Absolutely do not take this professor. I've never hated my major so much in my life. The comment below mine is completely correct, she expects you to come to conclusions on your own and gives you no means of coming to those conclusions. Lectures are completely pointless, and I went to most of them. Projects and labs do not correlate to lecture or textbook material AT ALL and ultimately your projects will destroy your grade. Unfair grading system and completely inconsistent. She is not helpful in office hours and will not boost your grade AT ALL once it's posted, no matter how well you demonstrate that you actually know the information, are growing as a student, etc. I've never taken such a terrible course in my life and if it weren't for several advisors I would have changed majors.

Meera Jani is a terrible teacher simply put. This is the first quarter she has taught CPE 101 and it should be the only. She treats the class as if you should already understand Python. I don't know if she realizes this is an intro class, but she definitely did not present the material at an intro level. Pilling on to the garbage is her lack of understanding of student's struggle. Instead she awkward chuckles and continues on teaching when the class clearly understands nothing she just said. Never take a class with this teacher if you can.

The definition of an average professor, teaches straight from the book and puts together moderately useful powerpoint slides summarizing the book, but its more about the course teaching you than her doing it.

Professor Jani is not the worst professor at Cal Poly and not the best, either. She presented all of the material clearly and I understood all of it just fine while barely having to pay attention, but she was extremely boring. The class I was in was completely dead every time she tried to get us to participate. I found that I was one of three students to ever answer her questions regularly. Most people in that class used the time to sleep. It was honestly so difficult sitting there while she would wait for students to respond to her every time she asked a question, no matter how simple because no one would answer her. I'm not sure how well other people did in the class and if they didn't do well it was likely that it was because they were asleep. It's possible that I did well because I have experience with programming even though I didn't have experience with Python. The projects could be a little tricky, but I never had to ask her for help so I'm not sure how good she is at helping students. Her tests weren't that difficult. It was mostly interpreting what a piece of code does, providing a definition for something we learned in class, and writing a bit of code ourselves. I never even looked at the textbook so I couldn't really review that either. Overall, my advice is to pay attention and try not to fall asleep on her. She's really too nice to get mad at her classes, so please just give her a break.

HORRIBLE TEACHER!!!!!! EXPECTS YOU TO KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING EVEN THOUGH THIS IS A 101 CLASS!! REALLY WANTS YOU TO COME TO THE ANSWER YOURSELF BUT YOU REALLY CANT DO THAT BECAUSE SHE DOESN'T TEACH YOU ANYTHING. LECTURES ARE STRAIGHT FROM THE TEXTBOOK. ALSO SHE ASSIGNS LABS AND PROJECTS ON THINGS YOU WILL LEARN AFTER THEY ARE DUE SO THAT'S JUST PEACHY. ABSOLUTELY DON'T TAKE HER CLASS!

Whatever you do…AGREE with her on ALL issues, praise her and tell her she is the greatest, fall down to your knees and worship her, then maybe, just maybe you might make a C. I lied that wont happen either because she wont show no sympathy on your grade. When I actually do go to class, halfway through i begin to hate God for giving me the legs that brought me there. Thus, i stopped going to class towards the end of the quarter because she expected you to learn python on your own!! She has no clue what shes talking about and her lecture slides are basically everything out of the book she assigns which is stupid. Dont take her unless she is the last professor open, otherwise you will regret wasting your money on this monotone idiot.

Don't take this professor. Not even if she's the last professor on the list - DON'T TAKE HER! She is completely incompetent, NOT understanding of student difficulties AT ALL. If you have an error in your code, she won't help you fix it, and, if PolyLearn malfunctions during submission and she decides to give you a 30% on a project she DOES'NT CARE and will NOT change the grade REGARDLESS of whether it's her fault or not. She is incredibly awkward, both in lecture and office hours. She won't help you, she won't teach you, and she WILL ruin your GPA and crush your dreams.

Well, what can I say.. Jani is not really a good teacher. For being a 101 class, there was a lot of things that you had to know prior to taking this class with her. If you don't, you're pretty much fucked from day one as she doesn't cover topics well. You do get an extra percent to your entire quarter grade for each lab you get 100% on. I wish I took better advantage of this. Her midterms weren't difficult. The projects, which are shared with other 101 classes, are very difficult because Jani does not give resources like the other professors do. Furthermore, her material does not prepare you at all for the projects. Other professors had extra resources on how to build an algorithm for a project, Jani did not give us any other help. After talking to her during office hours, I was still left with the same problem as she probably can not properly create a solution to the problem. Finally, her class screwed me over for the final. I had maintained a 95%+ all quarter and I bombed the final. I got a 65 and got a B+ in 101. If you're going to take her for 101, just be prepared to do a lot of self learning or prior learning.

Actually the worst teacher I've had in my 12+ years of school, her English is subpar, she understands very little of python/python syntax, her lectures read straight out of the book(examples and all), her exams are childs play but she will mark you down for the smallest mistakes. I could go on and on; bottom line DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. If she does not lose her job by the end of the year I will seriously be disappointed with this school.

Easily one of the worst teachers I have ever had. The problems that she gives are from an outdated book, and the site is one of the worst things I have ever had to deal with. We have to do a bunch of book problems every week, which teach me nothing and take hours every week, and this is on top of programming assignments. Her lectures are dreadfully boring, she is utterly unhelpful in labs, and everything she does comes straight from the book. Seriously avoid her if you can she's awful.

PLEASE don't waste your time with this professor unless you want to be stuck doing bullshit busy work and typing code into Microsoft Word while not learning anything whatsoever and being incapable of doing simple programming labs. This course will make you hate computer science and it will crush your dreams.

Avoid at all costs. The homework and labs are a complete waste of time and do not make you a better programmer whatsoever. Lectures are straight out of the book, Jani seems to be learning the material as she teaches it. Midterms are far too technical and do not evaluate your knowledge of the material. By the end of the quarter, you will be far behind students in other sections and will fail the common final and struggle in 103. No weekly projects to help you master the language, just a pointless group project which you complete by googling the syntax for everything since she doesn't teach you how to do any of the things you need for the project. She needs to be fired, teaching is not her calling.

Jani wasn't bad, the lectures, labs, and homework assignments were all very repetative. The homework was designed that you had to read the chapter, even if you already knew the material. The questions were extremely specific and was about 30 questions a week (1-2 hours of work). Labs were also very repetitive, 10 questions a week, taking around 3-4 hours. You would design a program, then the next assignment would ask you to do a similar task, but changed enough so that you still had to rewrite the program. All in all its a very easy class, if you do all the busy work you will get an easy A. I'm not sure how much will stick with you though. I got lazy and stopped doing my work and got a C, but my grades were all either 100% or 0%. So not the worst class, the concepts aren't too difficult even for someone new to java. Good luck.

Do not take this class, ESPECIALLY if you are new to programming and have limited experience with Java. Lectures are pointless (reading directly from the book) homeworks are busy work and time consuming and do not help you actually learn the material. Be prepared to teach yourself the material. This did not prepare us for the common final and strayed from the material all the other classes were covering!

Overall Meera is a kind lady but a terrible teacher, she requires a text book because that is the only way you will learn anything if you take her for 102, Her lectures are a terrible cocktail of boring, awkward and confusing. her exams do not mirror any problems you might have seen on the homework, mostly because the homework does not require you to think what so ever and is just mindless busy work, Last she will give you a bad grade on the course project even thought you exceed all her requirements simply because it is not a production quality product.

The book work assigned every week provide little to no help in understanding the Java language and is literally just busywork. Labs come with pre-written code and also unclear instructions (that often refer to an OUTDATED version of the book) do not help you practice the language. Avoid this professor at all costs, even if it means taking the course next quarter. If you do happen to get this professor, consider bookmarking Google ASAP.

Her labs were very informative, easy to follow, and useful. They made the coursework too easy however and her tests became very difficult for most of the class. She said she would curve the class, and I feel like she did but I have no idea how that went because I did pretty well most of the quarter (felt like I was in the top group) except for one of the midterms and only ended up with a B+. Definitely do a lot of self-studying because the lectures can be rather monotonous and PowerPoints come from the textbook. This being said, she is certainly kind and fair so you have to at least always be appreciative of that, and there are opportunities to do fine in this class. Don't stress.

See seems really nice during the quarter and the coding assignments are long but not difficult. I had 100% on all programming and lab assignments. However the midterms were hard. She said she would curve the class which she did but not as as we expected she would, as most teachers when they say curve it means you will get a grade higher than what your percentage grade shows. This was not the case in this class. She actually really did curve the class with a bell curve. She lowered my 79% to a C-.

Professor Meera was very understanding of student concerns, and understood the college student's work load. Lectures were based off of annotated PowerPoint slides which were uploaded to PolyLearn each week. She did a lot of review in class to prepare students for tests. That being said, the tests were extremely hard and difficult. There were two exams (week 6, week 9) and a common final. No quizzes or homework sets. There were two easy labs a week and one harder project every two weeks or so. Overall pretty easy class and Professor Meera is a really nice person!
