Had to take this class for my concentration, which is AEPS not Landscape Design. Hope you have lots of patience and are already an expert at Landscape Design because you are on your own for the most part. His grading is seemingly arbitrary and highly subjective. Grade first teach after. I always asked questions when I was confused or had no idea what I was doing (which was most of time) and he was highly unhelpful and never answered my questions with anything remotely helpful. It is obvious that he is passionate about his job and knows what he is doing, but has no idea how to teach and convey his thoughts to others. It was a 4 hour class (lab right after lecture) and it was painful. Overall he is a great guy but a crap teacher.

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!! From the beginning he was the most boring professor who goes on and on and expects you to remember every detail of his lecture. There was no midterm to prepare you for the final and he said it would be short common sense problems and it was 86 questions that were meant to screw you over in the class. Thought I would come out with a B+ days before the final and it really dropped my grade. Other than that he's a nice guy

Professor Manning's classes were SO BORING and he goes on and on, and mumbles to make it worse. Lecture and lab were back to back twice a week (4 hour long class) which put me to sleep. His class was easy at the beginning, and I thought it would be a breeze. Once it comes time to learn the computer programs, it all went downhill. He SUCKS at teaching the computer programs, and expects you to learn it all pretty much on your own and grades them hard. There is one final exam at the end, which isn't fair at all considering there was no midterm, and we didn't know what sort of information was going to be on the final. The final was 86 questions about stupid things that he had briefly gone over in class. He expected us to know everything about landscaping just because he does. Had a B in the class, got a D on the final, and it dropped my grade to a C+ and he offered no extra credit to raise it only 1% to get a B-. AVOID THIS CLASS IF YOU CAN!!!

AEPS 127 is a weird class, the projects are really fun, class however can be hit or miss. Lectures tend to be pretty boring, Manning talks pretty slow throughout both lecture and lab, however there have been a few that have been entertaining. Much of the information presented can be easily remembered because the design principles are pretty much all common sense. Manning knows what hes talking about, although occasionally he can get drawn into what he's doing on programs and starts mumbling, leading to confusion. He is super helpful one on one and very charismatic, you can tell he's trying. Overall a positive experience in the course.
