A super easy teacher. She doesn't teach the subject matter very clearly but if you took chemistry in high school you'll be fine. There's a quiz every week but she drops your two lowest grades. There's no homework and the final is basically a shorter version of the 500 question study guide. She can be hard to understand at times because of her accent and her lectures can be very dry but overall an easy class.

I had Parisa for CHEM 110, so a bit easier the CHEM 127 reviews below. First day I went in and not going to lie, I was extremely intimidated. She is very serious about her class rules and doesn't put up with anything. But, soon she warmed up and the whole class warmed up and the class was much more relaxed. I greatly enjoyed this class and Parisa is very helpful. Basically in CHEM 110, work hard to study for the quizzes each week and thoroughly complete the labs and you'll get a good grade. The final was a compilation of the huge Finals study guide she sends out. Lectures can be a bit confusing at times because it is pretty fast paced. If you take the initiative to get the help you need, you'll do well.

I can't tell if Parisa is extremely stupid or not. She doesn't really explain the material and if you ask a question she will bitch at you in front of the class. I did also have her when she was pregnant so I guess she was moody and not herself. Her husband would sub our class like once a week and he was such a good teacher, I believe his name is Dr. Burns or something. I wouldn't recommend Parisa unless you have to take her. Also she doesn't make any of the quizzes, tests, homework, or labs she just uses her husband's.

SO manipulative, sarcastic, intimidating, rude, annoying, pregnant, total diva, inconsiderate, hard to understand, doesn't present material clearly, tells you that you are stupid, blames everything on the student, no curve, newly fired from UCLA, straight off the persian boat, shares an office with her husband, so unclear, expects you to be the the next albert einstein, thinks you only have her class, unprofessional, etc.

Where to start, how about with the fact that she thinks this is your only class, and you should be spending all your time focused on her class, or "sleeping less" like she told us in one of her recent lectures to the class about how we "aren't studying enough." She is very smart but just having your doctorate does not mean you know anything about teaching. She skips over soo much material that it makes it impossible to keep up with her in lecture. i took chemistry my sophomore year of high school and had an A no problem, but it has not helped at all with this class. She flies through the lecture and is very intimidating when asked questions so everyone is too afraid to ask her anything. During labs, she sits behind her desk on her phone and plays games. The poor LA's in our class do all the grading and do all they can to help us with the labs and homework and such. I aced the first midterm but it has gone downhill since then. It is impossible to keep up with all of the work, between lecture, 1-2 labs per week, homeworks every week, quizzes every week, the 50 suggested problems she posts a few times per week, and reading the textbook. The majority of our class has gotten D's and F's on the last few quizzes and are all very worried because she insists that she is not going to curve any part of the class at all. I have to take this class for my major, and am very very worried because i KNOW i am not prepared for chem 128. Oh, and going into office hours is really awkward because her and Dr. Byrne, her husband, share an office. If she is doing something else, he will offer to help you, but he is not anymore helpful than she. My classmates and I have left her office almost in tears because she tears you apart when you go into her office, rather than helping you in any way. I would NOT recommend her class to anyone..

I would not recommend taking this teacher if you can get someone even remontely better. Mahjoor is incredibly rude to her students and shames them for asking questions in her class. What will be on the quizzes tends to be a mystery, and some of the material that we are quizzed on has not even been covered in class yet. The book can be quite confusing at times and even when I show her what particularly in the book has me confused she still shames me for asking. I can see why she was fired from UCLA.I wish I could say nicer things about her class, but after feeling humiliated for asking her simple questions I am quite bitter towards her. She prefers telling us that we should study more for her class and sleep less if we need to, just to pass her class. As if we aren't already sleeping less because of our other classes. The practice exam for her midterms did not help in the least, I walked out of that midterm terrified. If you can take Retsek, Scott, Erker, anyone who is better take them instead. Even if the teacher is only nicer, take them instead, at least you will feel comfortable asking questions.

I learned more from youtube and Khan academy than I did from her. Professor Majhoor doesn't know how to teach. Don't take her if you can, she has a heavy workload, something is due at the beginning of every class, her practice midterm had nothing to do with her second midterm. Her quizzes are like pop quizzes as in you have no idea what material will be on it. Basically she isn't worth your tuition.

Please. She does not simplify the material, but she hypersimplifies the class material, which makes everything deceptively easy. Do not take anything she says at face value because you will realize that the labs, the homework, the quizzes, and the midterms are extremely rigorous and challenging. You suspect that midterms are actually doable, but when you actually take the test, you will instantly know the difference. There are a lot of labs to take up most of your time compared to everything except the midterms. The quizzes are always cumulative, so anything is free game after the first couple quizzes. Anything includes lectures, homework, labs, textbook material, and previous information mentioned in class. On average, the quizzes are all or nothing, so you better get that A or B because whatever that is left is going to bad. The first midterm is supposed to be easy, but in my opinion, the test was definitely challenging. The reviews are also oversimplifications on the concepts and equations. The textbook does a poor job of explaining the material to a student that has not taken Chemistry since high school. If you are having trouble, you should use Khan Academy's videos to fill in most of the holes. If you are talented or a genius in chemistry, this General Chemistry I course should be simple. For everyone else, the class should be extremely tough. Also, for the five percent of the class, three individuals, doing well, I hope you are having fun. Metaphorically speaking as for future students, I wish you luck because this class and professor will certainly enjoy your blood as they laugh and drain away your life. (NOTE: METAPHORS)

WORST TEACHER IN THE HISTORY OF TEACHING EVER. oh my god. she literally is so insanely rude and inconsiderate. she is evil and enjoys watching her students fail. I am not kidding, she's by far the worst teacher I have ever encountered. if you ask questions, she mocks and makes fun of you, claiming your stupid. she doesn't do shit to help anyone, she literally thrives on her class utterly failing. the amount of dislike i posses for the teacher is unreal, fire her dumb butt and deport her persian diva horrible being back to where she belongs.

Chem 127 is generally a very difficult class. This course takes A LOT OF WORK! If you want a good grade you are going to have to do it on your own. The professor defiantly understand the material but she does not make it easy to understand and doesn't provide help to students that are struggling. She has no sympathy about the fact that you have other classes that take up time and stuff like family or life can get in the way. She is not lenient with grades at all and excepts you to read the book and understand it ( which is asking a lot) To pass this class I would get a group together once a week to work on pre-labs, homework and studying. Also make friends with the LA's because they will help you study and be very supportive. Don't give up! It is EXTREMELY DIFFICULT... but can be passed. Just don't look for help from her.

She has no concept of what it means to be a teacher. She had no interest in students doing well and she cannot communicate at all. She was incredibly unorganized and unprepared for lectures(stumbling all over the place, writing things down wrong, talking about things that had nothing to do with the lecture slides). Her LA's did the grading and her practice problems and lecture slides had clearly been taken from somewhere else, so she put in minimal effort for this class. When someone asked a question, in stead of giving an answer she would embarrass them for not already knowing. She has unreasonable and even impossible expectations of her students(which is ironic considering how little effort she put into teaching the course). I had a pretty good high school chemistry teacher, and was able to remember most of it. If I had gone into the class without already learned a majority of the material, I would have failed the class so hard. If you have the misfortune of having her, the best advice I can give you is to bear through her bitchiness in class and find someone else to actually teach you the material. Good Luck!

I LITERALLY HATE THIS BITCH. She is insane. Don't EVER EVER EVER take this class. Biggest mistake you'll ever make. So much frustration and hatred for this woman. I can't even believe she has a job.

Ok well to simplify it all, she is absolutely terrible in every aspect of teaching. She cannot lecture to save her life, she expects far too much from the students, she cannot admit to herself that she is the problem not the students, every assignment or quiz is graded ridiculously hard(don't count on any partial credit), in class she is rude to students, she is extremely unhelpful in answering questions(don't even try asking questions, she will just say you didn't do the reading or don't pay attention and say its your fault for not knowing something), and so on..... Basically DO NOT TAKE HER, it will be a mistake. I honestly enjoy chem and think the class could have been fun with another professor but now i feel I'm at a disadvantage going into chem 128 because i learned nothing from her.

Before taking this class I looked up her ratings from the other schools that she taught at in the past few years. They were pretty bad ratings, but I decided to have faith and tell myself that the class is what you make of it.WHAT A MISTAKE. Unfortunately she was the only chem teacher left by the time my registration rotation got around (and now I know why). Since I had a basic understanding of chemistry from my sophomore year of high school, it was definitely difficult to follow along- especially because she gives off a bad vibe to students who ask questions. If you don't understand a concept that she thinks is simple, she'll accuse you for not studying enough. She spent 30 minutes of class one time lecturing about how we should get less rest if we have to so we can study more. Then 5 minutes later, she kicks a girl out of the classroom for being sick and tells her that she needs more rest (most condescending person EVER). She's extremely unapproachable and she's not the type of teacher to do a curve because as long as there's a small amount of people getting consistent As on everything, she believes that she's doing her job. Also, expect to have anxiety during this class almost every single day. I can't recall a time where my heart was beating at a regular pace when I was sitting in there. So yeah, if it wasn't obvious enough, don't take her. You can probably get an A if you already have a good background in chemistry- but if you don't, good luck. Maybe you can pray that she'll be better when she's not pregnant anymore.

I can't even begin to explain the trouble I have had with this teacher. When most of your class feels it is necessary to talk to the DEPARTMENT HEAD about this teacher you know its bad. In the beginning she gives a huge talk about rules of the lab and the class, then breaks almost every single one of them herself (eating in the lab, using her phone during class/DURING A LAB etc). If it wasn't for the lab assistants, most of us would not have any hope in this class. If you do not have any background of Chem you will be even worse off. The material is presented unorganized and more complicated than anyone could ever understand. She does not give partial credit, and on some assignments there is a possibility to get NEGATIVE POINTS (you can miss more points than the work is actually worth). She is rude, arrogant, unpleasant, and unwelcoming. She is very accusatory and makes excuses for herself even though everyone INCLUDING HERSELF knows she is wrong. It is always the students fault. She yells at us to do practice problems, yet the practice problems are given 60 at a time, and there is almost never a solutions page. Quizzes are on random material, and she has no problem when the average on the quizzes is a 7/25. I genuinely feel like she does not care about our learning and success, because if she does she has a horribly awful way of showing it. Definitely not a teacher that fits the usual Cal Poly standard.

Do yourself a favor and take this class with ANY other professor. She teaches you the absolute basics of topics then expects you to learn the rest yourself, and no one wants to ask her questions because she typically responds by criticizing your study habits instead of actually helping you out. She makes her LAs do all of her work and gives no partial credit. She is very rude and very unhelpful and I am convinced that a majority of this class isn't even passing. Best of luck if you do end up with her.

In this course I put in a lot of time and made a conscious effort to always go to office hours however my grade never reflected the amount of time I put in. Her lectures at the beginning of the quarter were pretty good and she did a lot of examples on the board; however, when we started learning about more complex topics she did less examples (barely any) and really expected us to learn a lot in our own time. Her office hours weren't too helpful either I wouldn't recommend her as a teacher.

Mahjoor is terrible. She has no idea how to teach at all. Her lectures are hard to follow and all the labs aside from one or two are extremely difficult, and it doesn't help that she wouldn't give us any pointers. Whatever you do don't sign up for this class. I don't usually write reviews but I actually feel she ruined Chemistry along with Cal Poly a little for me. Even though I passed the class the most stressful thing ever. She is extremely unprofessional. She enforces a strict no phone policy, yet during the lab while none of us have any idea what to do, she just sits at her desk and plays flappy bird or something on her phone. Honestly, I would have rather just taken 12 units had I known this class would be that terrible.

The most rude and disrespectful person I have ever met. I have no idea why she wants to teach because it seems like she hates students. She gives so much attitudes whenever you ask her a question. She definitely doesn't follow her syllabus (i.e. she said we would have 10 quizzes and she would drop the lowest one; we only had 2 quizzes all quarter). Also, she gave the entire class a zero on our lab reports one week, but decided she was just kidding two weeks later. I got a decent grade, but only because I worked hard and got outside help. If you can switch lab sections, try your best to do so!!!!

Mahjoor is literally my least favorite person in the entire world. I waited a few quarters to write this so it wouldn't be biased by my overwhelming hatred and anger but it hasn't changed. She is crazy, unprofessional, rude, unhelpful, lazy, selfish and gives zero shits about her students. On two separate occasions I asked her a question (that other people around me had too) and she just shrugged her shoulders and walked away. Literally didn't say a word. Then when she sees me angrily telling the people around me, she calls me out in front of the whole classing saying stuff about it being a 300 level class and we should know what we're doing. Pretty shitty to have a lab teacher you can't ask questions to. She gave everyone half credit on the first lab report for not including a methods section after not telling us to and leaving it out of the syllabus. Gave us no credit for not putting our unknown numbers on a report. Gets FURIOUS if you don't do EXACTLY what she says. She will not help in any way if you ask. She's made a girl cry then just walk away. The only positive thing is she gives a pretty good pre-lab lecture that explains things well. But if you don't understand it or remember perfectly you have no chance of getting assistance later.
