This class is very good if you haven't taken chemistry before, or if you took it but don't remember much of it. Lowell gave weekly homework assignments and quizzes based on the assigned problems each week. The quizzes weren't bad if you studied the lecture notes, and you could drop your lowest quiz. Lowell did a lot of examples so the concepts were clear and easily understandable. Lowell really seemed to care about the success of her students and she was excited about the subject. She is a very nice person and a great teacher.

Her class is set up so that each week you take a quiz and turn in homework problems. The last thirty minutes in the classes in which you don't have quizes are spent going over the quiz from the class before. She also spends a lot of time answering peoples questions in class. There were a few people in the class who had a lot of questions and made her go over things that she had already taught. She does a good job explaining things in a simplified way, but could have taught more material if less class time was wasted on answering questions and taking quizes.

HOW COULD YOU NOT LOVE THIS PROFESSOR? Ok, the material was not the hardest in the world, but she was a super good teacher. She always explained everything thoroughly and clearly, didn't assign too much work, and had great tests. Everything youve read about her is true :-) . On a scale of 1 to 10, I think shes super great!

I am currently taking Professor Lowell class and she is the greatest teacher. She is so fair, and really explains the material in a structured way. She is great, she knows her stuff but can relate to everyone, I will definetley take the chem 111 class with her next quarter. I would suggest her to anyone entering Chemistry, especially if your not that good at it.

Great professor!!! I just really sucked at chemistry and i have always since high school. The good thing about this class that u learn alot for the next level of chemistry. This proffesor curved her tests by a letter grade or two, if it wasnt for that i think that i could of done bad in the class. Anyways just take this professo, she is really great at what she does and hopefully she will teah another chem course cause she would teach everything that u wont b=need to open the book in order to understand what she really meant. Just take her and ull do fine.

I took Chem 106 this quarter because I didn't take high school chemistry, which I needed before I took 124. Lowell has a very enthusiastic teaching style that makes the material seem so easy. She was VERY approachable and easy to talk to. She collected homework on a weekly basis but allowed students to turn in homework a day late. The quizzes were very relevant and she allowed the students to help her decide whether to have 9 quizzes and a 50 point final or 8 quizzes and a 100 point final. thumbs up!

Lowell's awesome! She doesn't have one mean bone in her body. Unlike many teachers, she treats her students like they're her kids. I had her for a 3 hour lab once a week, but she let us all out much earlier every time. The labs were fun and simple and we finished our lab reports in 15 minutes. Take Lowell for any class she offers. She will clarify anything you are having trouble with and understands that her students are here to learn AND have fun. She knows what's up.

She was an excellent lab instructor. She was so enthusiastic about chem that I actually enjoyed some of what we learned. She clearly explains what is going to happen in the lab beforehand, and is always a good resources to ask questions. I stayed late a few times to get all my questions answered. I would definently recommend her. She had to leave a few weeks early for an emergency, but the time that she was our lab professor was really fun!

Carol is a pretty awesome lecturer. She is very helpful in labs and explains the procedures very clearly. She is a nice lady and allows you to turn in 1 lab late without losing any points. There are a total of 9 labs i believe and 2 quizzes. Quizzes are from the previous lab and anything in them is fair game. Just do good in the labs and alright on the quizzes and you'll pass.

Lowell is very boring and dry with her pre-lab, but she grades pretty easily on the lab reports and lets you mostly do your own thing in class and is available for help. Quizzes are pretty challenging if you don't read the instructions for the labs, but easy if you review for 10-15 minutes before the class.

Chemistry is a difficult subject for me to begin with, but Professor Lowell taught it with such enthusiasm and clarity that everything made sense. She used objectives and ideas from the text book, combined it with visuals and examples in lecture that made everything easy. She used many examples, easy at first, but gradually got more difficult, with every theme. She was very approachable whenever I had a problem, and even worked closely with the S.I. Discussion Group leader, making sure that we were focusing on the right ideas in S.I. Her teaching style is perfect.

Lowell is awesome!!! Her enthusiasm for chem made the class actually enjoyable (wierd, cuz I never liked chem until I had her). She also seems to really understand her students and trys to reach them on a more personal level. I couldn't believe it how many people's names she actually remembered, she's amazing! Not to mention she has the most contagious LAUGH I have ever heard!

Carol Lowell is one of the best teachers I have had at Poly! She is so enthusiastic about chem...it's contagious! She also knows her stuff. But she is not one of those profs who are in it to show off how much they know and then see how tricky they can be on the tests. No, Carol is in it for the students. She makes absolute sure that everyone understands a topic before she moves on. Sure, the class is pretty packed with information, but Carol makes it fun and easy. She applies real life applications to the material that makes you understand the concepts...like, when you take a raft up into the mountains, it expands because there is less pressure pushing in on it. As for the work, she did assign some pretty monstrous homeworks...but the problems are easy for the most part and the answers are in the back of the book. There were three midterms, most of which were multiple choice with a couple of short calculations at the end, and a final...she gave extra credit "pop" quizzes to get people to come to class on fridays...plus there was extra credit on the test...there was so much extra credit I dont know how anyone could have failed the class. I'm pretty sure I had over 100% in the class by the end...overall, just go to the lectures and pay atention to the examples she gives in class and what she emphasizes in lecture because this is what is going to be on the tests. Carol is an awesome teacher....take her if at all possible!

Professor Lowell is awsome. She goes over the lab before you jump in and she's always there if you need help. You have a pre-lab due every week, but if you have any questions in between classes you can email her and she gets back you like within' 24 hours. She's really on top of things and she has a great sense of humor. She's great and she makes things as easy as possible for you.

She is a cool professor and probably better than most of the chem professors here. We had three midterms and the final. We could drop one midterm. The grade was constituted of homework, midterms, lab, quizzes, and final. She gives a lot of homework problems, but if you understand the material you can just copy the answers from the back of the book, and she grades on how much is there, not if you got the right answers. She is always willing to answer students' questions, whether it be through email, office hours, or in class. She spelled out exactly what you were expected to memorize for each test and gave you everything else on cheat sheets. Even though she is pretty easy, you do need to study to do well, which I learned after I realized I could not get an A in the class.

Carol Lowell knows a lot about the subject she was teaching (Chem 111). Although my grade doesn't reflect it, she could really explain the information. She is also more than willing to help students with the homework and sample test questions. I recommend her as a teacher for chemistry.

This was the easiest science class I have ever taken. She presented the material very clearly, and her tests were super fair (and easy). There was quite a bit of homework, but if you work your way through it (instead of just copying the answers) it really helps you understand the material, making the tests so much easier to study for. I would DEFINITELY recommend Lowell for this class..

Prof. Lowell is the greatest teacher I have ever encountered. I wouldnt say that she is the easiest like the other person said, I think it just seems easy because she presents the information so clearly that you cant help but get the message. There are lots of quizzes and homeworks, all of which really help to get ahead in the class. I would recommend her for any class.

Professor Lowell was a great teacher! She was really good at presenting the material, and she supplied great examples that made the homework a lot easier to follow. She also posted her past exams on blackboard with the answers, so if you studied that you can get a really good grade on the exams, as the answers are only slightly changed. I would highly recommend getting her as a lecture professor!

Just be very careful on lab reports, she grades hard. But overall great lab teacher, definitely take her if you can, she knows what she is doing!

Probably the best teacher I've had at Poly. She takes you step by step by step through all the material to make sure you understand it. As for the setup of the class: She'll give pop quizes every once in a while. Not hard but not easy either. There are 3 tests (one of which you can drop) and they are extremely fair. The final is cumulative so it's a little harder, but still representative of the material she's taught. If you get an A on the final, you get an A in the class- pretty sweet! She gives a good amount of homework every week. It's not hard, but it can be time consuming. As long as you don't leave it to the night before it's very manageable. It's due every Monday, but she gives you until Tuesday every week. After that it's a zero, which is perfectly reasonable. She's is also a very understanding teacher. I got violently sick on the day of a midterm, and she was great about helping me reschedule a time to take the test. I also had 3 finals on one day and she gladly moved the final to monday. She even walked me and another girl to the office where we were supposed to take the test. If you have a choice, take Lowell. You won't regret it.

Prof. Lowell is one of the most outstanding professors I have ever had. I have never seen a professor be completely patient, humorous, clear, and understanding all at once. She portrays all of these characteristics. I thought Chem would kill me, it actually is one of my favorite classes this quarter. She works with any student that wants to work with her. She presents material clearly and gives several example problems. She prepares the students sufficiently for the exams. There are homeoworks and pop quizzes here and there...but I love that because ultimately your grade doesn't solely depend on your exam scores. And when it comes down to it, she will help you to get a better grade in the class overall.

Carol was a pretty cool teacher. She is really laid back and approachable. She can present the material in a confusing way, but if you do not understand she is totally open to questions. I also had her for lab and she was very helpful and previewed the experiment before we began. I recommend taking Carol's class for Chem 111.

I really loved Lowell! She made things easy to understand, I suddenly understood things that I never had in high school. You take three tests, she'll drop your lowest score. If you do better on your final than on all the other tests, she will give you that grade as your final grade. Shes really entertaining to listen to as well! A!!!!

Lowell team taught this course; she taught the second 5 weeks. She expects you to work. She gives weekly homework assignemnts, indepth weekly quizes, and challenging tests. She only tests on mateirial she has either covered in class or drawn your attention to in the book. You can expect quiz and test questions to range from the easiest material covered, all the way to the most difficult. Most everyone who showed up to class did just fine on the quizes and tests. Take good notes and phrase answers based on those notes and you'll get an "A". I never read the book unless it was something of great interest to me personally.
