This class is an easy A. I only got a B because Prado was unbelievably boring that I lost the motivation to even try in the class. It was such a waste of time that I even considered switching my major. This might sound extremely dramatic but listening to Prado drone on for 3 hours about his experience on the Tribune (SLO's newspaper) and having us take down notes on the easily accessible AP Style book was painful. I learned more from the textbook than from him, I actually found the book more interesting and engaging than Prado. At the same time I took Prado's class, a friend of mine took Loving's class-infamously known for the large amount of work and difficulty. Even though she had such a harder time in Loving's class and had so much more work, I still wished I was in that class. She learned more about reporting and her writing improved. So if you're looking for an easy A then take Prado, but being a Cal Poly student you should really focus on becoming better and more skilled in your major.

Prado's pretty cool. He's nice, enthusiastic, generally knowledgeable, and has clear expectations about what he wants you to learn/know. He's also reasonably understanding about a lot of things, (also if you fuck up and don't turn stuff in on time.) He will talk endlessly on any subject that you bring up. Dude looooves to talk.

Tony can be a little boring but if you at least act interested, he'll love you. He's the nicest guy I've ever known and works with you with anything you need. He makes the material super easy to understand and takes baby steps, which can be frustrating because it can be way too easy at times, but makes the subject clear and concise. Easy class & super cool professor.

I am sorry if you have Prado as a professor. You will not learn much about journalism or how to be a better writer. However, you will learn how to sit through 3 hours of him rambling on twice a week about whatever nonsense is rolling around in his head. While he is a nice guy and his class is super easy to pass it is insufferable to go to. The only reason I received a C is because of my "participation" grade which was an F because I couldn't bring myself to roll out of bed at 8 a.m. and sit in a cold room with 20 other students that all looked like they wanted to flee the building. Good luck with him...you've been warned.

This class is very easy to get an A in if you go to all the classes, pay attention to his lectures, and act a little interested. He’s pretty easy on grading. He will do anything to inflate your grade. And he’s super understanding about everything! If you need to miss class because of some lame excuse, he’ll let you, and totally not ding your grade for it. He’s a really nice guy! Also, if you have questions about anything on your papers, he will go to the ends of the earth to help you. His lectures can be a little boring because he loves to talk about anything and everything, but you still end up getting out an hour early most days. Overall, a pretty easy class to ace if you put in minimal effort. My favorite moment with Prado: Him: *gives feedback on essay* Me: “So when is the final draft due?” Him: “Oh! I already gave you an A”

I was randomly scrolling through my old professors' PolyRatings, and noticed that Prado had a pretty low rating. I was honestly SHOOK because Prado is still, to this day, in my top 3 favorite professors at Poly. This class is not interesting whatsoever, but Prado is a class-A kind of guy. Honestly one of the nicest professors I've ever had who genuinely cares about you. We would always talk about random articles we found that were shocking to us, and he always gave me great suggestions of documentaries to watch on Netflix. At the end of the quarter, he emailed me my final grade along with an article from a well-known news source and said "I expect to see your name in here one day" (referring to the news source). Honestly the best compliment I have ever gotten. I would jump at the chance to take another class with this guy.

Prado is actually great! Really easy class even though it sounds scary. There are quizzes every class so you have to go, but are all online and multiple choice and pretty easy once you get the hang of them. During the first half of the quarter I'd get out as early as 2 hours before class was supposed to end and in the second half still like an hour early. He can ramble quite a bit but he does have some interesting stories, he just manages to tell the same ones every week. He gets super off track and can talk for a long time and make class go on longer than it needs to. Other than that, he doesn't grade your writing assignments until the end of the year. The final is a multiple choice (which is online) and your final article.

Prado is an awesome professor. Yes, he will ramble on for a bit about how he used to work at the Tribune (and he'll do that constantly) but when he is talking about course material, he knows what he's talking about. It balances out in the end; he's (generally) concise with course material and long-winded with anything that doesn't have to do with class. Book usage is minimal (at least in my experience), and most of the stuff that's covered in his quizzes are already covered in the lectures.

I took this as a freshman and am a junior now taking him again. I wanted to come back here to review him because I have had my share of unhelpful/bad professors *ahem journalism 333* but Tony is honestly so nice. I think professors like him that are laid back and easy are very important and a breath of fresh air here since sometimes that tends to not be the case. I loved his classes and he is so helpful and willing to work with you and such a sweetheart, definitely take a class with him when you can :)

Tony was a great teacher. He really is a sweetheart and enjoys chatting people up about your life and his life. The workload is fairly low and the content is fairly easy. If you ever have a problem with a deadline he will work with you really no matter the circumstance. The only thing is that he does go off on tangents quite a bit that oftentimes don't have too much to do with the class. You may be bored at times but really he's a great guy and a good professor. I'd recommend taking this class 100%!

Tony may be boring at times, but I don’t agree with other evaluations that his class is a waste of time. He taught me to be curious and to want more from a story than what I saw. He makes his tests and quizzes easy so you can focus on your creativity and your stories! Tony is one of the sweetest people I have ever met. He is accommodating, understanding, and considerate— like a teacher should be. You’re going to get in what you take out of this class. If you’re working for an easy A, you’ll get one. If you’re looking to work on your writing and reporting with the comfort of knowing that getting a good grade in this class is attainable, you’ll be a better writer for it. He won’t push you to pay attention or care, but he will cultivate and encourage the attention you give to the class. I mean it, in this class, you get what you give.

Tony Prado, the man, the myth, the legend. By far best journalism professor at Cal Poly. His license plate is literally "IWRITGUD." If that is not iconic, I don't know what is. If you have him at 8 am and he acknowledges the fact that waking up is hard, which as a student I really appreciated. I rolled in at 8:30 every class with my Starbucks and he never questioned it. I learned minimal about journalism, but a lot about real life. For example all the places in the area to get Mexican coke and his time as a journalist at THE TRIBUNE. You learn a little too much about his life, but that's just the kind of guy Tony is and he genuinely cares about your well being.10/10 recommend taking this amazing man. You will not regret it.

Professor Prado is literally the nicest and most understanding professor ever. He will talk all day though. In his defense I think it's because he just really likes teaching and wants to get to know his students. But seriously if you take him, no matter what class it is (I've taken him multiple times), be prepared to sit there for 2-3 hours and not actually learn anything. If you're fine with sitting around all class and attempting to not fall asleep, while still getting an easy A, then this class is for you. It seems like it would be a good idea to take his class, but it actually gets kind of frustrating when you want to learn something valuable to help you with your degree and he spends the whole class taking about random things. He's literally so kind that I can't even rip in to him right now, but just beware that if you take him there are three main things you need to know. It's an easy class and you WILL get an A. You will not learn anything. You WILL be extremely bored every class, all class.
