While Professor Magur is a nice man, he has great difficulty teaching his students physics. When he lectures (1hour 4x a week), he speaks to the board, without explaining what he is writing. When asked a question regarding the material he presents, he either restates the info in the confusing way he did before or starts speaking on something completely off topic! His weekly quizzes and exams are open note - but the notes he gives are WORTHLESS because he does not test from his lecture or from the textbook. He also assigns homework that does not apply to the quizzes or exams. No matter how hard I study (for an OPEN NOTE test), it still does not help. I DO NOT recommend Prof. Magur because he cannot present the material needed to pass his class. If this doesn't mean anything - just know that nearly 3/4 of our class is failing!

This class is a waste of time and tuition money. The lectures, homework, and the book are not what he gives quizzes and exams on. His lectures are pointless because he can't explain ANYTHING. He'll expect you to know how to work out completely foreign material on tests, which are things that he'd never covered in class, wasn't in the homework, and wasn't in the book. All I have to say is UNFAIR. How are we supposed to do well on tests if we're not given correct (if any) material to study for??? Nobody is given a fair chance in this class. THIS IS PHYSICS104-ELEMENTARY PHYSICS, NOT SOME HIGHER LEVEL PHYSICS CLASS. It seems like he is trying to fail the entire class, which he's doing a damn good job of right now.

Do not take Magur. He is a nice old man, but still is an old man. His tests are not what he lectures. From getting A's in High school physics, the same material is now so fucked up, it is too funny. We just laugh at this guy..................

He spends 1.5 hours out of a 3 hour lab period explaining what we need to do. By the time we start on the lab, we don't even have that much time to do anything. Doesn't give clear explanations when he is asked questions. Just about 3/4 of the class gets their lab reports returned because of reasons unknown. A nice guy, but to have him for lab may not be the best idea.

This guy is a joke. He can't explain crap, yet he must take pride in trying because he spends so long babbling and repeating himself. If you ask him a question, he'll go off about something that has nothing to do with your question. The lab manual makes sense, he does not, so there's no need to listen to him. He returns many lab reports for ridiculous reasons, but he does let you fix what you did wrong for full credit. It's not hard to get a decent grade in this class, it's just a pain to put up with this crazy old man. I feel sorry for those who have him for the lecture. If I were you...I would avoid this guy at all cost. You'll detest the class, we do.

Writes problems on the board but does not explain his steps. It seemed like he was assuming people already knew physics notations. Not a good teacher.

This guy is the worst!!!! He simply can't teach. He writes notes and talks to the board, assuming that everybody knows what he's doing. He wastes an unbelievable amount of time, and when asked questions he'll talk about something that has nothing to do with what you asked- he's waaaay out there... just stick with learning from the book if you're unfortunate enough to have to take him....

Very slow old man, but he is nice. I didnt find this class difficult at all. Just pay attention and you will do fine. True that he doesnt explain things very well the first time, but he is not too difficult to please.

Lee Magur is a nice old man, but if he got into a boxing ring opposite a vending machine, he would lose terribly. In the race of the tortise and the hare, Lee Magur would be a tree. Now apparently, he retired and came back to teach again, but doesn't quite have the energy of Michael Jordan, if you catch my drift. Hard to understand at times, but the good news is, if you screw up on a lab, Lee gives you a chance to correct it and resubmit. I also had the fortune of getting a lab partner who lives three doors down from me, so it was easier to do the write-ups at home; this isn't exactly a class to meet new people in.

This guy will spend an unnecessary amount of time explaining, giving handouts, reading the lab, and he will have repeated himself at least three times before you actually start the lab. He is nit-pickity about proper formatting of your data and write up. I think we had to re-do at least half our labs. It's not like I'm bad at physics, I got a 5 on the AP test (but the records office would't take it). There isn't anything 'bad' about this guy, but I just didn't enjoy his lab or his style of teaching.

Jesus H. Christ! This guy needs to drink some coffee before class or take a snort of cocain. He always waits until 20 past the hour to start (He's 10 minutes behind the rest of the universe I guess.) He isn't a bad guy, but he has so many annoying little "quirks", that it drives everyone crazy. He is more picky than any other teacher I've seen when it comes to lab reports. When he is outlining the lab's procedures he is VERY CONFUSING. He bumbles and goes nowhere! It's futile to ask him any questions as he will just start bumbling and go nowhere (as mentioned). Do yourself a huge favor and HEED THESE WORDS. Don't take him just because lab spots are open; there is a reason people haven't taken them!
