Quite possibly one of, if not THE greatest professor I've had in college. He's funny, fairly laid back, and obviously pretty damn smart. He covers the material well and has no problem explaining or clarifying information if you're having trouble understanding it. Same goes for office hours or anytime you have questions or need help outside of class. (Seriously, if you need help, GO TO OFFICE HOURS/TALK TO HIM. HE IS SUPER COOL.) Lectures aren't dull, and this was the one class this quarter I never felt inclined to skip. I never felt like I wasn't learning, or that the class was a waste of my time. It's also a good idea to attend each one because he asks randomized "queries" (questions pertaining to the last lecture) at the beginning of class. In terms of the class itself, there's 9 labs (one due per week, generally) that are pretty straightforward, 6 projects (5 of which build on each other), 2 midterms, and a final. They're pretty fair, as is the grading, and he posts review sheets and supplemental help (especially for the final). No joke, take this professor. I can't recommend him enough.

Brian Jones is the best professor you'll probably ever have in so many aspects. He is so friendly and cares about his students so much more than any professor I've ever had. He wants everyone to be good at CS and he is so patient. He is also really accommodating and understands when things come up and works with you to make sure you will succeed past any unfortunate circumstances. He took time out of his day that weren't even office hours to teach me material that wasn't taught in 101 (for a technical interview I had coming up). I respect Brian Jones so much and I would take him again in a heartbeat for any class. Such a great guy and really knows how to convey material.

Brian Jones.... Where to start? He was an incredible professor! He knew how to clearly present the material, making computer science fun and easy. He always was lenient and had a laid back attitude. I looked forward to his class every week. Students should expect queries (questions about the previous lecture) every class. There were also 9 labs (roughly 1 per week), 6 projects, and two midterms. Brian Jones knows how to teach. Make sure to take him!

Every class was enjoyable. He knows how to make sure you understand the material and apply it. Aced every exam, gave up on the last project, but that common final at the end killed me. Wasn't his fault though. I would take every single CS class with this man if I could.

Brian Jones was the best professor you could take for this subject. His midterms are extremely doable and a lot of the stuff he teaches in lecture you can just write directly to a lab. Super helpful in class and posts his lecture notes online in case you couldn't get all of the code written. I HIGHLY recommend especially for coders that may consider themselves beginners.

Jones is a great CS teacher and knowledgable person. He does not teach by writing traditional notes on the board, which might be off-putting to some. Instead, he types code (displayed on the projector) and runs it. It gave me a much better understanding of how the code was interpreted and all of the conditions/exceptions of certain CS concepts. He also posts all of his lecture code/queries (practice problems) online which was very nice for studying and assignments. The projects were a bit tricky, but Jones was very helpful during office hours and he even offered 75% late submission on projects 3 - 5.

Your code will never be good enough for him, but that's just because he's that smart. Super laid back guy who has a knack for teaching. Great professor!

Hailed as the best 101 teacher and definitely deserves it. Very clear during lecture and lab, super helpful, and makes great project specifications. If you have the chance to take 101 with him, do it.

Brian Jones is one of the best professors I've had here at Cal Poly. He presents material clearly, and has reasonable expectations for students. He is very down to earth, and he is always willing to clear up anything a student might be confused about. He is very cheerful and his lectures are fun. At least, he always seems to be having fun. He wrote (or rewrote) most of the labs and projects for this class, and taught in conjunction with Professor Hatalsky. He would regularly answer questions on Piazza. All around quality class and a great professor.

He is a great professor, he conveys the material well and the lectures are never boring. The book isn't necessary with his detailed lectures. It seems like he enjoys teaching the material and has good energy. If you have a problem he is great at explaining how things work 1v1 and is approachable during lab time and office hours. If you don't get something just talk to him for a bit and he will guide you to the right place. Look if you have the chance to take any class with him, you gotta take this man's classes.

I had a lot of fun in this class. Brian is pretty patient, considering the type of people he was dealing with in this class (i.e. people asking how he did simple addition in his head). His homework is required and is a good preparation for the tests and quizzes, which tend to be easier if you understood the homework. There were weekly quizzes, two midterms and a final. He could be a little awkward in class with how he explained some concepts, but going to office hours helped a lot in clearing up confusion. Definitely do the homework before office hours because you can't ask homework questions in class on quiz or test days.

Brian is fantastic at teaching, and very patient with students that are confused. His quizzes and tests are fairly easy if you do the homework assignments and understand each math problem. He is also VERY helpful during office hours. I definitely recommend him.

Jones was a good professor. He's not super fun to listen to, but he's straightforward. If you took some algebra in high school, then this class is basically a repeat of some things. He's clear on what he's looking for and sometimes he would mention that certain examples would be on the test, which helps. I studied by doing the problems that he gave us in class and also redoing the homework problems. I definitely recommend this teacher

In the shitstorm that was CPE 202, Brian Jones was a wonderful professor. I went to office hours weekly and he would never seem annoyed to see me again. He was extremely helpful in person and even over email. I love his lecture style, instead of writing notes on the board he will actually code everything all the time which is very helpful. He also has all this code to view on polylearn which is nice for studying! I was never ever bored in his class, he's upbeat and entertaining. I am telling the truth when I say I wish I could have him as a professor for every class for the rest of my college career.

Homework due every week, a quiz every week which are only 10 points and pretty easy, two midterms and a final. First midterm was easy, was a little harder, and final was pretty difficult. He's great during office hours and explains material very well. Take him.
