The teachers (Lucas, Shields, Sattler) all split the class into three sections and each teach their own. Over all, they all had way to high expectations for what students knew, could do, and were willing to put in. If youre really into learning about the flow of places and how humans interact with them, you'll do good, but if youre just taking this as a GE, do a different class. That being said, as long as you do all the work, youll get a B or an A

She is used to teaching for a semester system and cannot teach for a quarter system at all. Hopefully she improves on this because she has a long way to go. Overall, she is not a very nice person who thinks she is better than her students. She is very condescending. She only really cares about how her students' work reflects on her rather than her students' academic advancement. She picks favorites (even if her favorites don't like her at all). It really says something that the entire class hated her. Don't take her!

If you take Meredith, it's going to be a LOOOONG studio. Her studios feel longer than usual. She gives lectures that are suppose to be "short" but they end up being 2 hours long. Believe me, she is very knowledgable but she goes on and on about the same things. She's all about the iterations and sometimes it feels like there's no meaning behind what she's making us do. Very hard grader who expects both quantity and quality. She wastes so much studio time talking, when most of us could have been working. You are not allowed to take breaks in class / you have to ask for her permission because she's afraid you might miss something important. Meredith came from the semester system so she's trying to cram all of that into one quarter. I'm sure she can be a great professor but she needs to understand how Cal Poly works and how to manage her timing. Not recommended, but maybe if she gets better in the future.

She help me understand architecture in a way that no other prof has done thus far. She is super knowledgable about architecture and spends loads of time outside of studio to give us advice and redlining drawings. That being said she also expects you to push yourself in studio, but isnt this why we take studio? These other students dont know what there talking about.

Meredith is easily the best studio professor I've had at Cal Poly. She does give a large workload and really pushes you, which can get stressful and annoying at times, BUT in terms of learning, she is absolutely amazing. She gives very helpful feedback, and she gets you to start thinking about design in a way that you probably otherwise wouldn't until Spring of 3rd year (or so I've heard). She encourages you to push boundaries but also to help ground you in reality and how the building might actually be built. The key is to trust her instead of complaining and giving up and using her as an excuse to not do well. Also, one of the best things about Meredith is her approach-ability and dedication to your success. She is very easy to approach and talk to, she will give you helpful feedback and point out your mistakes without making you feel bad about yourself. And she will go above and beyond to be available for you, especially around review times. The night before our review she said she would stay with us until 4am if we needed her to. Her studio focuses a lot on design, design processes, and analog representation. If you want to be a better designer, take her. She is difficult, but 100% worth taking.

First off, Meredith is the most educated professor of the studio teaching team and when she taught my studio she was balancing completing her masters and phd thesis. You wouldn't have been able to tell she had all of this on her plate. She does struggle to get to everyone for desk crits in a session but she would try and come into studio on the weekend or stay late to make sure students were talking to her. Is good at finding precedents to look at and isnt a hardass about deliverables. She often gives specific directions to start you off but is down with you altering them to better fit your project when you justify it to her.

She is smart, approachable, and helpful. 10/10 would recommend. These other students need to stop complaining.

Let me start by saying that Meredith absolutely does not understand the quarter system. She came from teaching at a semester school and has no clue how little time we have during the quarter to accomplish the insane amount of work we're assigned at Cal Poly. She also didn't study architecture for her undergrad and personally I don't see how someone can teach they've never been through. As a 307 lecturer, she's very knowledgable but presents the material in the most boring manner possible. As for architecture and studio life, she's clueless. I hope that in a few years she finally gets what this architecture program is all about, because she does have valuable knowledge, but she has a LONG way to go before then.
