Take her she is the easiest grader I have had for math. She explains the material just fine and goes at a constant rate. She gives daily quizes that are from the homework. I thought she graded quit fairly and she drops lots of quiz scores. Overall, she was a fine teacher and easy grader.

Listen Up! DONT TAKE THIS WOMAN. I realized a man reason I almost failed her class is cause she is so large, when she's doin work on the board you cant see it, and by the time she moves she's already talkin bout something else. She is also not very bright, you can count on dozens of mistakes by her a day. Is that really fair she takes points off your exam for stupid mistakes when she makes them ALL the time !!!

The worst teacher I have ever had. If you decide to show up to class, don't bother taking notes, because they'll only confuse the hell out of you when you look them over. Turn in the homework on tuesdays and fridays and read the book...you'll do 10 times better in the class. I'm lucky I was taking this class as review or I would be taking the same class next quarter. Her lectures are so confusing she made me forget stuff I already knew. Not only does she make dozens of mistakes in every problem (if she completes it) which slows the class to a crawl, she has no organization...it seems as though she is winging it on the board, which you can't see anyway because she is always blocking it. She doesn't explain where she's coming from, what she's doing, or where she's going. A nice senile lady who should retire(she lost one of our tests before we could take it). Her only positive is that she is generous with partial credit. This light bulb burned out a long time ago. Don't take her.

So I did not do very well on the final. It happens. Dr McDill was like a mom. She cared. It is a hard class, but she uses her talent to make it into one which students love. She is very understanding and humorous. Take her if you can.

I want to know who is responsible for hiring this woman so I can slap them upside the head ask for my money back. I'd feel more comfortable with a 3rd grader on the board. At least most them can add and speak coherently. Whichever "school" this woman got her degree from should be shut down immediately. I don't want any more McDills floating around terrorizing college students with their mindless dribble. I sure hope she knows what she is talking about, because I sure as hell didn't. The point of class is for me to understand the material, not for her to write chicken scratch on the board and claim it's calculus. When I registered for this class I wanted a professor, not a motherly figure or a nice lady. The point of a college class is to learn. McDill has no purpose in a college class unless she's a returning student, which I suggest she do. Because judging from her board work she doesn't know what she's doing either.

Avoid this teacher at all costs. She makes tons of mistakes and sits at the board going hmmm the erases a few things and fixes the problem so your left with a whole page of notes that don't make sense. She isn't very good at telling you why somthing is so she just writes it down. its hard to follow her lectures. She also would think she gave us handouts (test study guides, homework assingment) but she never did. She also did things like allow a cheat sheet on the tests but didn't tell our class untill the day of the test. Nice Lady, Horrible teacher

She makes me feel cheated, paying for my education. I am paying so that i can get a good education. She doesnt even give you a half-way descent education. If you dont go to class and you read the book, you will do a lot better than if you go to class and have your mind drained out of you through her mindless "umms" and "uhhs" as she's trying to think of what she is supposed to teach next. Her examples are useless, because she does not do any before class and all the ones she chooses come out to be incredibly harder than they are supposed to. You go off on too many tangents an then you look at the test, and havent seen any of it before. She makes me ashamed to be a Cal Poly student.

This class is absolutely terrible for people who aren't the best at math. She stands in front talking to herself and makes a ton of errors. She assigns daily homework which is collected twice a week, but most of the time she won't go over the material until the day after she assigns it, so you may have to learn out of the book for a lot of it. Her labs are absolutely pointless, but she is good with giving partial credit and postponing homework due dates. The only real bonus to taking this class is that she drops your lowest test grade, and you have homework, lab, and weekly quiz points to help improve your grade. I definitely do not recommend this teacher.

This teacher is very hard to understand, and constantly makes mistakes on the board, and loses track of what she is saying. I had to learn everything on my own, and she gives quizzes every week, which sucked. Then she put stuff we did not even learn on the final. I consider myself a good math student....don't take her.

Professor McDill was the nicest woman who is a fantastic and devoted calculus teacher. Definitely take this course, you will learn so much with interactive software she invented and she is very willing to help with any questions, anytime. I made an appointment with her to talk over some material I wasn't getting and I ended up going in 3 times that quarter for help. I totally got it and i typically suck at math. At the end of the quarter she helped me out with my grade cuz she knew how hard i tried. DEFINITELY go to office hours and get to know this lady, she's awesome, a funny little grandma who's not as stupid as some make her out to be.

Where do I even begin with McDill. If you want a one sentence analysis of my feelings, here it is: Do NOT take this class. Much like you are doing now, I read her polyratings before taking the class. I thought to myself "Wow, they look bad, but they can't be that bad. I'm good at math, so I'm sure I'll do fine." This is probably the worst mentality to have with her. Do NOT take this class. Every day we would spend the class listening to her ramble on, and saying "um um um" in confusion about fifty times per class. She makes tons of mistakes on the board, but they are not at the beginning of the problem. She will finish a ten minute problem then realize she wrote it down wrong then start all over. Plus she's very hard of hearing, and since nobody wants to yell out her mistake, she can't hear you telling her what she did wrong. The only redeeming quality about McDill is that she is an amazing teacher in her office hours. I was a little surprised how helpful they were the first time I went. If you HAVE to take her, go to her office hours to get something explained. I don't know how I managed an A in this class, but it was hell for me. I'm extremely good at math, so I think that's what saved me, but if you have never taken calculus avoid McDill at ALL COSTS. Do NOT take this class.

Not a BAD teacher, but not a good one either. Thats what one of the faculty told me about her before I took the course, and they were right on. She can present the material well, but you really have to watch her math, she makes a LOT of errors on the board. Good grading policy, ok teacher. No reason to fear the class, just be on your toes.

McDill is a very nice lady. Her class is well organized. Her lectures are clear, but sometimes she makes stupid errors and lacks the ability to see them. These errors are not that big of a deal. She is extremely helpful in office hours, a fair grader, and knows the subject really well, especially when the topic involves 3-D. Math 241 is not easy, but if you try, you'd get a decent grade. Labs are also involved, but they are easy credits.

If her section is the only one open just don't take the class. This lady makes so many mistakes in lecture that you have no idea what is going on. Her office hours are also no help at all. When I asked her a question, she referred to the book and said..."These are hard problems." and she couldn't even give me all the answers. She also puts the hardest most work intensive problems on the midterms so you better know your past calculus well. The grading policy was straight forward...25% homework and quizzes, 25% for each of the two midterms, and 50% for the final. The lowest midterm is dropped, or if the final is worse it counts for 25%. In the end I would say just avoid this professor!

Just your average Math class: nothing horrible, nothing spectacular. Two midterms and the final which account for 75% of your grade. Homework is collected about twice a week with a good amount of problems. For some ungodly reason, many other students like that, and if you're like them, McDill's the one for you. It must not be worth much though; I stopped doing homework in the third week or so and I still managed to get a B. (Surprised the hell out of me.)

I've never worked so hard in a class to receive a C. Bottom line: McDill has no clue when it comes to conveying information to her students. Since her lectures were pointless, I was forced to get a tutor. Then she gives her 50 minute midterms which are designed for 1 1/2 hours. Both midterms I probably could have gotten an A if she made the damn tests fair. I'm not ripping on this lady because I'm butthurt about my grade... In fact, I was happy just to pass the damn class. No Joke, this lady sucks big time, and was the worst proffesor I've ever had at Poly,

Although I had to withdraw from her class, I was definitely in it enough to realize she isn't too great a teacher. Nice enough lady, but makes a lot of errors on the board and doesn't really spit things out in a matter that intices learning. I'd go elsewhere.

Another one of my teachers who gives tests that cannot be finished with the given amount of time. I always thought test were supposed to test your knowledge and ability to solve problems. With both of McDill's tests, an extra twenty minutes would have easily raised my grades from D's and C's to A's. On both the midterms I didn't get to do more than read the last three problems. It's not a issue of problem difficulty, it's an issue of time. I wish teachers would plan tests to take less time than the class, so people can actually take longer to finish if they have to, rather than rush through and not live up to their potential. This is the greatest flaw a teacher can have, in my opinion, so I automatically gave her the lowest grade. If you can help it, don't get into McDill's class.

Dr. McDill is a nice lady, but she can't teach. I spent most of my time in class copying notes and being confused. I learned right out of the book. I talked to other people in the class and almost all of them said exactly the same thing. It's difficult to follow her in class because she skips steps many times and makes so many mistakes. However, she is really helpful during her office hours.

McDill is not a bad teacher once you realize that she is a bit absent minded. She does make a lot of mistakes and forgets things sometimes, but she's a good lady, and an average teacher. She's very generous with partial credit, at least she was to me, and her tests are fair.

Prior to taking this class, I had not received lower than a B in any math class, and I do not think the class was particularly difficult. She makes so many mistakes on the board in class that it makes it very difficult to follow her work. The most important material in the class was skipped over very quickly and was tested on heavily, but not explained well. The labs are seemingly pointless. Take my advice and do not take this profesor.

Dr. McDill knows what she's talking about. The homework load wasn't that bad and she even extended some due dates to accomodate tough sections. The class was set up with 25% for homework, quizzes, and labs. The lab component was really easy as long as you did it. Midterm 1 was worth 25%. Midterm 2 was worth 25% and the Final was worth 50%. She dropped your lowest of the two tests or made the final only worth 25%. As long as you did a good job on labs and one of the midterms you could get a decent grade in the class. She was really helpful in office hours. Was more than willing to do homework problems with you before they were due. You do have to watch her with sign errors on the board, but it was not as bad as others have indicated. Most of the people in my section caught them right away. The few flaws with the class were that there was too many sections on application problems and we kind of rushed through the last chapter. But the rushing is expected in the quarter system. She's a really nice lady and if you have to take Differential Equations I'd take her.

I did get an A in the class...but that was not because McDill taught me a lot...she taught me nothing!! I only went to class to get the homework assignments and turn them in. I learned everything from the book. Her labs were lame and the book and cd combo you buy is below par..you only use it because she helped write a program on the cd. And just like her lectures, the program had a TON of mistakes. She messes up her lectures and spends most her time erasing. She was nice, though. And her final seemed way TOO easy..but I won't complain.

Dr. McDill is a really good teacher for Differential Equations. More than anything else, I found her to be flexible. If the homework was piling up, she would postpone some of the due dates, and she was very reasonable with regards to the grading of my midterms. The homework and exams that she gives are fair, and she inundates you with helpful handouts that clarify important concepts. She makes mistakes when writing on the board, but these are quickly discovered and won't affect presentation of the material. Her office hours are very helpful. Professor McDill teaches the material, grades fairly, and has a very pleasant manner (much like a grandma might). I recommend her to anyone interested in (or required to take) MATH 242.

So, I haven't recieved my grade in this class yet, but I must warn you all before you register for this class. Professor McDill is completely SENILE! She talks to herself as she stands in front of the board and makes error after error after error in her examples until it gets to the point where you can't even follow her. I feel really bad because she's nice and older, but she shouldn't be teacher. Oh! and she wrote the book, so you never can go to it for clarification or a different perspective. It's rough.

I tried hard in this class to pass. I went to 7 am office hours, did all my homework, was there every day, and i didnt pass. She is horrible at explaining how to do things. She is also the pickiest grader. I totally understood everything on the second midterm and somehow wound up with a D on it. I have gone into her numerous times and told her i dont understand how to do something, and she wasnt much help. She talks to the board, and does it quietly. Her tests were awful! She messes up A LOT in lecture and jumps around. Do not take her if you can, if you have to, good luck!

McDill was a very nice teacher. I found her ability to convey the material amazing. If I had been following along, I would understand everything fine. But that was the problem...it was usually difficult to follow along, mainly because she stands in the way of your view and you can't associate the equations on the board with what she is saying. But usually her equations spoke for themselves and you could keep up again. She was very oblivious however. If she made a mistake, you'd almost literally have to shout it out before she'd notice. If you were to raise your hand, you're not going to be noticed for at least 5 minutes. If you have something to say, say it, and say it loud! But when you got her attention...and on the right page, she explained things so well that there was no way you could be confused. But the material is very easily forgotten, so the homework is a must. It's collected twice a week and usually handed back the next week. The grader got a bit sloppy towards the end. McDill took her time throughout most of the quarter. But she rushed towards the last 2 weeks of the quarter. I think it was because she didn't pace the class well enough. We had a few delays in homework and quizzes, and we never quite got up to speed again. But for the most part, a very nice, effective, elderly teacher. I would take her again.

I used to do well in math, but this is the first class that I struggled in. Not only is the material confusing, but Professor McDill did not really convey the lectures well to the class. She would stand in front of the board and block everyone's view, and she rarely noticed when people were raising their hands to ask questions. You literally had to yell at her to hear you because she has a problem with hearing. Since she doesn't explain her work on the board very well, you have to pay attention the whole time. If you just slip for like a minute, you are completely lost in all her work. Her tests are ridiculously difficult. She puts more problems than the class could do in an hour. One good thing about McDill is that she is willing to help during office hours. She will show you step by step how to do a problem if you go to her office hours. However, the only problem with that is that the homework she assigns and her practice tests never help you with her exams. I would not recommend registering for McDill, but if you do, be prepared to study your butt off.

A senile old bat. That pretty much sums her up. While she knows what she is doing in terms of the material she makes so many mistakes on the board that its ridiculous. The labs were what made me a little mad...yup. You read right, LABS in a straight math class. She sorts just handed out the labs and we had to figure them out on our own. A couple of them we had to use this website she helped create...it was really confusing and not very helpful. The materials itself was easy enough. Two midterms were both pretty fair. The final she told us would be cummulitive, but a bit end heavy. Except a good 60% of the final was on the last two weeks!!! If your good with math, you should do well enough.
