Dr. Larsen is an excellent professor for strength of materials. He teaches with the aid of his computer program/tutorial. The ability to take the quizzes at home at your own pace is very nice opition for myself. It gave me a chance to work through the problems, without a teacher looking over my shoulder and counting the minutes until he can collect the quiz. Also his tests are very fair, they come directly from the quiz questions. He also grades and returns materials in a timely manner.

Dr. Larsen would make love to his computer program/tutorial if he could. He relys too heavily on the the program, which he thinks is some revolutionary thing. i rather stick a fork in my eye than sit and read his tutorial. the only good thing about his class is that he is predictable. the homeworks dont count for much and he glances at them while you take the midterm or final. the test are made up of the the quiz questions and the quizes are take home and you can take as many times as you want. so there you have it.

Larsen uses a "virtual text" (computer software) instead of a book. He claims it's cheaper than a book, but you have to buy codes ($30), and software ($40), it's full of bugs, and you can't sell it back. YOU WILL GET THE UNLOCKING CODES FOR FREE if you email your installation codes to: indentureds@hotmail.com Don't be a dweeb and mention this to Prof. Larsen! Quizzes are done at home on the computer, and 3 or 4 are due at each midterm. The quiz printout only shows your scores, not the problems, so you can easily create fake 100% quizzes in Wordperfect. Quizzes account for 1/4 of the grade. Expect to use lots of printer paper for homework, this is collected at the midterms also, but he grades it based on how thick the stack is, so use thick printer paper. The test problems come from the HW and quizzes, but are easy. I passed both without doing the quizzes or HW, from my notes alone. Each test is about 25% of the grade. (2 midterms and a final.) Also, someone PLEASE report this guy to the board of health. He lives and chain smokes in his office. Don't go in there without a gas mask.

be careful when doing work for this guy - he is shady. he had some of my friends complete there senior projects as VB applications and then he packaged them up and sold them - To the students! He is very unethical and after five years acts like he has never seen you before - every time you go to his office hours.

Larsen is a hard teacher who never seems to be prepared for lecture. His tests do not resemble any of the material presented in homework or class. He is knowledgeable in his subject however out of touch with the class. People did very well or very bad in his class, despite the ampunt of time spent studying. I would strongly recommend not taking him for anything other than a lab!
