What a kike. This guy is new to CP and thinks he runs the department. This class is very disorganized and the exams are difficult because you literally teach yourself everything. Expect to come to class, watch the power points that have been created by the publisher of the book we thoroughly read, and then work on the assigned assignments in class. These assignments can take anywhere from 2-3 so expect to have more hw when you go home. Also, don't bother asking for help because he is useless. Most of the time when we're working on assignments he'll go out of class to grab a sandwich.

Idk what the other comments are talking about. Dave is a good guy and wants his students to do well. He made a couple mistakes but I think it was because this is his first year. Class is super easy material. You learn everything online while dave is just there to help. Easy A.

This new guy seriously does not know how to teach. He literally reads off the publisher's powerpoints without any clarification. Although the work load isn't too much, you don't learn anything. Seriously making me reconsider my IS concentration.

Dave is an extremely friendly, cool guy. This is his first year teaching, and so granted there are a few things he struggles with. Homework isn't too intense as long as you follow directions and TELL Dave if you have any issues! Seriously, Dave is more than willing to work with students and ensure that you understand the material and are being graded fairly so long as you take the effort to open dialogue with him. I don't understand the negative reviews below, Dave really is the most neutral, approachable guy. The class can be slow, but if you do the work and make sure you really understand it, the course is not difficult to get a good grade in. Take Dave, you really won't regret it.

The Simnet assignments were extremely boring and plainly stupid. I hated every moment of it because the system isn't perfect and grading on it is absolutely terrible. Anything that was incorrect from the system version counted as minus points to your overall grade. Also, if you have a macbook without windows partitioned, you won't be able to complete the assignments. Most of the time the instructions for these assignments didn't even show you step by step on where to find functions. Access is a joke. Connect assignments were pretty cool because you could get them wrong but still get full points if you completed the whole assignment from that chapter. The lecture was bland and boring because he just reads off the powerpoint. I hope he has an improved plan for lectures in the future because I felt like going to class was a waste of my time. Class assignments were always too long and there was never enough time to work on the group projects during class.

I had Dave for 391 and 499. I took 499 specifically because I knew he was the professor for that class. For 391- Simnet and connect weren't bad at all and if Simnet messed up grading all you had to do was talk to him and he gave you the points back 90% of the time. He's a nice guy and the classes are both pretty easy.

Dave is OK. Not the best, but not the worst. Right in the middle. By all means, take 391 with him. But, here are a couple reasons why I felt the class was a waste of time. (1) we had weekly assignments online that the textbook publisher made. Remember those unhelpful and time wasting assignments from high school? Yup, that's what you do in this class. 40% of your grade is from these assignments that don't teach you very much, take a long time, and are incredibly boring. It's an insult to our intelligence. (2) The first half of the class is on MS Access. Instead of teaching us how to use Access, we spent the majority of the class time listening to him lecture off slides from the book. (a) thank you, but no thanks. I'm fully capable of reading the textbook myself. I don't need you to spend a whole class session telling me what a hard drive is. (b) it would've been nice for him to actually teach us how to use the software. Dave, if you read this, PLEASE stop lecturing from the publishers slides. Instead, make your own PPT, condense it down to 20 minutes, then do Access exercises with us. And please not the ones you get from the publisher. Make your own! Your smart... you can do it way better and more effectively.

This man is the absolute plug. You can tell he cares about teaching, and cares even more about the students he is teaching to. His class is a little boring at times, but we often have pretty interesting discussions, and watch some interesting videos. The homework load is manageable, and Dave is very fair and helpful. I learned some very applicable skills in this class, you just have to put in a little effort. One of my favorite professors so far, especially a person! Go Cornhuskers! P.S. Do not listen to the hate from the salty people that have nothing better to do with their time than give a huge homie grief.

Dave is the dude!!! The fun, low-pressure environment of his class really helped me effectively learn Excel and Access. Also, his tests and projects are easy if you do the (required) homework and study his powerpoint slides. Definitely would take a class with him again.

Dave was an awesome professor. He was straightforward and to the point in lecture. The team projects were tough but he allowed a lot of time in class for questions and was very helpful and ready to help. His grading system is very fair and puts less stress on midterms and more stress on individual and group projects as well as assignments. I would recommend Kocsis if you are looking for a laid back IS class and like projects more then tests.

Workload- very manageable. We had connect and Simnet assignments every week, but the connect assignments can be easily done using quizlet. His lectures, though sometimes kind of boring, cover all of the material on the tests. The midterms consist of a multiple choice section and a computer section (Access for 1st half, Excel for 2nd half). They were very straightforward. He had in class exercises, which were basically short reflections on what we're learning or your opinion on an article etc. He was very understanding, and is a chill teacher. He genuinely cares about his students and how they do. He'll stay after class to help you with your group projects if you need it.

Honestly, this class is super easy. If you don't get an A it's because you honestly just did not try hard enough. Go to class, do the work and you'll have an A. Yes, he isn't the best professor and sometimes it sounds like he doesn't know what he might be talking about, but he cares about the students in the class.

Dave's class was great! Initially dreaded that I would be taking it over the summer for only 5 weeks. It wasn't bad at all. The class could get a little boring sometimes, but hey it's a 4 hour class. Dave seems to care a lot for his students and grades fairly. The class isn't an easy A, you do have to put in some work, but an A is very attainable. Material for the midterm and final exam was presented clearly. Overall a great class!

Professor Kocsis was one of the best teachers I've had at Cal Poly so far! He is both a great teacher and a really nice person as well. He has a great teaching style which is very straightforward and easy to understand. His powerpoint objectives give you a clear idea of what to study for the midterm and final exam. He gives plenty of opportunities to earn points in class so if you miss a few on the tests you are still in good shape. Overall great class, would recommend anyone to take it.

I love Kocsis! He keeps the material very easy to understand and has a lot of in-class labs for the different softwares and programs you use so you can practice. He gives a lot of great resources that outline all of the projects and take-home labs and really wants his students to succeed. He is always willing to help and just about everything you learn in his class will be very much tangible for a future career. Highly recommend this professor!

Dave is the man. This class is pretty easy, with a midterm being 17% and final being 20%. The final is not cumulative and he basically tells you what is on each test. I hardly studied for the midterm and got an 87%, so as long as you go to class, pay attention, and complete the assignments/quizzes (which are all online) you will ace it. He also gives you an option to get 10 points of extra credit. The hardest part about this class is the group project, which he actually grades kind of harshly. However, this class is relatively easy and an easy A. Also Dave is really really cool.

Kocsis is the best. He walks you step by step through the material. It was a lot of work at points but I feel I actually learned in his class and it was applicable to life outside of class. His expectations were clear and fair and I 100% recommend taking him. I didn't read the textbook at all in his class but you do need to by simnet. connect was also unnecessary I never touched it.

Ive had friends in other IS classes bitch and complain about their professors cuz they sucked. I would tell them how they should've taken Dave's class. Easy to talk to, always available to help. 1st test is on Access, Final is on Excel, nothing difficult. Take him

KOCSIS IS THE BEST ONLY TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HIM!!!! He makes what should be a hard subject easy to understand and even interesting. Your grade is a midterm, non-cumulative final, quizzes, homework, and 3 projects. He also offers extra credit. This class takes a good amount of work outside of class simply because the homework takes a while but you really do learn a lot and the class is pretty easy. Dave loves his students and wants them to do well. He replies to emails fast, is available to answer questions, and is flexible with your individual needs.

I wish every professor had their class set up like Kocsis! This was my favorite class thus far! It's easy and you'll actually learn/retain material. He's a very helpful and caring professor and took the time to remember everyone's name. This is what the class bascially consisted of: 1 midterm, 1 final, 3 group projects, simnet homework, and occasional online quizzes. The only thing that sucked is that I never used the book but the simnet comes with the book that was sold at the bookstore which was essential for doing the homework assigned. I didn't really read and got an A & B on the tests. He tells you exactly what to study for the tests so I would just read the sections he told us to focus on but I think you could do fine with just the powerpoint slides and in class notes. Midterm & final consisted of MC and a computer portion of Access for the midterm and Excel for the final. It was open note, book, and internet for only the computer portion of the tests which is cool if you blank out on something but do study! The projects were enjoyable and pretty easy because my group was really good . He makes you do a group bonding activity at the beginning of the quarter so you can bond with them which I thought was helpful to build relationships. HW was easy don't worry about it. First half of class is Microsoft Access and second half is Microsoft Excel. For "harder" material from Access and Excel he would walk you through in class exercises to teach you how to do it. He's awesome! Take him if you want an easy class and learn very valuable material!

This class was an elective for the Info Systems concentration for business, and this was the first time it was offered. Kocsis tries so hard to make the most boring and common sense material fun but fails at it miserably. He talks UNTIL THE LAST SECOND of the two hour class period which makes everyone fidgety and agitated. He will literally wait for two minutes in silence just to go the whole two hours. The material itself is a joke. It's everything we've all heard about teamwork and collaboration and leaders since we were in 5th grade. The textbook is a small hardback book thats more like something an old businessman would read to try and be hip with the youngins. The class is made up of a quarter-long group project about another company, pop quizzes and weekly homework assignments that take 11 seconds max. Every girl online shopped in class and got 9/10s when the quizzes came up. ALL IN ALL RIDICULOUSLY EASY but so extremely boring save yourself and learn something cooler. FUCK THINKLETS.

Kocsis is a good guy! Though this class may seem easy the material covered is valuable to your career. When you get hired for a certain job they can teach the skills you need in order to carry out your tasks but they don't teach how to work well in a team (which is what all businesses do nowadays). In his lectures you may already know what is being covered but it is important to be reminded of it nonetheless. The textbook also provided a lot of useful information and I recommend actually reading it (not just skim it). Overall I think this class is worth taking.

Kocsis is awesome!! Great guy, super nice and very approachable. He feels more like a friend than a professional in class. The class is cool but I'm actually going to complain that the class wasn't hard enough. Kocsis really doesn't demand enough out of his students!! Kocsis, make your class harder! Students stopped coming to class around week 5, which is sad. If you're taking the class for your IS concentration, you should really want to get the most out of it. So yes, it's a very easy class. There's a quarter long group project that you really don't have to put much effort into to pull out an A. Great guy, but needs to assign a bit more (and relevant) coursework.

I don't know why there are so many negative polyratings- Kocsis is a great teacher who cares about his students. If you are doing badly in the class, he is more than willing to help you out. He also offers extra credit points unlike most teachers, and curved our exams when we complained about a few unfair questions that were on it. Dave is honestly a homie. This was his first year at Cal Poly and he's already way better than McQuaid. He's kind of a nerdy guy like every other IT guy is, but he's cool, his material isn't really too hard, and he's very transparent. He's also totally down to exchange jokes with students in the middle of lecture. The stuff I learned is going to be very useful for my resume and for my future IT career.

Midterm seemed kind of difficult and I honestly bullshitted most of the free response but he graded it very leniently and I actually did pretty well. DAVE ROCKS. He is honestly one of the best professors I've had at poly. Between him, Burleson, and Barry the IS concentration is pretty solid. He is super helpful and always responds to emails and makes himself available for help when needed. I think he did a great job explaining the material and gives you plenty of resources to prepare for tests. HW is lengthy but only one assignment is assigned every few weeks so if you work on it as you go it's completely do-able.
