I was scared to take this class when I first saw the Polyratings for Morey but was pleasantly surprised! I loved the layout of her lectures and slides, they followed her lecture notes perfectly (recommend that you print the lecture notes before each class and fill them in throughout lecture). She made much of the concepts and math easy to understand and was willing to answer any questions we had. I genuinely enjoyed going to this class and the labs were also very valuable. You definitely need to put in the time for this class to study throughout the week, but as long as you stay on top of it, you should not have too much trouble. I recommend taking Morey if you have the chance for chem!

I'll keep this brief to reiterate some points that were already made. Very nice and helpful person which absolutely counts for something, but poor lecturer. Slides were text-heavy and concepts were blasted through. I will fully disclose that I should have put more time into this class, but I felt like it turned into a runaway train early on and got discouraged. Would not recommend this course, but if you do get it, work hard and BUY THE TEXTBOOK. She says it's not mandatory, but it really is. I'm not sure how I got a B with how fuzzy some of the topics seemed to me. I would imagine having the book to cover the many gaps you will have from her lectures makes life infinitely easier.

Wow...where to begin. What an awful quarter. Dr. S didn't know the material she was teaching half the time. She would say things and then correct them an hour later. Even during the final exam she changed one problem twice, two hours in. Also the things she does know she doesn't teach well at all. Like it's really bad. She'll just give out formulas and say memorize this, memorize that without explaining what any of it means. I'm a materials engineering major and I was planning to switch to chemistry because I think its really interesting if you look at it the right way, but I just cancelled my ICMA because if this is the kind of instructor the chemistry department employs I want to stay as far away as I can.

Do not take this professor if you have the chance. She explains concepts wrong during her lectures, which are a lightning pace. She has a nice personality and is helpful during office hours but honestly, take someone else if you can.

Dr. S is a good professor in terms of helping you out when you don't unferstand anything. The reason why you won't understand anything, though, is because she's terrible at explaining chemistry. If you can teach yourself chemistry, whether you look at her lecture slides she posts on polylearn or just googling the concepts, this class is a breeze. You will almost never have homework because she gives so much time in class to do everything. This is a great class if you don't need to depend on anyone else to get things done. You will work as a team in your table but they probably won't know what's going on either. Very very very easy B. Easy A if you actually put time in her class. She will exponentially become a better teacher, take Nisa. She's a good person and will work with you.

This was Dr. S's very first quarter at Cal Poly. A lot of people didn't like her, and to be honest at the beginning I was one of those people. However, as the quarter progressed her teaching style did see some improvement. The one area she excels in is giving help outside of class. A lot of people struggle with this class, and she always had extra office hours, practice, problems, and study guides. Personally, I hated her quizzes but her tests weren't too bad and she prepared us for the common final well. I wish I could have had her after she had more experience teaching, because I think she can only improve.

Dr. S is so adorable and nice! It was her first year teaching at Cal Poly but I thought she did alright. I do not like chem but she made it bearable with her dorky chem jokes. She was very helpful during office hours and straightforward.

It was really difficult understanding the lab material and write ups. She barely explained anything, and the learning assistants bashed on her too for being a bad teacher. The material jumped around a lot, so it was super hard connecting and comprehending the material.

Dr. S isn't the best chem professor to have but its only her first quarter here so she might improve over the years. She is bad at explaining things but you can tell she is knowledgable in chem. Her quizzes and tests were fair, no super curve ball questions. She has some dorky moments during class so it's uplifting.

Dr. S is fairly new, and while she is clearly very knowledgable about Chemistry, her teaching style is often confusing. If you understand basic chemistry you should be fine skimming by in this class, but if you have never taken a chem class before or remember nothing from high school, you may find yourself struggling with her vague teaching style.

I know she is a first time teacher, so I will try and give the benefit of the doubt here. That being said, I feel the course was unsatisfactory. Again, I will try and give the benefit of the doubt, as she is a new teacher. But when it is easier to learn the material from reading a (frankly terrible) textbook then listening to the lectures (reaching three hours in length with only a 5 minute break), this is something the department should know about. Things like this make learning hard, no matter who you are. There have been good things too. Dr. Satumtira is obviously very smart and wants to help us learn. This being said, I think it is absolutely ridiculous for the department to hire someone who just got their PhD, and has NO experience in teaching. She has the potential to be a great professor, but as of now, my learning (and GPA) have really suffered, and it should not have to be that way at a school of this caliber. I think this also has to do with the setup of the curriculum. A shit-show of a department makes things a lot harder on the professor, not to mention the student. There is no room for exploration by the professor. This may be good if they don't know what to teach, but it also makes it much harder to teach their way, and may make it harder for the professor to understand what is going on, as they have to learn the curriculum as well. Come on Cal Poly.

Dr. S is a nice person, she's decent in office hours, and tries to make lecture interesting. That being said, the tests and especially the final do not reflect the material taught. For the final, it is a common final, meaning it is standardized. Not all professors teach the same thing and I didn't agree with the final's format. I have yet to meet a person in my class who didn't fail the final. I managed to get a B- in the class but barely. If there are other professors available, take them unless you are prepared to work your ass off and fight for the grade you deserve. Good luck.

Dr. S shows an obvious passion for chemistry. Her lectures can be a bit sporadic at times, but overall she is an above average professor. The tests aren't too difficult and with a little hard work you should have no problem doing well in the class. I recommend taking Dr. S

If given the chance do not take her. She would explain concepts incorrectly which does not help when you are given a common final. Also, in lab she would "try" to help other groups but would just confuse them more. She wouldn't give you answers to questions in lab but try to explain them in a very roundabout way which did not help. Thank god for the LA/TA's in there that actually cared for us and helped.

I have met rocks more helpful than this woman. To justify that, my lab table wasn't particularly shy about asking for help when needed during labs, and instead of providing any guidance she'd respond to our question with a vague question that left us more confused than before. It was painful. If you can, just don't.

Really nice lady, but really not a good teacher. Goes way too fast during lectures, goes over some material wrong, not very good at explaining things, and her lectures could not be more boring. The labs can be very confusing if you don't come to class prepared. Before labs, make sure to watch the video tutorials she posts, print out the lab sheet, and actually read the lab sheet so you have an idea about what you are going to do. If you don't do these things, you will have no idea what is going on. Take someone else if you can.

Professor Morey (she got married) is amazing. All of her instructions and lectures are very clear, and if you have a question she can explain it to you in a different way. She gives a lot of partial credit on quizzes and tests and the only assignments you actually have to turn in are lab reports, but she gives you ample time to finish them. She posts worksheets every week on PolyLearn that are optional, but I would highly recommend doing all of them. She takes questions from these worksheets and puts them on quizzes and tests so they are very helpful to study, and they also allow you to keep up with the material. The tests are predictable; she doesn't pull questions out of nowhere. Also, I went to office hours every week with questions and she was so helpful. If you show her that you're really trying all quarter, she'll bump your grade at the end of the quarter. Take Morey if you can!!

The first half of this class was easy, well explained. Second half was fast pace and stressful. Provides the textbook online and doesn’t give too much homework, mostly textbook reading. She’s helpful to an extent but I would seek outside help. Very nice and easy to approach. The final was much harder then then the midterms, but she gives a google doc practice sheet with questions she adds on per chapter that’s very helpful.

I like the way she sets up her lectures with the powerpoints and guided notes but she moves through it really fast and doesn't do a very good job of explaining how to solve things or why certain concepts are the way they are. She teaches the material as if we already know it (but most of the people in the class haven't taken chem since like sophomore year of high school) so when you ask a question to her she is very condescending and refers you to her canvas page that doesn't have that much info either. Honestly the TA was way more helpful than she was when it came to understanding the material, and for all tests I literally had to go back and reteach myself the entire thing using khan academy. Also, her quizzes are way harder than the material she gives to us in class so everyone always does really poorly. If you get Morey I'd really recommend taking a study session or workshop or something because the class just moves way too fast to even understand anything (unless you're a chem major).

I ended up with a solid A in this class but I think this is mostly due to having previous experience with chemistry. It's true that she does lecture really fast and she usually answers a question with another question. Honestly, if you don't have any past experience with chemistry I highly recommend that you take the workshop as the workshop helped a lot specially with practice problems.

I've taken Dr.S for both chem 127 and chem 128. She's an extremely nice/understanding person, average teacher, and harsh grader. During office hours, she's extremely helpful and is awesome at individual teaching. When everybody says she's not very good at teaching, its true about her lectures (Her powerpoints are straight out of the book and she doesn't know how to solve most of the problems), but her teaching during office hours is a whole different world. In terms of her midterms/final, they're extremely hard and don't usually cover ALL the material (I feel like she only covers what she thinks is important but that only ends up to be like 50% of the total material). For labs, she expects you to have done the reading beforehand and know what to do when you walk in through the door. Most people don't do the reading beforehand so they get screwed over during labs and blame the teacher. If you're willing to do alot of learning yourself and have a teacher help you with the harder topics, Dr.S is perfect. If you need guidance every step of the way on labs and practice problems, I recommend another teacher.

Nisa is a below average professor. Her lectures are terrible! She flies through slides and often messes up practice problems she does on the board. I would not have made it through this class without reading the book and taking the workshop. Her first midterm was unfairly difficult (C) her second midterm was more fair (B) and her final had problems from each and some new ones so it was okay (C+). Office hours were decently helpful the one time I went. If you just need a quarter or two of chem like I did then Nisa is okay but if it's your major, I would highly suggest taking someone else, someone who will actually help you understand what and why chemistry concepts work the way they do.

Ok, Professor Morey's class has definitely been a rollercoaster this quarter. At first, I found this class very frustrating because the material wasn't always explained the best and I had to learn a lot of it outside of class. That being said, though, Professor Morey is very sweet and especially helpful during office hours- I recommend going. Once I got the hang of learning on my own and asking for help, my experience in the class was much more enjoyable and I've grown to love Morey as a professor. She knows her stuff even if she doesn't always explain it very clearly the first time, but if you ask for clarification, the material becomes so much easier to understand. In addition, she really does care about students and wants us to succeed. We also got a review day for our last class period, so yay! As for tips, I definitely recommend reading the chapters ahead of time and setting time aside to watch videos for further clarification, especially before midterms. The midterms are very straightforward, though, so I appreciate that! As for LAs, there was one that I loved and one that I just really, really didn't like and honestly didn't even understand why he was there. He was so obnoxious, never really helpful, and tried to answer questions by asking us what we thought the right answer was... because that's TOTALLY helpful and why we bothered raising our hand... I don't understand how he got the job and I didn't find his inappropriate jokes or stupid things like scootering during lecture very amusing. Let's just say he should be glad this is the only way we can say anything about him ;) Absolutely loved the other LA, though. Totally sweet and I loved her mini-lecture she gave to us- she tried her best to answer questions thoughtfully and asked Morey when she didn't know

Dr. S is a super sweet lady, but definitely lacking in teaching skills. Half of the time she clearly has no idea what she’s talking about, and has a hard time conveying concepts to the students. If you’re someone who needs a lot of guidance in lab or lecture concepts laid out clearly, I’d definitely try to snag a different professor.

Satumtira made my spring quarter hell God bless my book or I would have not done well Although North Texas gave her a PhD She was far below unsatisfactory Her lectures were only 50 minutes in length But staying awake took a lot of strength Lab was actually cool, I wouldn't lie But other than that, this class made me cry Ended up with an A by teaching myself 'till the end Overall, 10/10 would NOT recommend.

(1) Thank goodness for YouTube. Lectures, besides getting the topics for exams, are rather pointless, and I often leave incredibly more confused than when I arrived. Take the lecture example questions as a grain of salt because if the process is done wrong by Dr. S, and you do the exact same steps on the exam, you will be marked down. (2) When they advertise the free textbook, yes, finally. But beware. All the homework, reading sections, and lecture sections come from the not-free textbook, so you have to constantly be going to the library or a friend to figure out what in the world you should be looking at in the free textbook.

Dr. S is a very nice professor that is great at understanding student difficulties. However, her teaching methods can be a little on the sporadic side. Keep in mind that she is a relatively new professor, and with a little more experience, she has the potential to become a good chemistry professor.

Yikes. This is a classic example of "just because I failed the course, doesn't mean they're a horrible professor." First, Dr. S is not a bad lecturer, the problem is her tests. Her first quiz and her first midterm were not very well-written; and some questions were difficult to discern what was being asked of you. 129 is a pretty brutal course to begin with, so if you struggle in chemistry I would not recommend Dr. S, because she has a tendency to overcomplicate material and go too fast. I highly recommend taking workshop, if it's available, and using outside sources for any topics you don't understand (especially titration and buffers). Also, be warned, she DOES NOT CURVE. Or if she does, she curves your lab grades down, which honestly adds unnecessary stress to an already demanding course. If you are good in gen chem, you'll probably be fine, but if you aren't, you'll have to really put in work just to pass.

Her class is not too hard, it is quite easier than the other 129 professor's classes because she teaches more surface level material. However, be aware that she curves DOWN lab grades which can have a major impact on your overall grade. I liked her class but probably would not take another professor that curves down grades.

Nisa was super nice and willing to help you with any problems you had. I will admit that her lectures were hard to follow and dense, but she is dedicated to the success of the students as long as they put forward an honest effort. I had her for lecture and lab and neither were too difficult to get an A or B in. Her tests aren't bad at all if you just study the days before them. I would also add that when I was in lab the last week of school I wasn't feeling well during a quiz and I ended up passing out while walking to the door. Thank goodness Dr. Satumtira is an avid weightlifter and she was able to catch me before I fell to the ground! Also she excused me from the quiz and used my quiz average to replace it. So yeah, she is pretty cool.

She's approachable but SUCKS its like she reads her lectures from a script with the same level of english and grammar as fifty shades. Her "quizzes" (theres two of them) are worth TEN PERCENT of your overall grade which put together is the equivalent of your entire lab grade and her midterms are only worth five percent more each and she split them into two lectures so you spend a week taking a midterm, keep in mind theyre spaced so youre taking one every other week so you will spend the whole quarter shitting bricks studying. If you enjoy studying 24/7 and teaching yourself this class is for you, i got more out of a 10 minute khan academy video than two weeks of lecture. She also doesnt tell you when your midterms and quizzes are until theyre a week away. Teaching is definitely not her top priority but she expects her class to be yours.

Dr. Morey's lectures are pretty straight forward and nicely organized for the most part. She does lecture very fast so I printed lecture slides so that I wouldn't fall behind writing down notes that were already on the lecture slides. Also her tests are pretty fair although on the exams and quizzes she does throw some curveballs or writes the question in forms that you probably have never seen. I found her office hours to not be as helpful because she actually had lots of attitude like she did not want to be there, so that made me turned off from asking all my questions. I had her for both lecture and lab and I thought the class was tolerable as long as you do lots of practice problems.

Dr. Morey (she got married so she now prefers to be called Dr. Morey), although a very nice person, is not a great professor. She lacks the proper skills to convey concepts concisely. She answers most student's questions by talking in circles, leaving us worse off than before. I had Dr. Morey for Lecture and Lab. The week before Thanksgiving she decided it would be okay to have the lecture midterm, lab quiz and lab final due all on the same day. Hopefully, she does not pull stuff like this in her other classes. Overall, my worst chemistry professor so far at Cal Poly. I should have done my research on 128 professors before selecting Dr. Morey.

I LOVED her. She presents material SUPER well, and everything in the class is fair however I am also in the workshop and that helps tremendously. She is so sweet and understanding and I've had the worst quarter and she moved so many deadlines for me. The class definitely requires practice and outside work, but it is chemistry so that is obvious. Material is just so clear to understand it would def be attainable to get an A if you try. HIGHLY RECOMMEND TAKING HER
