Humbe is still the best professor I've ever taken, and he really makes you feel valued and nurtured. 10/10 would take, get to know him and you'll not only learn from him professionally but gain a friend. :)

Humberto is without a doubt the best first year professor! He truly cares for his students and really pushes them to their limits to produce their best work. Even though I was pretty reserved in his studio, his always made time to meet with me so we could discuss the various ways I could take my designs. He's an extremely talented, humble, and inspiring professor. Try to take him if you can! You'll work super hard and probably pull some all-nighters, but you won't regret it!

Oh my god. Humberto is an angel sent down from the heavens to spread his words of wisdom and provide comfort and guidance to his wandering and troubled children. You'll learn a lot from him. He makes you excited to be an architect because you can tell how passionate he is about it. There's a reason why his studio fills up faster than I can say "Pam-a-lam-a ding-dong." Srsly tho Humberto is chill af.

Humberto really knows what he's doing and saying when it comes to architecture, and if you're interested in learning about the field, some of the little nuggets he has to say are useful to keep in mind. He is also a really chill guy, a little serious but still chill. He never judges your work and he gives really, really solid, constructive feedback & criticism. His ideas are usually good, but he's totally fine if you ignore his ideas and do your own thing, as long as you can execute and present it well (just like everything in architecture). He does have a lot of scans & uploads throughout the quarter but it makes your life easy when you go to do the portfolio. He likes to teach other things during class time; for example, in my class we did multiple (like 4 or 5 total) drawing exercises that sort of helped for some of the assignments we had to do anyway, but it was still extra work. He is good at reading personalities and there is a kind of calming atmosphere in his studio most of the time. (Side note: He knows many people's names before class starts from the roster, which is pretty impressive.)

If he is available then do not even think about taking another professor. He is the best hands down.

Humberto is definitely the professor to take if you are looking to develop your own way of thinking and path of growth as an architecture student. Like the comment below said, you don't really get some of the activities at first, but then when you look at them all together you realize that it is his way of letting your creativity prosper. He focuses more on how the architecture is related to the site and its surroundings as well as the process it took to get to the final outcome. He offers helpful and enriching critiques by really going into in-depth talks with you about your project and encouraging you to find a solution to problems on your own. I had Freeby and Humberto and I have to say both are amazing teachers with completely different, but effective, teaching styles, but Humberto puts a little more effort into caring for the students themselves and not just the work they put out.

Humberto is both frustrating and brilliant, so you are forced to work your ass off but also learn an immense amount about architecture. When you start his class you are really confused by his teaching methods and they also force you to do two times as much work as the other studios. However, he makes you jump through extra hoops in order to teach you things about architecture that will make you stand out from other people in the industry, and will make you have higher success later on in life. As well as that, he makes you realize the meaning and importance of architecture at a philosophical level and how amazing it really is (especially to those students who are passionate about it). I was unconvinced that architecture was my passion for a while before and after choosing to study it, however being in his studio has made me sure beyond a doubt. Take him!

This teacher is a Godsend. I learned so much from his class because he views architecture differently from anyone that I know. At first, his teaching methods might come off as odd or unproductive, but everything clicks once the quarter ends and you realize how much you learned about architecture. I am explicitly telling you to take this man. He truly cares for every one of his students, studying their image and name before the quarter starts so that he may build a relationship with him/her. I am definitely going to miss his class when I go off to be an ARCE. I hope he reads this because he needs to know how awesome of a person he is.

Fine teacher, but a little dry in the presentation. I wouldnt suggest having her at 8:00 in the morning, might be difficult staying awake.

Professor Humberto is extremely caring toward his students. This makes all the difference when you can tell a professor actually cares about his students. He is wonderful at helping students improve their analog drawing skills. Highly recommend taking.

Humberto is very wise and knows architecture theory very well. He takes a very methodical approach to his teachings which encourages students to understand spacial qualities at a deeper level. He encourages hand sketched and experimenting with artistic representation. All architecture students should experience his studio at some point.
