MATH 118

Heidi is a cool person. You can tell she really loves math and she gets excited about teaching. The only thing is that she kinda sucks at teaching. She overly complicates damn near every topic and if I hadn't have taken this course before in high school I'm sure I'd be struggling a lot more. But, she is MUCH more helpful if you go to her office hours and I highly recommend going to all of them especially before the homework is due because she's a nit-picky grader so try to have her look over your homework before you turn it in.

Heidi is a great teacher and I'm so happy to have had her! She's a grad student but I loved her because you can tell that she truly has a passion for math and she wants to make sure that her students learn the material. She lectures for the whole class and explains the material very clearly (she can also be pretty enthusiastic, even during my class which was at 8am). She assigns homework at the beginning of the week to be turned in on Friday and then homework over the weekend to be turned in on the following Tuesday. The amount of homework is reasonable, enough to give you practice doing the problems but it's definitely not excessive (especially since she gives you a good amount of time to get them done). She's very approachable and always willing to help during her office hours. Her midterms are not cumulative, but the final is. However, the problems on the midterms and final are very similar to those on the weekly quizzes, so you should not have a problem if you correct your mistakes on the quizzes and study those. She also lets you use a note-card on the second midterm and the final. Your grade in the class reflects the amount of effort you put in the class, but an "A" is definitely achievable.

Heidi is so sweet! She is a grad student but she has a passion for math and wants to share that with everyone. She is really helpful in office hours and represents the material clearly. The homework is doable and the quizzes and exams aren't bad. Just study and know what your'e doing. The only problem with Heidi is that she TALKS SO FAST. Don't be scared of telling her to slow down. She won't be offended! I recommend her!

Heidi is an amazing professor. I took her for both 118 and 221. She explains things clearly and really treats the class like everyone is learning this material for the first time, which is helpful. She is incredibly helpful in her office hours. She makes it clear what she expects and what is going to be on the exam. I highly recommend taking Heidi!

She overcomplicates everything and I had to teach myself every lesson via youtube videos because she breezes through examples. I have a 3.5 and am about to get a C. Also, the spread of grades is not at all spread out normally; either people have a solid A currently or a C or lower, and it's obvious the people who have As have taken AP Calc. My roommate in it with me admits she is horrible at explaining and that if she was taking calc for the first time she would be doing awful. She has a 97%(one of the top scores in the class) purely because she has taken AP Calc. Also, our last midterm average was around a 75 and she thinks that is "very high for a math class." She is also taking out the most understandable concept from the final because most people nailed it on a midterm. Would not recommend if you've never taken AP Calc!! If you have, it is probably all review and will be easy for you.

If you have never taken AP Calc do NOT take MATH 221 with Heidi. She will make your life miserable. She goes so fast through the lectures, it's impossible to keep up if you have never seen the information before. Her weekly quizzes usually have a few curve balls that make them challenging to get better than a B on. The first and second midterms weren't terrible if you studied really hard. The final was very difficult though. If you haven't taken a calc class before this prepare to spend your whole quarter focusing on this class. I would not recommend taking Heidi for this class. She made it more challenging than it needed to be and did a poor job of explaining things.

Heidi is an incredible instructor. She conveys the material well and does a great job of clarifying concepts students are struggling with. I heard some people complain about her and I would ask "do you stop by her office hours when you have questions?"... and of course they don't so its really hard to have sympathy for them. Use office hours, ask her questions, and speak up if she goes too fast. This is my second time taking this class, so believe me this class sucks, but f you have to take 221 then Heidi is one of the best out there to take it with.
