He's a new teacher at Cal Poly and is a super smart guy. He reads his powerpoints super fast and has the same exact format to every class. For every 2 classes (2-hr each), he discusses one chapter. In addition, you are to have taken notes on the reading which sometimes takes hours. Per chapter you have to complete an online homework assignment. All 9 hw assignments account for 30% of your grade so don't forget to do them!!! Other than that there are 3 exams (CH 1-3, CH 4-6, CH 7-10), the third is your final. Finally, 10% is based on participation (talk sometimes and go to class because every once in a while he'll give an attendance assignment purely to check if you're present). If you study then you're totally fine...leave time to read and take notes though, sometimes it takes longer than expected. Moral of the story: this class with Pompeii is okay, do-able. He is pretty boring, but not too hard. A lot of the material is common sense.

Pompeii is a chill professor who is willing to put in the effort to help you succeed in his class and has a lot of interesting knowledge to offer. On the flip side though, he is not a very understanding guy... After the first midterm I went to his office hours to look over what I got wrong and for one of the questions I missed he agreed with me that is was not fairly worded but passed it off by basically claiming it is only one point and won't hurt my overall score much. He was also quite easily angered during class...for no legitimate reason. Also he may tell you that the tests are based on his lectures but in reality 70% of it is from the weekly readings. Easy class though. Just show up to class, act like you are paying attention, take a few notes, and read the textbook. Oh, and NEVER get caught using your cell phone in his presence!

This guy to me was pretty awesome! He really loves geography and is actually pretty funny! If you study the lecture notes and do the homework you should do just fine.

Dr. Pompeii is a fantastic professor. He clearly knows the material and can express the information in an easily understood way. There is a large amount of reading that has to be done in order to complete the homework and succeed in the class, but it is about an interesting topic IMO. His class was a 2 hour lecture, twice a week, at 7 am in the morning, which for some may not work out, but I went every morning as did not regret it ever. If you get the option to have him as a professor, take the opportunity and I promise you will not regret it.

This class is a pretty easy B. Pompeii is a pretty chill dude and as long as you're not sitting the front using your phone, you don't have much to worry about. Pretty much everyone who shows up to class regularly gets a 100% on participation. If you just cram before the midterms using his powerpoints, you can easily get a B. The answers to the homework assignments on MasteringGeography are online as well.

I had this class at 7am and it was ROUGH. He doesn't regularly split up lectures so staying awake can be very difficult. The material was easy enough and a couple of classes really made me think and question things which I enjoyed. If you go over all the lectures before the exam you'll pass. The homework was slightly frustrating since more often then not it was about material in the book that we were not being tested on. When someone asked homework questions in class he rarely knew the answer. Dr. Pompeii is very passionate about geography however and makes some of the topics much more interesting than I thought they could be

Professor Pompeii was an amazing professor, he was very understanding and he even let me take my midterm late because I came into class an hour late since I slept through my alarm (7 am class) I admit that his class is information heavy, but he certainly made it worth going to. He loves his job and is very qualified for it. If the class wasn't at 7am I probably could've gotten a B, but I ended up with a C+. Overall good class and I learned a lot. Also if you took AP geography or anything involving cultural geography in high school or in other education, this will be extremely easy.

I was not expecting much when I decided to take Intro to Cultural Geography, but Dr. Pompeii pleasantly surprised me this quarter. The material starts off as pretty boring, but as the quarter went on Dr. Pompeii really shone. He is a younger professor who really knows what he is talking about, and the material is actually fairly interesting if you put in some effort to pay attention. Two midterms covering 3 chapters of the textbook, and then a non-cumulative final exam. I would definitely recommend as a D3.

I very much did not like this class. He basically just gets mad about *insert things for liberals to get mad at* and rants on and on about it all class. Screw actually talking about the content. If you like when opinions are presented as absolute fact and not debatable, or if you are liberal (not saying this in a negative way), you will enjoy this class. If you don't qualify for either of these, you will sit there in your chair uncomfortably-- as Dr. Pompeii is not receptive to anything outside his closed mind.

Cultural Geography 2 hour lecture, 2 midterms and a final all evenly spaced, I think it was like each test was on 3 chapters. The book was online but still cost money, and it was this fancy Pearson thing with homework that we had to do, mostly easy homework IF you read the dang book. I had him the first quarter he taught here after coming from Arizona State I believe. Pretty eye-opening and genuinely made me think every single class. Pompeii is awesome and its great when he gets excited and passionate, also he dresses nicely and is not bad to look at very dapper… the tests were okay but you have to take some notes and skim the book at least (but you need to do that for the hw anyways). I could have gotten an A but forgot about some of the online homework, if you set yourself reminders an A is definitely do-able! And you will learn a lot about a very wide range of subjects.. I for one looked forward to this class just don't take at 7am

Brian's awesome. His lectures are usually interesting and he knows his material super well so he isn't just talking straight from the book. He appreciates if you go to class and gives out a good amount of extra credit just for going. His tests are easy if you skim the chapters/powerpoints/ and do the online homework. Not to mention he's pretty good looking...so thats a motivation to go to his lectures. His online homework definitely helps raise your grade so do it! If you need an elective to take i would definitely recommend this one!

Pompeii is cool, kind of grumpy, but cool. Clearly knows what he is talking about and the class was super interesting. Really easy midterms and a non-cumulative final. Just study and go to class and this will be a breeze.

Pompeii is a young guy with tons of enthusiasm for geography! I always looked forward to his class. Although it could get a little boring sometimes (2 hrs, 5 min break), the subject matter is very interesting and Pompeii brings his passion and humor into the lecture. I would definitely recommend taking a class from Brian Pompeii

10/10 would recommend. He may not seem cool and chill at first but the further you go on in the class it gets easier. The class is lightweight boring, but he incorporates different forms of teaching in his lectures to make it more interesting. He also convinced me to become vegatarian so I got something out of his class.

At first I was skeptical about Pompeii's class, I had read some reviews of people saying he was boring and spoke in monotone. And I definitely see what they meant, but if you get used to his flat tone and extremely dry sarcasm, you will really enjoy him. He is very knowledgable in his field and that itself makes his lectures interesting for the most part. He puts all of his powerpoints online so you can access them if you dont want to take notes or miss a class, but I highly recommend taking your own notes because he often goes on rants off the slides that end up being pretty interesting. His tests are fairly easy, I'd say an easy B... make sure to go over your homework questions before because there is often overlap in the homework and tests.

Dr. Pompeii is an awesome teacher because he actually cares about what he is teaching and he is actively involved in geological issues throughout California today. Because of this you can actually learn more through his passion. Also, this class was pretty damn easy overall. You have 3 midterms (the final is weighted the same as the other midterms) and they AREN'T CUMULATIVE!! Huge plus, right? The homeworks are online and you can pretty much get an A on all of them if you put in a little effort (less than an hour each week). Honestly take Pompeii he definitely opened up my eyes to some issues without being completely negative to the world around us. EASY GE!!

Knows his stuff extremely well. He is super nice. He really wants everyone to learn. And the class is super reasonable. You will certainly learn something and you shouldn't ever be stressed out by the class. There is honestly nothing wrong with this teacher.

Prof Pompeii was pretty good. You can tell he is passionate and we had an 8am class which he recognized was hard for a lot of people so he was super chill many times and let us leave early. Overall, I definitely learned a lot however I am not personally interested in the topic so it was super hard to be motivated for the class. I also didn't buy the textbook (it was like $100 or something) but did fine. As long as you do the homework and study for the midterms you will be fine. There are a bunch of Quizlets for the topics on each midterm and the question are literally the EXACT questions on the midterm. He was super cool and a very nice person I just wasn't interested in the topic.

His class is a little boring, but the tests are very easy and there is not a lot of homework. But the homework definitely help!! He is a funny guy and is always in a good mood. It took some time for his personality to show but when it did the class was a lot more enjoyable. Would for sure recommend taking his class :)

This was my favorite GE I've ever taken. Dr. Pomeii is such a cool guy and he has a lot of cool stories. I went to his office hours to talk about my final paper and he really helped guide me in the right direction when I was stuck. We had a really interesting conversation and I could've talked to him for like several hours if I could.

Dr. Pompeii is a fairly good professor; however, it seems he gets easily off tangent with his lectures, as he tends to get enraptured in some sort of injustice that is occurring in the world that kind of pertains to the lectures. He runs a little on the pessimistic side, so he can be hard to listen to, but it is clear that he is very passionate about his work and it incredibly informed on the topics at hand. His lectures are fairly straight forward, he moves a little on the faster side, but all the slides are posted on PolyLearn, and half of your midterm questions will come from the lectures; the other half often comes from the homework. Side note: make sure you do the homework 100% right, your grade is based off of how much you got correct, not on completeness.

I enjoyed Dr. Pompeii's course very much but that might just be because I was interested in it. The grading breaking down was 20% hw, 20% for 3 tests (including the non-cumulative final), 15% short response paper and 5% attendance. If you want 100% on hw, they are on quizlet and often times a chunk (1/3 or even 1/2 of the exams , which are 50 questions. I never wanted to "just get an A", I wanted to learn about the topics he talked about and it actually made me write an English paper on issues in Ghana. I think this class is very applicable to our world and the things he teaches should basically be common knowledge (knowing more about the world instead of just the US). The course along with my AP Envi Sci class in high school helped me become a more conscientious consumer and I think everyone would benefit from this class. Although it is kind of a slow lecture, I enjoyed the course and I honestly would have liked more comprehensive exams to expand my knowledge even more.

Dr. Pompeii is super chill. Lecture can get kind of boring, but he understands that most of us don't really care and he tried to give real-world examples to help relate the material to the class. If you go over the lecture slides and the masteringGeography homework and study area questions, you'll for sure get an A or B on each midterm. There's two midterms and a final, each worth 20%, homework is 20%, attendance and participation is 5%, and then there's an "essay" worth 15% where you have to answer 5 questions in 150-200 word responses. Dr. Pompeii really encourages class participation and questions during lecture, and is always willing to help. I highly recommend you take Pompeii for GEOG 150!!

Pretty good teacher for his first year at cal poly. Easy B if you do the Hw's and study a little for the exams ( 3 in total) including the final. The final isn't really a final it's just basically another midterm. The hw's are all online and were due different days of the week all the time which is what screwed me over and I forgot to do 3 of them which would have given me a B. Attendance is worth 5% but i only went to class a couple times the entire quarter and still got a 80% for attendance. Overall i recommend taking him

Dr. Pompeii is a little boring to listen to but that's mostly because of his tone. He's actually pretty funny if you pay attention. I'm also pretty sure he's a hipster. 308 was a straightforward class. I didn't read the book but got a B, so if you want an A you should read the book. He's very helpful in office hours as well.

Pompeii is great! I had him for grog 308. Although the subject isn't the most interesting, he did his best and had a good sense of humor, making the class bearable. He is really young (24 or 25) and new to teaching, which turned out to be a pretty good thing. This class wasn't too much work at all, a couple exams and a paper plus some map drawings. when preparing for the tests definitely go over the powerpoint (posted on polylearn) and only skim the chapters for main terms/key points. Also he's pretty hot in a nerdy way. I hope to take him for geog 318 because I enjoyed him so much!

Brian is a guy who really knows his stuff and isn't shy about showing it, even through arrogance. He talks about his opinions as fact and won't listen to you if your opinions strays from his. He makes it intimidating if you express conservative beliefs. Oh and he's one of the toughest graders I've had. Other than that he's great!

Pompeii is awesome. I loved the final research project for this class, he clearly cared a lot about it and was excited to help students with it. The labs are based on a textbook and you go through a tutorial that makes it pretty easy to finish the labs and get 100% on them, although they are fairly time consuming. The first midterm is super easy, and the final is similar.
