meng because he speaks into the chalkboard, he talks very softly, and he tends to mumble things out. By far, he has to be the most challenging teacher to understand. but whatever you do, even if his lectures are torture, go to them, and dont ask questions. I went less often because reading the book was far easier than listening to him. But that got me on his bad side. From then on, it was zero credit for anything i turned in. (no, i'm not shitting you). absolutely zero credit from then on. I flunked out of his class with about 20% in the course, and until that day, i had never gotten even a C in anything. Avoid this teacher like the plague, because he's a serious danger to your grade.

Hated this professor. His tests were horrible and he couldn't teach at all. Take someone else if you can.

He can be difficult to understand in lecture, and has trouble answering questions... but his presentation is straightforward, if you can follow the math. The book is also mighty helpful. However, if you can't learn from a book, I'd suggest another professor

Meng is hilarious, very helpful in office hours and a very fair tester. The hardest part of his tests are how he asks for definitions. But he is lenient with accepting answers to them. he isn't only looking for the textbook definition. I have no problem recommending meng for this class.

Well . . first of all I'm not doing too well in the class, so let me be the first to admit this may be biased, but here are the facts: 1st midterm, about a quarter of the class got A/B's, a quarter F's, and half C/D's, avg ~71. 2nd midterm, about a third got 40 or less, a third got 70 or higher, and the rest got 50/60, avg ~56. So whether or not he is a fair grader is up to you. IMO: He doesn't seem to give too much partial credit on stuff. His lectures resemble writing down equations and deriving them using a lot of math, but he doesn't seem to explain what the equations actually MEAN. He does give a few examples, but I would like him to give harder and more in depth examples. He emphasizes learning the conceputal stuff, and I agree with that, but I would personally like to see more examples on APPLYING the concepts to problems. There are some people in the class who do well in the class, and I give them props, but there is a high failure rate as well. Overall, I am sorry to say I can not recommend this teacher and would advise on avoiding this teacher unless you are very strong in this subject.

Dr. Meng is man who has been teaching this class way too long. He is a prick. He hates when people ask questions, and he tries even harder to kick you out of your office than Dr. Sun does. He is satisfied with a 52.9 average on a midterm and applies no curve. Hey Meng, if your reading this, "Lick Some Hairy Ass with poop on it beeaaatch"

Meng is such a tool. He hates to be asked questions or debated with what-so-ever. Avoid this asshole like a new plague has come out. Luckily I am getting by, but I feel really sorry for people who don't have his old tests. STAY AWAY FROM THE MENG.

This guy was so wierd..he had two personalities. Often he'd just start laughing and make jokes while he was lecturing, and he seemed pleasent enough. Then, someone would make the mistake of questioning something he said and they would get a good going over in "engrish". Test averages were 71% and 55% (averages were low because he'd ask for definitions on tests and give no partial credit). If it wasn't for his accent, it might have been a better experience on the whole, but I don't think I'd reccomend this guy.

Let me start off by stating that all these EE complaining about Meng's classes need to get the hell out of EE. All of you are lazy because if you would just read the book and learn the concepts the test problems are straightforward. I am willing to bet that the same people who are complaining about Meng's EE 334 are the same people that did shitty in physics 133. This stuff is essentially electromagnetic physics and in these type of courses there are a hand full of concepts and an infinite amount of equations. It is therefore important to learn the concepts so that you know how to interpret the equations and use them. Meng ask for definitions on his test with the intent of forcing you to understand the concepts and not just plug and chug because believe me if you don't understand the concepts you will get lost the pool of equations. Meng is an excellent teacher who knows that you will never do the kind of math in real life that you do in the classroom and that is why he wants you to understand the concepts so that you walk away from his class with an understanding of electromagnetics and not a bunch of equations.

first of all, the guy below me should shut the hell up..... he ain't bitchin' cuz he got an A in the class. for the rest of us who don't understand the material from the sorrie-ass text and actually try to listen to the lecture, Meng isn't the one to take. A daily scenario of the class is: Meng walks in, puts down his stuff, picks up a chalk, and starts filling up the board. He doesn't look at or have any notes, this guy is a freakin' dictionary!! He doesn't explain what he's writing, sometimes it isn't even really eligible, and does this til the end of the hour everyday. Meng also have an attitude problem. He looks at each of his students as if they were the son of the Devil or sumethin'. In one instance, Meng yelled at someone in class for eating a breathmint. A BREATHMINT!!! His conclusion is: "If you don't pay attention to me, you OUT!!!" Is it a crime to pop a couple of breathmints into your mouth during class???? In office hour, he criticizes you of your question, as if u were a retard, and tries to run you out of his office like you were the SARS virus... So you tell me how am I supposed to perform well in a class like this? I'm not the only one, the majority of my class agrees w/ me. So for the prospective EE students that will have to endure Meng, the only suggestion I have for you is to make sure you have plenty of friends in that class and copies of the previous midterms from TWO quarters ago.

I have mixed feelings about Professor Meng. On the one hand he does know what he is talking about, but he does not really relate to the student at all. At the beginning of the quarter he gave some explanations and told us what the equations meant some of the time, towards the end there was no explanations. He derives way too many equations without explanation to the point where you are not sure of what to study. I really had a hard time understanding the material. If you go to office hours he pretty much does the homework for you, but if you ask a question he has no idea how to answer so just finishes the problem for you. I was really frustrated and his test scores were really low. Luckily he curves and he makes the average score a 75% no matter what the average is, which helps becuse one test had an average of 41. He is not the best lecturer, but he is passable and the tests are not that bad, straight from lecture and homework usually. Just watch out, if your used to getting A's you just might end up with a C and vice versa he is very unpredictable.

What the guy/gal below said. Amen. I too took this class and have long since graduated from Poly, but I was cruising Poly Ratings for a kick and thought that I should pipe in and let you know how much of a joke this prof is.
