Loaiza, Gerard  

Mr. Loaiza (Gerard) co-taught this class with Gordy Wardell after Mr. Jeffreys left Cal Poly. While I never had Jeffreys (although he was a guest lecture for a fruit science class and he sounded very knowledgeable), I have to say that Gordy and Gerard did an excellent job and I would highly recommend taking this class if you plan on working with bees, fruit, nuts, or if you are aware of the food that you eat. This class has inspired me to start my own backyard beekeeping hive! These two were fun, lively, knowledgeable, and very friendly. Gerard took the time to get to know every student personally, even though our class was probably triple or quadruple the normal size. Gordy and Gerard both work for Paramount and have excellent industry contacts and real experience that is a plus too- a few students got internships with Paramount from this class. I highly recommend this class to anyone and everyone!

Take this class even if you aren't a fruit science major! I'm currently in Engineering and took the class because it sounded interesting and so far it has been my favorite class here at cal poly. Loaiza is a fantastic teacher and clearly passionate about beekeeping. The lab is a blast! The lectures are interesting and there isn't really any homework. The tests he goes over the day before everything you should know and are an easy A if you spend 30 mins studying beforehand.
