This class was absolutely fantastic! Linn is an incredible professor who made the material interesting and never overloaded us with work. The readings were optional and we only had two essays, a midterm and a final. He dressed up as a Viking for lectures and the movie nights were awesome! Linn set the bar very high for my other professors and I will take his 223 course even though I already got credit for it! Take this course!! You won't regret it!

Dr Linn is truly incredible. It took me until the end of the quarter to fully take advantage of her office hours, and that is my biggest regret. There is no excuse to get a bad grade in her class; she wants you to succeed, and if you go to her for help you will understand the material. She is very down to earth and fun to talk to as well. I will definitely be taking more of her classes in the future.

Dr. Linn was a really nice professor. Now i have taking this class before in high school and struggled mightily. Now at Cal Poly I had to take this class again and I found it to be really easily. Dr. Linn is a fantastic professor if you already have background in Calculus, if this is your first time seeing derivatives and integrals I would recommend someone else. Even at times i became confused with what Linn was writing all over the chalk board. Luckily i already had a preset idea of how to do all the problems so i resorted to my own methods when she confused me. She tends to go pretty quick as well. Midterms are medium difficulty and weekly quizzes that are straight off the homework. The final can replace your lowest midterm so that was really generous. I recommend Linn for high Math classes, but maybe not Calculus 1

First of all her name is Joyce Lin with one "N" in case you are confused. She is an excellent math instructor! She would patiently explain any question you have, so don't be scared to ask questions in class. She presents the material so clearly that I never felt the need to go to office hours. Basically, she is a super nice person and you will not regret taking her class!

I'm naming my first child after her. Lin is the best math teacher I have ever had. She presents everything clearly, she is helpful at office hours, and ALWAYS leaves plenty of time for you to ask questions. The homework she assigns does not have to be turned it but the questions from it is what she uses on her quizzes and midterms. 10/10 would recommend to have.

Dr. Linn was a great professor. She presented the material very well with beautiful handwriting and no accent. She asked if there were any questions after every important part of the lecture and always made sure to clarify everything. The best part about taking her class is that she makes web videos of example problems before every test. She really puts in the extra work to make this class easier and more enjoyable. If I have the opportunity again I will definitely take her class.

Joyce Linn is such an amazing teacher in every way. She presents the material in such a beautiful way you cannot help but love Calculus. The course is graded based on weekly quizzes, two midterms, and a final. Beside the occasional cookies she distributes in class, the best thing about her is her ability to cater to each student's needs; if you are good at Calculus, she will make sure to keep interested and challenged, and if you are not as good, she will make sure to help you get through it.

Joyce Linn is a great lecturer. She's wonderfully nice and has great pacing. She'll answer just about any question you ask. Exams are fair and pretty much based on homework and her online webcasts (which are very helpful). My only problem with her class was the tough grading. For me at least, the grading was very strict and it was hard to be precise enough to meet the grading's expectations, especially with the strange subject matter of Math 143. All in all, a wonderful person and professor stuck with a harsh grader.

Professor Linn may be the best professor I have ever had. Math 143 is a very strange class since most of it is conceptual, but Professor Linn does a great job of explaining the subject to her students. She has the ability to take a step back and understand why a student may be confused on a subject matter. She also has online webcasts which can be accessed at any time; these really clarify what may seem ambiguous. If you have a chance to take one of her sections, DO IT!!!

Joyce is a kickass teacher. She honestly wants students to succeed and gives you every chance to succeed. We had optional homework with worksheets and quizzes every week. Quizzes are super fair, sometimes straight from the homework, and worksheets really help you to understand the material well. Her exams are also quite fair. If you study and know how the material you'll get a good exam grade, no curveballs. She has online webcasts if you missed something in class, which are lifesavers, and she is great with answering questions in class. She gives midterm reviews in class, saying what will be on the exam, and gave us a final review worksheet. The only bad thing I could say about her is she is a tough grader. I got marked down 6% for not writing AST on a series evaluation; which is pretty harsh. Overall great teacher, take her if you can.

Great professor! Strongly recommend taking her. Very organized and prepared for lectures. She has very clear handwriting and goes at an easy to follow pace. The reason why I got an A in the class was because of her office hours so take advantage of them!

Definitely a fantastic decision to take Professor Lin, I did not regret it at all! She is extremely fair and her quizzes and midterms are very doable. The nature of Calc 3 made this class a little more difficult, but considering that I almost never did the homework and only used it as a study guide for quizzes or tests, I think I did fairly well in the class. From reading the other evaluations from other students who had her Spring quarter (like me), it looks like I could really have benefited from doing the homework, so I recommend you follow that piece of advice. I will definitely add that she was extremely fast and went through the material at breakneck speed (for me), but at least she knows exactly what she's saying and doesn't stray from the point or do pointless examples. Definitely take her!!

I took this class because my roommate had her for Calc 2 and had positive responses about her. I don't regret taking Lin. Lin is great at teaching and does well to clarify the material as best as she can. Sometimes she can rush through the problems and lessons but she always stops and asks the class if they have any questions. I went to her office hours a few times and she helped me a lot. I did poorly the first midterm, but the second midterm was a lot better in comparison. You just need to do the homework problems before each quiz because it's basically the same problems but numbers are switched. She gives review study guides before every midterms: super helpful. She weighs the midterms equally and drops the lowest midterm with the final if your final score is higher. She also drops the lowest quiz grade. She WANTS you to succeed and is very helpful. There are worksheets that we need to turn in for Polylearn. They are easy and are 5% of the grade (participation grade). 10/10 would recommend.

Joyce Lin was an awesome math professor. Her teaching style is really good and she explains things very clearly and provides lots of examples. After every few examples or so she'll stop and ask if the class has any questions, and if not, she'll move on. Her quizzes and tests were very fair and not too hard. If anything, the material was a little hard but she was an amazing instructor. Would recommend to anyone who needs to take calc!

Professor Linn was an overall excellent professor. Calc 3 has some strange/abstract stuff, especially with series and sequences, but she explained everything clearly and in a straightforward manner. Very open to questions, but I tended not to have any thanks to her teaching style. Weekly quizzes and 2 midterms all reflected homework material (the homework was not collected). 10/10 would take again.

Proficient at breaking concepts down and teaching in a way that most students understood. Also, answered questions quickly as to not waste time in class, but well enough that it helped the students. Also, she's attractive so Calc 3 is much more bearable with that in mind.

Joyce is hands down the most beautiful professor I ever laid my eyes upon. If you have yellow fever TAKE THIS CLASS AT ALL COSTS. Not only is she beautiful she is also a great professor. She wastes no time in class and breaks down materials so it is easier for us to understand. It was the best 10 weeks of my life. #blessed

Professor Lin was awesome. Her class had a great structure. She presented new topics clearly, then worked through examples for us to take notes on. Homework was assigned but optional, however I would recommend that you do it. Tests were pretty fair, similar to the homework assigned. Would take her class again 10/10. Also, she's freaking hot.

She was awesome. Her lectures were super clear and she was friendly and helpful. At the beginning of the quarter, the lectures were a little dull, but by the end they were fun and everything made a lot of sense. She gave out a ton of worksheets and study guides which were great to study from. She is not the best at drawing in three dimensions, which is a big part of the class and my only complaint about this professor. However, she acknowledges it and will often show graphs or other diagrams from her computer in matlab so that the class can see more intricate details or see what exactly is flux, circulation, and any other topic in class. For the big tests, she puts up webcasts that you can watch at home and study from. Overall, I would highly recommend this professor because she presented the material super clearly and was very helpful and understanding.

Ms. Lin is incredible. She can clearly presents our course materials in such a fast pace through out entire quarter. Don't skip a class!!! Unless it's absolutely necessary. She talks very fast and usually ends class 5-10 mins before bell rings. I believe chapter 16.5-16.8 are optional materials but she teaches them all. There are two midterms and one final, but no quizzes. Tests are somewhat challenge but you should be fine if you study your textbook and go to class EVERYDAY. And for most people, it is kind of rushy to finish her midterm in 50 mins, be aware. So you will have a very high chance to bomb one of your midterms; however, she allows you to replace a lower-scored midterm with your final. Overall a great teacher. I recommend her as your math prof.

Professor Linn is a really good professor. She managed to clearly explain the material and give good examples of how the material could be applied outside of class. Before each exam, she also created videos on topics that the class thought they weren't feeling great on. The videos were an immense help as she would work through a problem for that topic in its entirety from the problem statement to the worked out solution, not skipping any steps. She provides in-class worksheets for parts of the material that she thought people would have a hard time on. They were really helpful, especially since she encouraged working in groups.

I found Linn to be a great professor. She presents material in an easy to follow way, and does a good job of answering questions. Before each exam, she did a very thorough review of what we should know. She also put up videos of her completing examples, and was very open to taking requests for specific kinds of problems to record. I would definitely recommend taking her if you can.

Her lectures were great, and she was always willing to answer questions. I never went to office hours, but I talked to her after class once or twice for a couple minutes and she would walk through how to solve the problems I was having trouble with very clearly. She had incredibly reasonable expectations on quizzes, and had generous curves on the tests. If you did the homework (or at least a small part of it), the quizzes should be incredibly easy. She weighted the quiz section of the grade about as heavily as a single midterm for our class which meant that it was a great grade cushion. I think she may have dropped the lowest graded quiz for each student over the quarter (but I can't remember). She spent extra time making screen casts of requested problems so the students would have extra examples to study off of. This was helpful since you could see a type of problem worked through step by step, and you could pause or rewind to make sure you catch any intricacies in the problem that you might have missed in the class lecture. I would definitely recommend her, and if I had the chance I'd absolutely take a class from her again.

To put it simply, Joyce Lin was a Joy to work with. She is an incredibly smart lady who clearly explains topics well on the board. She can go fast at times, but that is because she gets straight to the point and makes sure all the topics are covered. If she has time then other material is covered. Unlike other teachers you really won't see problems on the homework or tests that look unfamiliar. Joyce also posts incredibly helpful webcasts aka "teaching videos" online. They are pretty much like her teaching but you can pause it any time and learn it very clearly. If you get the chance to take Joyce, don't hesitate!

first of all I'm a girl so I'm not going to waste any time reviewing the attractiveness of my professor..... hands down the best professor I've ever had. her strengths include giving students all/any tools necessary to be successful (giving lots of study material i.e. reviews, videos, etc). caring about the success of her students. providing many different examples. refining class plans to fit the needs of students (noticing if the class is struggling on a certain topic and modifying the class to dedicating more practices and time to that topic). testing and grading in a way that measures student understanding fairly and accurately. organizing a realitivly compact course to allow students to not feel like we're rushing through the material.

you know what, i took her last quarter in Calc 4 and now i finished linear analysis this quarter with her too! I had her 9 am class which was still "too early" for me to wake up. I ditched 20% of all lectures this quarter but i still did fine (i think). Homework is due every Tuesday, no quizzes. Each midterm worth 20% of your grade while the final is 40%. You can replace one of your midterms w/ your final's grade if and only if you get a higher score on final. You have to do those pre-class video exercise b/c they are parts of your grade. Go to her office hour if you have any types of questions. Take her with no doubts!

Linn is a very decent teacher, but her class is also very hard. Don't be deceived by her incredible polyratings, because in reality she is a solid 2.8. I don't know why everyone likes Linn so much for other classes. The only positive that I see about her is that her webcasts are nice. She asks us what topics to make videos on and she does which is really helpful. Other than this, she gives condescending answers when you ask for clarification in office hours and class. She makes her tests very unrealistic compared to easy in class and homework problems. This is all not to mention the fact that she crammed a completely knew topic that should have take weeks to learn in the last two days. Overall, really smart and tries to give an impression that she cares, but she is not who you should take for this class. Go with someone with a lower polyrating Im sure youll do better in the class

Dr. Lin is an amazing math teacher! During her lectures, she tells you everything you need to know and is always willing to answer questions. We also did worksheets on the topics as we went along which were very helpful. Before each midterm, she gives you a study guide that reviews all of the material, and she gives hints to what will be on the midterm. The webcasts she posts on PolyLearn are also very helpful, and one midterm question was almost exactly the same as the webcast, so make sure to watch them. We had homework due each week (which took a few hours to do), 2 midterms, and a final. You will find a more helpful, caring, clear, and straightforward professor than Dr. Lin. The negative comments in the previous reviews for her MATH 344 class are not true, her midterms are very doable and we did not cover very much material in the class. We only covered about 3 chapters, and the pace of the class felt slow, compared to Linear I where we covered an entire book. If you have the chance to take Lin, do it!

Lin is an amazing teacher. You can tell she understands the material very well and can explain the concepts excellently. The class is difficult, and she tries to help you as much as possible in answering questions and preparing you for the tests. She gives study guides before every exam and tells you almost exactly what will be on the exam and how it will show up. The only complaint I have is that she only gives a few practice problems before each exam and she uses her own textbook, so it is difficult to find more practice problems to study with. Also, on one of the midterms she decided to grade extra harsh on the one really difficult problem, which didn't really make sense. Luckily, she replaces a midterm grade with your grade on the final if it's higher. Overall, her class was hard but fair and i learned a lot.
