Mayer, Frances  

Dr. Mayer is usually very sweet and nice. She is kind of grandmotherly. The class is not generally too difficult, even though there are tests every 2-3 weeks. She usually goes over the material or takes questions right before the tests. There are no big "midterms" and the final is a paper about educational case studies that we go over in class throughout the quarter. Unfortunately, she is not very good at explaining terminology, and often switches terms mid-sentence. She might make you feel a little dumb for asking questions in class. Essays are graded very harshly. Attendance is mandatory, and even if you miss class for a Cal Poly sporting event, points will be taken off your grade. There is absolutely no such thing as an excused absence, even for having mono. You can make absences up with extra essays though. In all this class is doable, but try to get the other professor if you can.

I love Frances! She is the sweetest, cutest old thing. She doesn't seem as old as she is. She is super cool! She really wants everyone to pass and succeed. She is easy to talk to and very friendly. Her lectures can get a little confusing, but she would spend a whole class on answering questions if needed. I highly recommend her! I wish I had her as my professor for every class!

I'm not sure why Dr. Mayer's rating is so low. I've had her for both EDUC 207 and CD 350, and really enjoyed both classes. She is extremely sweet and understanding. She likes to call herself an LOL (Little Old Lady) and has funny stories to tell. Additionally, she has a ton of experience in the field. The classes are easy, because she wants you to know and apply the material, not be able to test well. It would be hard to not get an A in the class if you show up. Personally, I loved Dr. Mayer and feel that she really cares about her students as people (she even checked in with me a couple of times when I had to delay an assignment for a personal matter). I'm sad that I can't take her for EDUC 300, 427, or 428!

Seriously the cutest little grandma you will ever have as a professor. I'm not sure why her rating is so low; she really cares about her students and does everything she can to make sure they succeed in her class. Also, this class is really very easy. As long as you show up to most of the class meetings and participate, you'll be fine. Very hard to not get an A.
