Margaret was a very entertaining professor to have for my first quarter of college. She cleary did not agree with some of the ways in which the other professors were teaching, so she gave us lots of freedom on projects and would work to make them relateable to our future careers as architects. She may come off as a little stirct and hard to please, but she does her best to set her students up to succeed.

Margaret is a wonderful professor. She is very clear with her expectations and is always ready to give constructive criticism and assistance. I would totally recommend taking Margaret for studio. She is very organized and practical, and has 100% been crucial in my design learning process. Also, she is very understanding of other classes and will change deadlines accordingly for the whole studio (what arch professor actually does that?? She does.) Basically, 10/10 would recommend.

You will learn more in practice class with Margaret than you will with any other professor. She filters out the extraneous information, but at the same time supplements the lectures with her vast knowledge acquired through her many years as a practicing architect. Margaret's professional experience is incredibly valuable during the practice class. She will take every opportunity to teach you something new. You will learn about about the design and construction process, construction methodology, optimizing a building for efficiency. Everyone should try to take Margaret for practice class at least once.

Margaret is awesome! She can be harsh at sometimes but she always keeps it 100. She never sugar coats things. I got confused a lot in the class but I think that was my fault. The work load can be a lot at some times but that isn't any different than any other ARCH studio professor. She is always ready to help and is the nicest person. I definitely recommend her for this class.

Margaret is honestly the most underrated Architecture Professor at Cal Poly..... She may come off as a bit too harsh, but honestly, it comes in very handy for the professional field, as is a lot of her lectures. In fact, she composes her class almost entirely for you to be prepared as a professional. She excels in hand drafting, although she's competent enough in Rhino and AutoCAD to help you with that as well. She is very experienced and know a lot of stuff. She isn't the most abstract professor, tending to be a bit more practical. But her projects really help you better your craft, drafting ability and programming. Also, she has two dogs, Annie and Chama, that she often brings with her to class, which is great. The only reason you shouldn't take her is if you like the color teal. TL;DR Take her. She has dogs.

Margaret has become one of my favorite architecture professors. Her design style and method is a bit different from most of the other Cal Poly professors, so this is why you may have heard bad things about her. However, I found her method of design very logical and applicable to any project and has helped me in the quarters after. My favorite thing about her is how extremely honest she is with your work and tells you exactly where and how to improve. She pushes you just hard enough but also realizes you are human, especially in terms of lowering work load for practice. I love her spunk and attitude which really make a great studio atmosphere. Her grading method is broken down by the numbers which makes it easy to see where you need improvement. I would definitely recommend taking her!

Margaret is a professor who cares very much for her students, their designs, and their success in studio and other classes. She is extremely practical and pragmatic, traits that she picked up during her many years of professional experience. I think this is what sets her apart from many other professors. Many other professors are purely academic, having little or no professional experience. Margaret's background very clearly lends itself to the continual success of her students. Margaret teaches you how to design within reason. Some professors let their students' designs roam free (and consequently are totally theoretical and unbuildable). The buildings that Margaret's students design are always realistic. They are well thought out, carefully detailed, and follow clear design guidelines. Having a strong background in both the design and technical sides of architecture, Margaret aims to teach students how to design within constraints, make projects feasible, and understand how a building can come to fruition. If you plan on working in the field upon graduation, these skills are absolutely crucial to have. In her studio, you will develop your digital skills quite a bit. Margaret tries to prepare people for the professional world; as a result, she pushes for the use of AutoCAD and Rhino as your primary design tools. She is very well versed in these programs and is always willing to help you out or teach you how to use them if you ask. As a professor, she is an incredibly valuable resource. Margaret, to put it simply, is a total homie. If there are tests coming up in other classes, she will try to work deadlines around them so you don't get too overloaded. Her expectation are always clear and reasonable. She prioritizes studio projects over practice projects when needed. Oh yeah, and she brings in her dogs sometimes! Margaret may unfairly get a reputation for being harsh, but let's be real... She is a big softie who loves her students and really cares about them and their success. Honestly, everyone should try to take Margaret's studio at least once.

Margaret gives a terrible first impression. But trust me when I say, TAKE HER. She gives you very helpful info and isn't afraid to criticize a part of you project. She gets a rep for being harsh, but she tends to be much nicer to her actual studio. She is VERY knowledgeable in Architecture and her projects are actually really fun. She also brings her dogs to class to loss, which is like the best thing ever!

She is good at opening your eyes to the reality of what you're signing up for. Sometimes, the method in which she does this seems dark, but always in the best interests of her students. There is no room for naiveness in her studio. Get your things done on a timely manner and take control of your own education, Margaret doesn't expect much more than that. Also, don't be a bitch when she critiques you because she always means well.

The first impression many people have of Margaret is through a harsh review in which she rips you a new one. Don't let this fool you... she really cares about your personal success and that you fully understand even the smallest of concepts. She is extremely knowledgeable and has many years of experience in the profession. She is like a mom to her studio, is one of the most understanding professors I have ever had the pleasure to take, and she will always consider your self interest and well being first. She is honest, and is realistic, but will push you to your design boundaries. She cares deeply about your well being. She brings her two adorable dogs in too, so if you are a dog person like me, that's a big plus!

Must take for every student. Helps you realize that architecture isn't the profession for those who aren't willing to work for it, teaches you how to make a project real, and you'll love her for it.
