I loved this class! The first half of the quarter was very similar to AP Gov but the second half focused on business entities. I'm not going to lie though because there was quite a bit of reading, as in most business courses I've found. However, the workload is definitely manageable and her lectures are super helpful! She does offer extra credit here and there for participation in midterm/final reviews. She seems very personable and I would definitely recommend Janssen.

The class is made up of 4 midterms (one of them being the final with a couple things from previous midterms thrown into it) and an easy group project that is just answering questions. I only got a C because I didn't put enough time into the second midterm and got an F on it. She has some extra credit opportunities when she reviews for the midterms. The midterms aren't that bad if you go over the notes from class and read the cases (the ones in the reading and the assigned cases). She's very helpful with answering questions in class and during office hours. Overall I enjoyed the class and would recommend her to anyone who has to take Bus 207.

I had her for BUS 207, which can be a dry subject. She did very well in making the topics clear, and presented the information with a powerpoint and some fun video clips rather than just talking at a class for 2 hours. Her midterms and final are straightforward and very fair. She does a good job at making complex information simple enough and pretty interesting! Recommend.

BUS 207 with Professor Janssen is a great class to take. It's a dry subject in general, but she does her best to make it interesting by using games and video clips. She knows the information very well. It is very do-able to get a B in the class. However, getting an A will require a lot of reading that most people don't have time for.

She is a great professor and very straight forward! Read the chapter before class take good notes on her lectures and make flash cards for bolded terms in the book (and other important ideas) and you will be set. Take her study advice it really helps and study extra hard for the second midterm that was a huge grade drop for a lot of people! She makes the class very interesting and she is very nice at her office hours. Volunteer for the extra credit; it's scary because you have to go in front of the class, but definitely worth the points since she does not raise any grades!

Professor Janssen is a very knowledgeable and straight-forward professor. She does a good job making a dry subject interesting with her hypothetical scenarios and various video clips. Additionally, she can be strict at times (grading policy, etc.) but she is also very helpful during office hours. Ultimately your grade in this class will come down to how hard you are willing to work. Not many people are naturally gifted at law, but if you are willing to put in the time to read the chapters thoroughly, take good notes, and ask any questions you may have at office hours, an A is definitely attainable. My two pieces of advice would be to: 1) make sure to read and understand all the examples and case studies in the chapters and 2) suck it up and volunteer for the extra credit opportunities. No one wants to make a fool of them self in front of the class, but the questions are easy and you'll be fine.

Carol Janssen knows her stuff. She's extremely organized and will cover an incredible amont of material in each class period. I would not recomend skipping class. Janssen is very fair: I got a B and felt that it was very deserving. I'm glad I took the course, I learned a lot and really tested my study skills.

Professor Janssen is awesome. She came from Cuesta and was by far the bets professor i had 1st quarter. Her tests aren't easy but if you go to class and take good notes a B should be extremely easy and an A is definitely achievable.

Professor Janssen tells her students at the beginning of the quarter what she expects. She's also very strict on grades, even if you're at a 89.99%, tough luck. I received a C+, I was only 0.15% from a B- (evidence of how strict her grading policy is). All midterms are worth the same, not cumulative either. Janssen definitely helped me learn a lot about Business Law. My grade was deserving; if I put in a little more effort, I probably would have done better.

Professor Janssen was the best teacher I had freshman year fall quarter. Her class isn't outrageously exciting or life changing, but she is a good teacher and a nice lady. Her grading method is fair and it's totally possible to get an A in her class. She makes an effort to know and help her students which I really appreciated. Business Law isn't too interesting as a subject in my opinion, but Janssen does a pretty good job of making the class bearable. I would recommend her as a professor in this course.

I absolutely love Carol! She was an awesome teacher even though I only got a C. I learned a lot from her class and highly recommend her. Her lectures are very informative and her tests are all straightforward and she doesn't try and trick you at all. She offers some extra credit throughout the year which helps a bit. Overall a great teacher.

Carol Janssen is the epitome of a college professor. Registering for this class I was super bummed because I did not get Carr, which everyone who has taken him says he is the best, but honestly, I am so surprised about how much I love Janssen and this class. Her class is tough and if you don't go to her lectures, the best you could get is probably a B, unless you're a really good test taker and you read the book. Her tests are not cumulative, which is such a relief so study hard and get an A. I never really studied a lot for this class because participation and engagement in her lectures will get you far. She also gives so many extra credit opportunities through the activities so definitely participate in those. If a student would ask her a question, Carol could clarify and make you understand the subject matter with the answer. She genuinely wants her students to do the best, but she also knows that it is on the student to put in work. She's a no bullshit type of teacher and she's actually a great person to talk to outside of the Business Law realm and I respect her on every level. It's crazy that she worked for a long time at Cuesta before being offered a job here at Cal Poly because she has been one of the best teachers I've had so far. I'm definitely going to miss this class because although topics may be dry, if you actually try to understand and learn the material, you get a lot out of this class and getting an A is definitely possible.

I really liked Carol. I was nervous for this class because so many people tend to do poorly and say its really hard, but I was pleasantly surprised to immediately grasp the material. I think most of that was due to the clear way she presented the concepts, and made this boring subject less boring. She was very organized and had a set plan for each class, which was helpful. She didn't give study guides, but if you take notes every day then you've pretty much written up your own. She gives a lot of little opportunities for extra points, like 10pt quizzes on PolyLearn that you can retake until you get 100%. I highly recommend taking Carol for BUS LAW, especially if you are like me and had never head anything business law related in your life.

I definitely recommend Janssen. She follows the book pretty closely and her Prezis are helpful as well. Your grade on the exams pretty much make up your overall grade, not many other assignments to cushion your grade. There are 3 midterms and the final is worth the same as the midterms and is not cumulative. Her lectures are pretty dry but I found the material interesting. She is super knowledgeable and does a great job explaining the material. Overall, pretty easy to get a B in the class, and an A is definitely doable.

I loved Professor Janssen! She presents the material in a very interesting and understandable way. Some classes can get tiring if she does two hours of straight lecture, but she does make an effort to play games, play clips/a movie, and have group work so not every class is full of lecture. She also includes lots of extra credit, which really helped my grade! Overall a very interesting and fun class!

This class you have 4 midterms 75 pts each (the last one you take during your finals week, you do not have a cumulative final) and 1 25 pt project. Therefore, one bad midterm grade can really screw you but as long as you study you will be able to pull off B's on all of them. The material itself is not too difficult however the tests are very application based which can be a little tricky at times. For me, the 3rd midterm was the most difficult and really brought down my grade so I would make sure to put in extra work for that midterm. The material is very bland and boring but Janssen is a good professor and will do everything in her power to help you understand the material. If you have any questions or are unclear about anything and ask her (inside or outside of class) she will give you as many examples/explanations as she can until you understand. Definitely bring a laptop to take notes on unless you want to have to look back at the prezi slides after class to write down what you missed and have a god awful hand cramp.

Hated the fact that this class had like a million people in it but Janssen was great. She did seem to lean a little left in the politics but what teacher doesn't lol. Conservatives beware. But anyways, went in, studied hard, got an A, and got out. That's this class. Period. Also, I feel like a could just kiss her because the final wasn't cumulative :) Contract assignment was a terrible idea however. Please, please Janssen if you are reading this GET RID OF THAT CONTRACT ASSIGNMENT. It's too easy for three of the members to procrastinate and then you have to do the ENTIRE THING ON YOUR OWN. She yelled at people two or three times which was hilarious honesty. Rude ass college kids just being little babies. If you thought this class was hard idk how you got into Cal Poly. Thanks Jan!

Business law is not the most entertaining subject for most students, however this class was really interesting to me. I learned a lot about the laws that run businesses and the ones they abide by, all relevant skills that should encourage all to do well. Read the textbook, go to class and study for a few hours before the midterms. The final isn't cumulative, which is awesome! Most of your points come from tests, so make sure to come prepared to those.

If I could give Prof. Janssen an A+++ on polyratings, I would. She is a phenomenal speaker, very organized, and cares about her subject. She understands that very few of the students taking her class are going to become lawyers, so she simplifies topics and has helpful examples. If you want an A: sit up front, pull up her press slides ahead of class, and ask questions when you're confused as hell (because you will at some point not understand some of the legal jargon). If you want a B: have her slides ahead of time, take good notes, and refrain from texting.

Janssen is dope. She does a great job of making a dry subject interesting. She's very approachable in office hours and definitely cares about her students. I would definitely recommend participating in class to get a better understanding - I took this class in the Silo and she knew my name by like Week 5. Class is extremely straightforward and structured, which I loved. There are 4 non-cumulative midterms and a small project. Take good notes during lecture and skim over the textbook before the midterms and you'll be alright. Highly recommend!

Janssen's class is about as straight forward as they get. You know for the get go exactly what she expects and what you need to do to do well. Do the reading, know the cases, and pay attention and class, and you are pretty much assured an A. Try to make friends early too, her contract law project is way better when you pick a group of people you do not mind actually doing it with. It is a good class, and it won't take a ton of effort to do well.

I absolutely loved Janssen!! She has so much experience from being a lawyer and is great at using examples to make concepts absolutely clear! Although my grade was a C+, I definitely think it's an easy class to get at least a B- in. This class revolves around 4 tests (each 75 points) and a project(about 25), with a few extra credit points here and there. Bummer is, she won't round up your grade no matter what. :( I got a C+ in the class, but was 1.5% away from a B, I deserved a C+ because I was lazy and bombed one of the tests. Study hard for the 2nd midterm!!! Another nice thing is, that Carol doesn't make tests cumulative! Every test is straight forward and if you take good notes, pay attention and read the textbook, you are set. If you want to impress her, talk about the San Jose Sharks Hockey team she loves them! 10/10 recommend!!!

Bus Law is a hard class and Professor Janssen's tests are hard, but she presents the material in a very organized fashion and if you pay attention and take thorough notes in class, you will do fine in this class. She also uses many recent examples and hypotheticals to make the complicated concepts more easily understandable, and if students have questions or confusion, she will take the time to answer the questions or clear up the confusion. Your grade in her class consists of 3 midterms and a final that are all 75 questions and not cumulative (there are 4 sections of the material and a test on each section) and a 25 point "project" where you will be answering questions in a group pertaining to the contract you select. She occasionally offers extra credit, which is super nice. She also does exam review sessions before all of the exams, which are super helpful because she asks test like questions and clarifies any further areas of confusion. She is also just a very sweet and understanding person (she postponed one of our midterms because the classroom was too hot) and all of the Bus Las teachers will be hard so I would definitely recommend taking Janssen!

Janssen is a clear and effective instructor. She is awesome and will provide you with quality content and lectures. In order to be successful in this class I recommend: 1. ALWAYS reading chapters before the lecture and creating quizlets while reading them. (set up a schedule and stick to it, try to read before the lecture else the material is redundant) 2. Go to her office hours and say hello, she will appreciate the time you took. 3. study the quizlets that you created thoroughly before midterms 4. Create a document for each section and complete the IRAQ method for each case study Janssen will give you the tools, but your success is determined by the time you put in.

Honestly not sure where I went wrong with this class. I attended all her classes, made quizlets, did the study questions and the readings but still managed to bomb the tests. I think generally she tried to make the class interesting and maybe business isn't something for me. The project was easy, you only need to work on it in class if you have a good group. The tests consist of applying what you learned to scenarios and not definitions. In my opinion, if you aren't a business major, you will struggle with the concepts in this class.

Professor Janssen is SUPER knowledgeable and knows her stuff about business law. This course is still a challenge and requires a lot of time and commitment to the readings. I would definitely recommend going to every single lecture, taking detailed notes, and paying full attention to her and the examples she gives. This class is just four midterms and a group project which is done mostly in class. The midterms are all 75 questions and are all scenario based questions. Definitely study beyond just the terminology and know how to apply every word into law. As for the cases, know them as they will always appear up on the tests. Also, if she offers Sunday office hours prior to a test I would definitely recommend going to them. Take Janssen and you will learn the material!

Janssen gives you all the info you need to succeed on the 3 tests and one in class group project. None of the tests are cumulative with made my finals load a tad bit easier. Professor Janssen was great! She made the material applicable to us outside of the classroom, and she worked to relate it back to the interests of students and their specific concentrations. Janssen is a great professor (and also a lawyer) who presents information clearly. There are 3 midterms and a final (not cumulative) at the end, which is nice because each midterm doesn't have tons of info. to memorize for it. She does a lot of hypotheticals which helps you learn the material and its application. There are a couple small extra credit opportunities and 1 group project. She teaches law in a broader perspective and doesn't go into a lot of detail, which can be good/bad depending on what you're looking for.

Janssen is a good choice. People always rag on her because Carr is supposed to be so much better or whatever. That's false. Janssen is just as good. The class had four tests all worth 75 points (including the final), and nothing was cumulative. Unlike with Carr, you don't get to use a note card, but the tests are very doable, and honestly I think I put about 30 minutes of studying into each of them and still got an A (even when I'd skip class for weeks). In addition to the tests, there's a group project worth 25 points that should've been easy, but I got a bad group and ended up with a C- on it (most groups got A's and B's). Occasionally she'd give us a worksheet in class (this happened maybe five times) and those were worth one point each. They're basically made worthless though because she gives a lot of opportunities for extra credit (I got 11 points for little stuff here and there that took about five minutes. So I guess the moral of this is just take her. You learn the exact same stuff that you do in Carr's class anyway, so why be a pansy and say you "have the harder professor." It's the same class genius.

I had a great time in this class! Although the class name and it's description may seem boring to some, or intimidating, Professor Janssen made the class incredibly clear and easy to understand conceptually. She engages with the class regularly; it's never really her talking at you for 2 hours, making you want to crawl up into a ball and die. She presents otherwise hard to understand concepts for non-lawyers in a concise, straight forward way. The lectures usually consisted of Professor Janssen presenting Prezi slides covering 1 or 2 chapters (all the slides are online), and having an open discussion about the information as she's presenting, making sure to answer everyone's questions as best as possible. 3 midterms and 1 non-cumulative final, each 75 multiple choice questions. The exams are straight forward, she doesn't try to trick you ever, but not easy. The concepts are not a walk in the park to fully grasp and understand, but if you go to all the lectures/read the chapters in the book yourself/study you will be fine and get at least a B. If you only show up to class you could probably pull off a C, but lets shoot for higher people. There is also a Contract Law group project, but it's all in class and fairly simple. Overall, it was a very useful class that provided us all with extremely beneficial knowledge in law and was actually enjoyable; I never dreaded going to class which I definitely do for others. If you can, take BUS 207 with Janssen! Talk to her about hockey too

Janssen was a great professor. I took her class in my first quarter at Cal Poly and it was a great way to ease into college coursework. There was attendance/participation grade, no homework besides a few short online paragraph submissions, just one group project finished almost entirely in class, a few extra credit opportunities, and 4 non-cumulative midterms (one of which counts as the final). All you really need to do is go to class, pay attention, take some notes, and review for maybe an hour or two before the midterm. Midterms are all multiple choice and she offers a study guide which is a good representation of what questions will be on the exam. Lectures can be kind of boring, but if you fall asleep, just read the chapters that correlate and review the powerpoint slides she posts. I didn't read the text book at all except the handful of case studies specified and did alright. I bombed one midterm from not paying attention, studying, etc. bu tif not for that, I would likely have gotten an A.

Carol is a great teacher. However, there are times when her lectures get really dry. But the great thing about this class is she shows a LOT of videos and documentaries. There's no textbook but there's still some readings from online textbooks and other various articles. The class is made up of 2 midterms, a final, 1 group presentation, 2 papers (but they're kind of the same thing), and Socratic-seminar-type discussions. The grading is harsh and the tests are hard and I can only justify it by saying that it's a 400-level class and it definitely feels like it. I would recommend her! Janssen was a pretty good professor and the class was mostly centered around current events, which made a pretty boring class a little more interesting. You don't really have to do the readings and she just posts them all on PolyLearn if you need to reference them later. She's big on participation in class and she learns all her students' names really fast. The presentation, quizzes, and the first paper are easy but she grades the final paper ridiculously hard. All in all not a bad class
