Brian is the man. Take this review with a grain of salt, because I didn't have the pleasure of having him as a studio professor, but as a Practice 241,242,207 lecturer, I probably learned the most out of the three professors who taught the course. Really cool guy, kind of quiet, but really smart. I wish that I could take his studio class, I bet he would be amazing in small groups. If you have the opportunity, please take him!

Brian did an amazing job this quarter, especially for it being his first class at cal poly. He has changed my entire approach to architectural design with his concept of the "architectural argument", which makes me see my projects with more intention and confidence. It was evident how much he cared about each of us and our projects, as he could remember minute details about every single one of our projects without needing any reminder at all. He even formed assignments completely individually around each of our projects! One thing I wish we had though at the end of the quarter were more refined deliverables. I feel like I had very valuable ideas when it came to my project but my deliverables were a bit rushed in the last week before final review because we spent most of the quarter working on trace.

I don't think I've ever had a professor in my life that has put so much attention into each of his students. After mid-review, there were no more class-wide assignments. Instead each student would get individual assignments that suited the direction of their projects. Whenever I talk to him, I can see he is fully immersed in the conversation and always thinking of ways to push us further. His "argument-based" approach to architecture, background in both architecture and landscape architecture, and his methodical-ness has changed the way I think about architecture. On the downside, the time he spends with each student gradually increases as the quarter goes on, so towards the end of the quarter he only gets through a handful of student each class. PS He has a dry sense of humor but he's hilarious.
