Poshtan seems passionate about teaching and really wants his students to do well. He does his best to lecture in a way that everyone will understand. Unfortunately, he does not cover much material in the course. If you want to truly learn anything you must teach yourself most of the course. His exams are straight forward, but are lengthy so you have to work very fast.

Ah Poshtan. He does really care about his students, and has the ability to teach in a very easy to understand way, but I would not recommend him for a few reasons. The start of the course was great. He took the material at a good pace, explained things well, and the homework was reasonable (if anything too little). However as the quarter progressed I think he realized he wasn't getting through the material he was supposed to cover, so he started to speed up drastically. By week 4 or so he stopped assigning homework, and I started to get lost in his lectures. Being new he didn't quite know what we did and didn't know before the start of this class, and so after the first few weeks you really had to learn the material outside of class, which I just didn't have time for last quarter. He would stop in the middle of examples and get the class to participate, but only a few people who had EE background outside of Poly were able to answer, and he assumed the whole class was following. He graded pretty harshly on the exams, and expected perfection. I think this guy has a lot of potential here, but for now I'd take someone else.

This class was all over the place. There were maybe 4 homework assignments, 2 of which were us writing a 1 page essay on a topic, the other 2 were a single problem that took 5 minutes. There were no quizzes, instead partner "Classwork" assignments (he always tells you the types of questions). Make sure you pay attention to his analogies in lecture as they appear on the midterm/final exam. If my class had taken the Shaban final we would've gotten a 0, but Poshtan's exams were a breeze.

I really want to like Poshtan. He's a nice guy, but he fails to follow curriculum and now I am screwed for EE 255. He rambles on with his analogies and takes a strictly conceptual approach to teaching the class, then screws us over with numerical questions which he didn't teach and just told us to read the textbook. I don't recommend. He cares about his students, but just don't.

Didn't really learn in this class. Really has stupid analogies. Does genuinely care about his student's success, just can't provide a platform for them to actually succeed at the moment.

Poshtan, is a very nice professor. It was his first quarter here, so he didn't understand some things about the school, but overall I think he got better as the quarter went on. There was very little to no homework, the homework we did get mainly involved writing one to two page papers on conceptual topics (eddy currents for example) instead of working out problems. This didn't stop me from learning a lot in the class, he's fairly straight forward when explaining concepts and working through problems. He does however have analogies for days, you'll get at least two per lecture and their sometimes hit or miss if you can understand them. The midterm was fair and I expect the final to be as well. Overall he's a really nice guy and I'd recommend him.

Professor Poshtan is terrible at teaching. I learned nothing this quarter, but had to attend class for possible quizzes or classwork. I would strongly suggest to take someone else for this course. It's a horrible experience with this professor.

Dr. Poshtan is one of the best teachers in the EE department. The way he explains the material is so clear and it really shows that he knows what he is teaching. All the homework I did in this class was a breeze because listening to him during class was all the studying I needed to do in this class. His midterms were straightforward, and he is really helpful in his office hours. Definitely take this professor if you want to know your material

The previous three Feb-2018 comments are obviously from the same person, prof. poshtan can be described as average at best, doesnt cover the material well, very surface level, easy exams though, friendly guy

I really loved what Poshtan does with his classes. Im not the most analytical EE there is, but the way he explains the concepts really resonates with me. On top of that, there isn't a lot of homework and the tests are really self-explanatory Ohm's law. Highly recommend.

This was my second time taking Dr. Poshtan as I had him for EE 212 as well. Poshtan is a funny guy who does a good job engaging with his students. This class is definitely harder than his 212, but it's evident that he wants all his students to succeed. A lot of people did poorly on the second exam, as a result he offered test corrections worth 2.5 points on a 25 point exam, gave an extra credit question that would boost your grade by one third of a letter grade (i.e. B to B+) and if you did better on the final (not comprehensive) then he'd increase your midterm score. The grading structure of this course was quizzes, homework and classwork was 25%, and 3 exams each worth 25%. There were maybe 2/3 homework assignments (never more than a single question), 2 quizzes and 2 classworks (these are always similar to in class examples). If for some reason you miss a classwork or quiz, which you shouldn't since they are announced in advance, he'll let you give a presentation on the topic the following class for credit. He is approachable during office hours and answers any questions students have. With minimal effort this class is pretty much a free B. Overall you'll learn less than you would with another professor like Shaban or Dirk. If you don't want to go into power then Poshtan is the guy for you.

Poshtan is a really great person. That doesn't necessarily reflect his teaching abilities, but you can tell that the genuine heart is in the right place. Has very silly analogies, but somehow they do make sense if you think hard about them.

Poshtan is the man for a few reasons: As an ME, I don't remember anything from EE 201 (especially three phase power), but he moves the class at a slower and in-depth pace compared to other sections. His final exam is the first exam I've taken at Poly that isn't cumulative. I learned a great deal about motors and machinery, but I probably won't be using any of that moving on, that'll be for the EEs. I got an A- and didn't have to try so hard, so Poshtan is a homie in book

Poshtan is an awesome lab professor. I would highly recommend taking him for a lab. He is extremely chill, grades easily on lab reports, has a shortened lab, and is very entertaining in class. His labs begin with a lecture, which lasts for most of the lab (1-1.5 hours), but after that the lab itself only takes about 15 minutes because he goes over it and the theory behind it in class. HIGHLY recommend taking Poshtan for lab, and I hope I get to take him again. Also, he is hilarious, and has me laughing most of his lectures, which are even better than my actual lecture professor.

I spent about 6 hours for this class for the entire quarter outside of class. Homework, studying for midterms, and studying for the final included. No exaggeration. It was his first quarter at Poly, but he literally taught us nothing. He talked about the same basic analogies day after day. I skipped around 40% of the classes, and was doing other things during 95% of the classes I attended. There were three out of class homework assignments, and two of them were "write a paragraph about... (some type of controls)". I went to Wikipedia and spent 5 minutes writing something. For the (only) midterm, he spent the lecture before going over a few examples, which were exactly what the test was. For the final, he sent out some PDFs of examples literally 24 hours before the test. He got these examples by LITERALLY Googling "state space transfer function", clicking the FIRST link, and hitting print. The FINAL EXAM was VERBATIM (word for word, number for number) these examples. I'm serous try it right now, those are the problems, solutions, and answers to his final exam. The amount of laziness that this professor exhibited was sickening.

This professor has an unmatched enthusiasm for teaching and a refreshing teaching philosophy. He thinks that evaluating students' ability to apply information is more effective than traditional testing. This being said, there was a single midterm and a final that included conceptual questions, from topics discussed in lecture, as well as examples very similar to preparatory material provided. There aren't too many assignments for the class, their descriptions are open ended and require independent research. This is awesome if your are excited about the material, because you can learn a lot about the class topics and focus on particular aspect that interest you; however, he is an easy grader and this means lazy students can breeze through the assignment with minimal effort. He wanted all students to grasp the material and this made his lecture rather repetitive for the beginning portion of the quarter. Toward the end, his lectures improved; he began speeding up and going through more worked out examples. The final project for the class was similar to other assignment, open ended, however it needed to incorporate MATLAB. This professor has an admirable personality, a bunch of technical experience and potential to be a top lecture in the EE department. Visit his office, ask questions and you will get detailed answers. You get what you give in this class.

The homie Poshtan will help you setup your lab if you are stuck. I felt like on some days I would understand what was going on, and some days utterly confused. I had him for lecture before and he was laid back in his lecturing style. The same could be said for lab. He goes tryhard hard mode on you (grading-wise) on the final, similar to his lecture classes. Overall take him if you want a mostly chill lab. He has a cheerful personality

Take this class if you have a chance. Dr. Poshtan is super enthusiastic and passionate about DC/AC machine topics which is what this class is all about. He focuses on the new type of motor that are used in electric car and robot. He is down to earth and very inspiring. He loves to give examples to explain the technical concept which is extremely helpful. His grading policy is also very generous. He always tries to encourage the students to learn more and get interested in the subject rather than striking for a good grade. HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM.
