It's Professor Odell's first time teaching Winter Quarter and of course she won't be the best teacher, but you could tell she's working on her teaching skills because it definitely got so much better by the end of the quarter. This class is pretty decent. It's a college class so obviously you have to put in work. There's reading and homework and if you ask questions, she is willing to explain in detail. Going to her office hours will help you immensely. She will clarify questions and is a really kind person. She's a teacher though so obviously she'll see your "my dog ate my homework" bullshit. With that said, put in work and you'll be okay. People talked badly about her because they didn't expect her to be a "hard" teacher, but obviously she gets paid to give us work.

Professor Odell is a pretty nice person and very successful in her field but she needs a little more experience teaching. She uses all the power points from the textbook and it seems like in her lecture she hasn't even looked at them until class and teaches class on the fly. If you go to her office hours she's is pretty helpful but she needs to get better at teaching in a class format. Also she makes you use an online textbook which is very annoying and expensive.

Janice had absolutely no idea how to be a teacher. This is very difficult and foreign information and I had to completely teach it to myself with absolutely no help from her. The midterms and final were extremely unfair and generally the class average was a failing grade. I found the workload to be absurdly large and extremely frustrating because i had no idea what i was doing the whole time. Do yourself a favor and take someone who knows how to teach. Nice lady but hands down worst class i've taken at poly

I most certainly did not fail this class, but it was undoubtedly one of the most unpleasant experiences of my college career. Avoid this woman at all costs. This class consists of three things: her pointing at a pdf version of a PowerPoint made by the textbook company, her reminding the class she worked for a billion dollar chemical company, and her pantsuits from her days long ago as a CFO. If any of these sound appealing, by all means take this class. If you are hoping to understand managerial accounting, avoid at all costs.

Professor O’Dell is an incredible professor! She truly cares about a student’s success. She puts time aside to meet with people; she comes in for office hours as early as 8am on a Friday. She is a very successful professor and is a great mentor to have. I learned a lot in her class and she was willing to do what it took to help us succeed. I highly recommend taking her, her tests are difficult but she helps you do well. She also gives extra credit, which really helps! Very successful lady who cares a lot about her students!

Professor O'dell is the type of professor that truly cares about the success of her students (which is actually pretty rare). Yes, the class is difficult and hard to understand at times, but she provides her students with plenty of extra credit opportunities to not only boost your grade, but also allow you to get in some extra practice working with problems similar to the ones on her tests. She is very approachable and willing to work with you when you have trouble grasping a concept. The work load isn't too bad and the tests are usually similar to her practice exams.

So glad that I got to take Professor O'dell! She was one of the most down to earth, smart, knowledgeable professors I've have at Cal Poly. The lectures she gives are really helpful and use real world examples. 215 is such a hard subject to teach well, most of my friends with other professors don't like the material and think it's boring. However, because of O'Dell, I feel more like a CFO and and a CEO while doing my homework because she brings examples of when she was in the industry thinking and using cost accounting to more efficiently run the businesses she worked for. I will definitely be trying to take her for my senior project!!

Janice had been my advisor for the new senior project all quarter and it was such a great experience! She truly cares about teaching senior and junior accounting students how to learn by doing by offering a unique senior project that allows you to work one-on-one with Janice as well as the CEO of a start-up company in SLO. She was very helpful and taught me more about excel and start-up companies than any other teacher or class at Cal Poly. She really wants to get to know all of her students, she even invited us to her incredible ranch one night for dinner! I would highly recommend taking her for BUS 215 or BUS 463 if you get the chance!

The new accounting senior project Janice introduced was an amazing opportunity as I was completely uninterested in doing tax returns. I've learned much more about accounting systems, consulting & general business practices in one quarter with Janice than any single class. From excel tips & tricks to cash flow analyses. She provided hands on experience with dealing with "clients" (student start-ups & small business owners) & building a model to suit their business' needs. Her 463 business project was by far the best choice for accounting majors looking to apply themselves to something more exciting.

Janice is an incredibly smart woman and she really cares about her students' learning. She provided all of her students with a hands-on senior project and it was such a good learning experience. Having also taken VITA, I would certainly recommend Janice's class as it is so much more practical and applicable for non-tax accounting students!

I learned that if I were to take up hunting, I should shoot deer, not bears, because a bear will hunt me back if I successfully wound it. Fascinating! I didnt know that the key to production and operations management was so brutally simple!
