This class with Lee is great! He presents information and answers questions very clearly and his "quizzes" aren't very hard at all as long as you study a bit, he gives you the questions and answers to the quiz beforehand. Definitely recommend taking beef with him if you can.

Lee Rincker is by far my favorite professor I have had so far at Cal Poly. If you get to know him, he really connects with the students on a personal level, and he has a great sense of humor. This class is an easy A!! There aren't any midterms, just 4 biweekly quizzes, and a final. Lee gives the exact questions and answers that are going to be on the quizzes beforehand. Lee really follows by Cal Poly's "Learn By Doing" motto as his lab activities are super fun and interactive. We did activities such as learning how to sort cattle, grade cuts of meat, evaluate live cattle, vaccination protocols, and more. I would definitely recommend taking Lee's class for either Beef or Swine Production. I got a lot out of this class, and it's a great GPA booster!

Absolutely amazing professor. I came into this class kind of close minded (because why would an animal science major need to know about the production of beef?). He quickly changed that and I began to look forward to attending this class; I was actually disappointed when he cancelled it. I didn't come in with any knowledge on cattle, but a lot of the other students had a lot of experience, and he gave everyone an equal opportunity during lecture and lab. He was very helpful and willing to go over material again, but most of the time he didn't have to because he was very clear the first time around. He basically gives you the questions on the quizzes and the final just takes questions from the four quizzes. As long as you pay attention and study a little before the quizzes, you can get an A. I highly recommend this professor and look forward to taking another class with him.

This was his first quarter teaching at Cal Poly. He was a little disorganized at times, and he canceled class a little too much.... but overall I really enjoyed his class. His lectures are interesting and he is very knowledgeable. He is also nice and likes to joke around with the students. It also doesn't hurt that he is super cute ;] So for the class, he had 5 point weekly quizzes online, all very straightforward. No exams at all, but we did do 3 short papers that he called "case studies". If you put effort and critical thinking into it, you can get a good grade on it. We also did a video project instead of a final. Since this was his first quarter, he will probably make some adjustments for next quarter. I would take him again :]

I agree COMPLETELY with the other 5th year senior in the fall 2014 class. Although it was nice to have some mornings where I didn't have to go to class :)

Really good class and thought it could be a really beneficial tool. If you don't like unorganized classes well, then this is NOT the class for you. Take poultry instead!! I expected more professionalism from the teacher but that was nearly void. Like everyone above me said, he's good to look at and will flirt with other girls in the class nonstop. Nice guy but maybe needs to change his methods a bit! :)

This class is one of the easiest classes I've taken here at Cal Poly so far. Rincker is a decent professor, however he takes forever to answer emails and doesn't tell you his office hours unless you ask. There are no official midterms or a final for this class but three are 3-4 "quizzes" during lab. Rincker calls these quizzes, but they're long and more like tests. So definitely study. Almost half of the questions come straight off of the review questions he goes over in class so memorize those before and look at the powerpoints. The projects are also extremely easy and don't take much effort.

Lee is my all time favorite professor at Cal Poly. I personally did not think his class was disorganized or that he flirted with the girls. He present the information in PowerPoint presentations and he lays it out in such a simple manner that it's hard not to understand. There were no formal tests or a final when I took his class, but he does have 4 quizzes during lab. The questions were directly from the review questions in class (which he tells you). He was very approachable and he would answer any question during office hours. He makes lab fun, well, as fun as any lab can be. I definitely recommend taking his class, you won't regret it!

Lee is an amazing teacher, and considering he is the only one who teaches this class, you'll have the opportunity to take him. Oh, and whatever you do, don't take 225 instead of this class, because if you can't pass Lee's class, good luck in life. Lecture is super interesting and Lee isn't one of those teachers that just reads off of the powerpoint, I had him for an 8am and no one had any trouble staying awake. Lab is a blast and very hands on, you get to experience every aspect of the swine industry, including baby piglets!! He doesn't give any tests, only lab "quizzes" and he lets you know what information is going to be on them ahead of time. This class is the perfect production class to take because it is interesting and you WILL learn something! So in conclusion, take this class, you won't regret it!

Lee is a great instructor and you will learn a lot from him. Enjoy the class and make it fun and he responds well to that and makes the labs and lectures more fun too. If you just sit there and don't engage it won't be that great.

Lee does a great job of making the material interesting! The best part about his classes are he doesn't believe in tests! You are still expected to complete a biweekly quiz in lab, but don't fear! He will give you the quiz questions in lecture along with their answers. The material was super interesting and Professor Rincker is extremely knowledgeable about swine! The class is super fun and not too hard if you can put a few hours in to studying the quiz questions the night before. This class definitely embodies Cal Poly's "Learn by Doing" mantra, as much of what you learn in class can be applied in lab. Lee has a wonderful sense of humor and and good looks to go along with his excellent teaching style. If you can manage to take a class with him, I would go out of my way to do so!

Lee was so great. I immensely enjoyed going to his class as I had never been exposed to the swine industry before, and boy let me tell you he made it interesting. He does a great job of going through the slides and making sure everyone understands the concepts before moving on. Lab is really fun with him and you can tell he has a vast amount of knowledge!! Not to mention he's nice to look at. 10/10 recommend

Lee is such a good professor, and there's not midterms or finals, though there is a group final project which isn't too difficult. You have biweekly quizzes in lab, but he tells you the questions ahead of time. The material is super interesting and Lee's clearly passionate about it. Lab was a blast, and it totally embodies the "learn by doing" mantra as they were always hella hands on. If you're looking for a super chill professor and an easy class, I highly recommend this one and any class taught by him in the future.

Best professor I have had thus far. Explains everything very clearly and very open to questions. Quizzes are very fair if you come to class and study. He genuinely cares about the success of his students. Highly recommend.
