Vaughan is very good about going over his labs and exercises, but because of the technical nature of GIS, it is easy to get lost along the way or run into errors. He goes over it step by step, and if you get lost, just raise your hand and he will get around to helping you. He tries to help students and troubleshoot issues for students on an individual basis, so it might take some time. However, the quality of his help is very good. For working out issues on your own, looking it up from ESRI's website or consulting the workbook for basic issues is your better option. Overall, Vaughan is an excellent instructor and him helping students on an individual basis really shows his wide knowledge of the subject. Just remember that the subject introduces a highly technical software as a basis for what he teaches, so be patient and work with him. His help is only as good as the amount of work you are willing to put in. Don't expect to yell for help and have him do your work for you, even though he is probably skilled enough to perform your assignment in a matter of minutes.

Vaughan was one of my favorites. Middle-aged, gruff and rugged with short curly hair, laid-back, easy-going temperament. He describes the arcGIS software as "like crack to me." He's really into GIS (apparently) and good at it as well. He can usually help when you're having issues, but everyone is having issues with arcGIS so he's in high demand. He wants to help, though. The final project was a SIGNIFICANT part of our grades. If you get him in the future, I'll be surprised, because I think he said he was going to leave Cal Poly in the next couple years.

Robert Vaughan is a cool professor who knows GIS extremely well. He is a professional and does a lot of work with the Forest Service and other large organizations. Because he is so smart, it can sometimes be a little hard to keep up with him. He does his best to explain, but can sometimes go too fast. That being said, he does his best to help his students and he wants them to succeed. Although you can end up putting a lot of work into this 3 unit class, he grades fairly and recognizes hard work.
