He's a great teacher. If you read and attend lectures, you will get an A. I speak from experience because I skipped a few times and got a B. He doesn't grade on attendance, but some of the material is only given in lecture. But, I do regret not going to all of the lectures because they were very fun and you get to dive into the material with the professor, who worked with marine mammals! He's really understanding of the student struggle and he recently graduated from Cal Poly. Also, he is one of the most attractive professors, so yeah. There's that, too

Shaun is a really good professor. Take him for any class you can. I had him for Physics 132 Lab and his 10-minute lectures to preview the material we needed to know for the lab made way more sense than any of my lecture professor’s 1-hour lectures. He is very straightforward and to the point, and he is looking to help his students succeed. He may not give a light workload (for example, some Physics 132 labs simply did the lab and answered the questions, but Shaun had us do a full lab report as well), but it’s definitely not too much and the process helps you learn the material well. Do your formal lab reports on a lab you feel comfortable with, because you will do a better job and get a higher grade. The only slightly off-putting thing about his grading is that if you meet all the requirements, he will give you an 85-90% instead of a 100%, so you have to go “above and beyond” in your work to earn closer to a 100. But he’s a really nice and personable person who won’t hesitate to admit when he’s wrong or when he doesn’t know, usually traits of any good human being. You definitely will not regret having him for any class!

I am retaking this class (to get a better grade) so I had previously done all the labs for PHYS 132 with my previous instructor. However, my experience in the lab with my old instructor compared to Shaun is very, very different in a positive light. My old class simply handed me the lab manual without any explanation and expected us to finish the lab and answer the questions by the end of the class period. This resulted in rushed experiments, inaccurate answers to the question and pretty much ZERO understanding of the material. Shaun is different. Shaun ACTUALLY lectures briefly on the material in a non-boring way and easy to understanding manner. The material in PHYS 132 gets a bit complicated but Shaun makes sure you understand all aspects of the lab along with some conceptual topics. I liked Shaun a lot better than my actual lecture instructor because Shaun was able to explain physics topics in a metaphorical way that made sense. He is big on diagrams and drawings and does all he can to make sure the students understand what is happening. He breaks down problems to make them easier for students. He recognizes student's difficulties with certain topics. He is very helpful during lab. You can ask him any question and he will help you. He is not one of those professors who make you feel dumb for asking a question. He is an approachable guy. The lab consisted of weekly quizzes (you can use your lab notebook!), lab reports (if you don't finish you can turn it in next week) and formal lab reports (two per quarter, very easy to do). It's pretty easy to earn an A in this class as long as you do all the work. He grades a bit tough, but if you demonstrate thoroughness in your work he will give you a higher score. His class taught me valuable lessons on how to approach lab based classes and how to collect data efficiently.

Let me start by saying Perisho is an awesome guy, but that said his course had some vital flaws. First off, for being so young it is absolutely insane he does not use Poly Learn to maintain grades. One of the most important aspects to know is that Perisho is primarily a Psych Prof and those scores have inflated his Poly Rating. He doesn't teach this course enough and the first Midterm was absolutely killer with no-one in the A range until the curve. The second midterm was better and the final was an absolute joke. And that isn't because I started studying more (my study habits remained pretty constant) it is because they were shorter and on easier problems. Overall, I am conflicted about this course, because he presents the material extremely well; however his tests are all over the board.

Shaun was an awesome teacher. He is a great speaker and his lectures are always very entertaining. There are three multiple choice tests (each 25% of your grade) and one paper (4-5 pages) worth 25%. Go to the lectures as he goes over stuff that will be on the test that is not in the book. Otherwise the tests are pretty straightforward.

Shaun is the best teacher. He's really funny and teaches the material with enthusiasm. I loved his class. Study a lot for the midterms because they're a huge part of your grade and they're straightforward but extremely difficult if you don't know your stuff.

Shaun is the type of professor that you leave the lecture wanting to be friends with him. He is an excellent lecturer and genuinely seems psyched about teaching people what he knows. Also importantly, he teaches the class the way you want it to be taught. There are no bs assignments and the grading is fair; he makes it clear that psych 201 is an intro class and should be treated as such. Overall, a great professor and a great person.

TAKE THIS GUY. Shaun is a beast. He is great at explaining the material, and really engages the class into a meaningful discussion rather than just lecturing for two hours. Seriously, why have you not signed up for his class yet?

I LOVE SHAUN. He knows the material so well, his powerpoint are great, he makes it interesting, and he tells funny jokes. Great class, one of my favorite teachers. He's also cute so thats a plus. 10/10 would recommend/would date.

Very likable guy. Shaun loves to joke around and he'll answer any questions you have, no matter how tangential they are. One paper at the end of the course, otherwise all midterms and the final, all of which are multiple choice. The class itself is quite easy regardless of professor, but he teaches well and makes it interesting, so there's really no excuse for getting lower than a B- or so if you make any decent effort. Do note however that if you miss class, you can't get all the information from the slides, as he adds information that isn't directly on them.

He was really relatable, not boring at all. He made the course fun and interesting to learn. He emails back fast and is always available at office hours! Definitely recommend!! Tip: he loves it when you participate in the lecture and answer his questions or add to the conversation literally in any way you can!

I haven't had many professors yet at Cal Poly, but Shawn Perisho is far and away the best professor I have taken at this university. Every day only consists of lectures and him showing powerpoint presentations, but he GENUINELY knows the material he lectures on and is able to do so in a very interesting way. He posts the powerpoints online, but they only include a few short bullets per slide and the rest of the lecture comes from his memory. He often cites many experiences that he himself has done (such as training sea lions) and all the stories he tells are very interesting, enjoyable, and informational. He often gives extra credit just for being present in lecture as well. There is a written final where he gives you 4 different published citations and you have to write a few pages explaining why their methods were flawed (this is really easy and he grades really light on it, I finished it at home in 40 minutes) and there are multiple choice midterms and finals that are somewhat challenging but are far from difficult. Take Perisho is you can, he is both extremely interesting and informative.

BEST PROFESSOR EVER. He is funny, a good lecturer, interacts with the class, makes the subject interesting, and is easy on the eyes ;) He is so receptive to everything you say or ask in office hours, and has lived the coolest life which he will tell you about in class. He’s a super nice guy, and if you put in effort in his course, he will be more than happy to put in effort to help you succeed. I got As on all three tests (two midterms and a final) and only studied for about 5 hours for each. With that said, I would highly recommend coming to lecture- that is what saved me so much study time.

Shaun was honestly one of the coolest teachers I've ever had. I genuinely looked forward to going to the lectures every week as he kept me engaged for the entire two hours. Not only was the class super interesting, but he's also really funny. You can tell how much he cares about his students, and if you pay attention in class and study, you can definitely get an A. Another thing I loved about Shaun was that his tests were pretty straightforward. It's clear that he just wants to make sure that you're understanding the important details and he doesn't want to trick you or make the tests harder than they need to be. I would 100% recommend taking a class with Shaun if you have the chance! He's the homie.

Shaun is an amazing teacher. The test are straight forward and if you attend class and looked over your notes before the test you should have no difficulty in this class. There is four tests including a cumulative final but he drops your worst test grade so if u are doing good enough in the class then you don't have to take the final. There was also a small paper due at the end of the quarter but was very straightforward. Shaun was easy to talk to and was very relatable. Highly recommend Mr. Perisho and hopefully i will have him for more classes. Highly recommend this class.

The professor is very clear with his material. If you pay attention in class and take good notes, it's an easy A. He gives a study guide that if you go through at least once before the exam, you will do well. All his exams are based on the lecture material. He drops your lowest exam grade, which is awesome. There's three midterms and the final, and if you liked the grade you got between the three midterms, then you can use the drop on your final. He's a great Professor. He makes the course material and lectures really engaging. He's very approachable if you have questions. If you have to take this class, take it with Perisho and you won't regret it!

Professor Perisho is incredible and makes the material extremely entertaining to learn. The class moves at a quick pace but as long as you have a laptop or are a fast note taker you should be fine. The midterms are fair and pretty straight forward and are all based off lecture so it would benefit to show up to class as much as possible! Overall enjoyed this class and would recommend taking this course from him.

Perisho is a great professor. He's super funny and tries to make the lectures really engaging. He puts all his slides online too so you can go back and read them if you miss anything. He goes through slides during lecture pretty fast but if you ask questions to clarify he will always answer questions. The midterms are pretty hard and specific so I would recommend getting the textbook and reading through that too for midterms because it will help you understand the material more. But overall the class is really interesting and he makes the classes really fun to be in.

Shaun is awesome. Although some of the material may contain details that you may not need to know for the exams, he lectures on things that aren't just about psychology. Tests are overall easy, some age memorization, but overall not that bad. Love him, he's so funny! Keeps the visual aids and videos relevant to the material, and he's just great

This professor really isn't that good. This is a very easy class... you don't really have to pay attention much and the tests are still really easy. However, if you are looking for an interesting class, this is not the one to take. Shaun rambles on and on about obvious concepts. His lecture is so boring and you will be there the full 2 hours. I walked out of that class barely learning anything. Additionally, if you ask him a question his answer almost every time will be, "thats a really good question, i don't know, ill have to look that up". He is a nice guy, and is funny here and there but his class will probably put you to sleep unless you have been living under a rock your entire life and don't know basic developmental principles

Perisho is a phenomenal professor! I'll start by saying he is a hilarious, kind-spirited, fun dude who truly enjoys teaching and makes you want to learn more and ask questions. He is so personable and caring and really is able to make a connection with his students. His class feels like a discussion, not a lecture, because he is always encouraging people to ask questions and gets genuinely stoked when students participate. There is no such thing as a dumb question in his class, which is great and really allows for a participatory, conducive learning environment. He somehow was able to fly through an insane amount of information, but I never felt that we were moving too fast. You can tell that he has a passion for teaching and it is hard not to be passionate about learning when in his class. He makes everything easy enough to understand, has awesome analogies, and plays awesome, funny, and relevant videos. His tests are extremely fair and aren't too hard as long as you pay attention in class, study, and take a general interest in the material. which isn't hard. The material we learn is so freaking interesting cause its about US, humans, and how we developed and are continuously developing into these complex, amazing beings. Hell of a teacher, and a hell of a guy, I thoroughly enjoyed being in his class and look forward to seeing the dude around campus. Cal Poly is lucky to have this guy!

Prof. Perisho was a fantastic lecturer. He is extremely engaging and very easy to relate to. He gives tons of great examples and is very willing to answer and respond to student's questions and critiques. His class isn't too challenging if you just pay attention and take good notes in lecture. I finished the quarter with a solid A and did not have to purchase the textbook. One of the best professors I have had...well...ever. He really puts in the time it takes to find funny videos that are so adorable that help you learn the material. Professor Perisho is by far one of the greatest professors I have ever had. He's young, he's cool, and he is a CP grad, so he can really relate to his students. He presented the material clearly and was always open to questions. I recommend taking notes directly onto the powerpoint slides, because his test questions are 100% lecture based. There are 3 midterms and a final, and your lowest test score is dropped. All tests (including the final) are 50 MC questions. No homework, and the book isn't even mandatory (although I do recommend purchasing it because it helps with reinforcing concepts on the slides). If you get the chance to take Perisho, TAKE HIM. HE IS AMAZING.

I have had perisho before, so I know he was a cool dude. He's really young and knows how to get students interested in even the most boring topic. This class was alright, it was his first time teaching it so it was just not very organized. He does not require a textbook however I feel like it would have really helped. We had two exams and one HUGE group project(you get to choose the people). The group project is writing a literature review that is 20 ish pages, my group was super diligent with it and so it was not too bad however he didn't give the best outline on how to write the actual literature review so that was kind of rough. This class however is the most boring psych class, however it is required... so Perisho did a good job at making it somewhat decent it's just boring material lol. Lastly, exams were graded super hard there is MC and like 2-3 free response. I thought I knew a good amount going into them and didn't do amazing. Is what it is, still probably ending up with an A because of how hard I decided to study on the final/ how well I assume I will do on my group project.

The most boring fucking lecture of all time. He literally rambles on and on with stories and extraneous information about the most simple and understandable statistics and data terms and actually expects you to be engaged and focused. His slides are terrible and contain no information about the subject at all rather just dumb irrelevant pictures and graphs. Then he expects you to do well on a midterm which is some multiple choice and short response that he did not prepare you for at all. On top of that he grades these tests extremelyy hard. There is also a large group project which is supposed to have time allocated for it during class, however, he decides to use all of the time to talk incessantly about unrelated topics. He also does not give you an outline for the final research paper and report at all and then expects the class to hand it top tier psychological research facts and paper. I would avoid taking him if possible and for those who do good luck.

I absolutely love Shaun. I failed the first midterm and was sooo upset. I started going to office hours almost weekly. He was so helpful, patient, and understanding. This class is extremely difficult just because the material itself is so complicated but he makes class really enjoyable. I wouldn't take this class if you don't have to just because it's so much work and studying, but if you're a psych major and have to take it then definitely take it with Shaun. He's just a great teacher and great guy!

Perisho was a great professor. I wouldn't have wanted to take PSY 340 with any other professor. He was extremely well-prepared for each lecture, his exams were fair (especially with his study guides), and he communicated the subject well by using analogies and relatable examples that made some of the denser material easier to understand. The textbook was EXTREMELY helpful in preparing for exams. I cannot stress this enough. The assigned reading correlated very well with the lectures, and I'm not sure I would have done as well as I did in this class without it. Perisho's exams were extremely fair as was his grading on essay questions. Everyone knew what to expect based on what he stressed in class as well as what he put on his study guides. When lecturing, he'll often say, "this could be a good essay question." It will often be what he puts on the exam. He lectures very quickly so type your notes and add to the slides he posts on PolyLearn before each lecture. The content of this course was extremely interesting. I'm considering pursuing a minor in PSY and taking other courses in PSY solely based on my experience in this course.

Wow, i'm seeing a lot of positive reviews for Dr. Perisho so I think it's important for anyone thinking about taking PSY 340 with him to read this. As a Psych major, the deep biology material isn't my strong suit. But, I never got anything lower than a B in college (even in science classes). I took 2 classes with Dr. Perisho before taking this one, and he was great! So I didn't hesitate registering with him. Big mistake!! Perisho just stands in the front of the classroom for 2 hours and lectures. He throws some jokes and relatable examples, but besides that it can get VERY dry. For material that is SUPER specific and hard to grasp (basically learning the entire brain & how it works), just lecturing with bland slides isn't enough. Also, there's 0 homework and 0 quizzes. So your grade is JUST 3 midterms. So- if you get a C on one midterm, you're screwed!!! I think it's ridiculous that he wouldn't put the effort in to create HW assignments to buffer students grades. Or to allow students to learn by DOING. Instead of learn by listening to him talk for 4 hours a week. Everyone I've talked to that took this class with him either got a C or D, or they got a A/B IF they were already skilled in science, seeked tutoring, and studied like 15 hours a week. Take Freeberg or Bennion instead!!! Friends in that class got Bs when they barely understood the material, just by doing all of the HW, attendance, and passing the tests.
