Rich was a great professor and really friendly guy. Experienced with EE, design, and entrepreneurship (was involved with a startup in the... 80s? 90s? You'll hear about it), and importantly, wants his students to succeed. In the 460 lectures he had a tendency to ramble a bit, but by all means was a good teacher (and no deal breakers unlike quite a few other professors at cal poly). He's not gonna kill you with work and he wants his students to learn and succeed. Hard to beat that.

I've had a couple classes with this professor (EE senior project prep and Grad Seminar). He did a good job getting a good lineup of speakers throughout the quarter. He was very passionate about the material and really wants students to do well, both in school and after graduation into industry, and as a result he's always willing to help or answer any question a student has.

Rich was a very enthusiastic lecturer and cares about students truly learning from their senior projects. I had him for 460/461/462 and he was very "chill", laid back and not strict at all in terms of reports and deliverables. He was also my senior project advisor and was very helpful to our group. I would have rather had him for 460 lecture/lab than Derickson...
