Dr. White is a breath of fresh air from the other professors I have taken in the physics department. His lectures are easy to follow and he recognizes when the entire class is struggling and will slow down and answer questions. His tests and grading are fair, and he is generous with partial credit. He understands the majority of the material he covers (with the exception of the chemistry bits at the end of 132, but to be fair this was his first time teaching the course at Poly), and returns tests and quizzes back to you quickly. He seems to genuinely care about his students and I would recommend him to anyone trying to take 132 or 133.

In the beginning, I was terrified of this class and physics in general. I received a C in 141 even with a generous 15% curve and a 10.5/20 on the first quiz we took in this class. However, at the end of the quarter Dr. White proved physics is not to be feared. He is an excellent professor and his lectures are clear and concise. He genuinely is concerned if his students understand the material and is eager to explain any concept thoroughly in office hours, even if he has to spend extra time to do so. He is very reasonable and gives back points on quizzes/midterms if you can argue your thought process thoroughly (although you may not have to because he is a fair grader and the average midterm grades were about 86%!). I also enjoyed how his class was laid back and he was very approachable. No homework is collected, a quiz and class problem a week, 2 midterms, and a final (worth 30%). Overall, I highly recommend Dr. White! He's a solid professor so sign up for his class. (Oh and I received an A on the final and an A in the class! What a difference from 141!).

Dr. White is not only understanding, but he's an excellent professor. He makes sure that you don't just know the formulas but understand them as well. I was a little nervous after doing poorly on the first couple of quizzes, but once I settled in, White's class made more sense than any other.

Dr. White is great. He's a clear teacher that is always willing to help out. He really wants everyone to succeed. As for the class itself he doesn't correct homework (but it is very useful to do). Your grade is based on a weekly quiz, weekly turn-in problem, and then midterms and a final. The tests are not heard if you understand the concepts. I had Dr. White his first quarter teaching here and although he seemed less sure of himself in the beginning of the quarter he quickly got more confident and his teaching consistently improved (and it stated out well enough, he just got even better). I'm sure he will continue to improve and I'd love to keep taking classes from him in the future.

Dr. White was a great teacher; he taught clearly, would check if anyone had a question, and was pretty funny. I had him for lab and lecture so it was nice that the class corresponded with the labs perfectly. Labs were done and turned in during class, and they were not too difficult to complete. Quizzes were open note and for midterms and the final you could write whatever equations you wanted on a piece of paper. Overall I liked this class a lot and his teaching style was straight forward and clearly presented.

Dr. White is great! I had him Fall of 2013, during his first quarter teaching at Cal Poly. You could tell he was nervous during some lectures but that didn't stop him from explaining the material very well. He recognized when students were struggling with certain aspects of the course and slowed down or sped up in lecture where appropriate for the overall class. I also had him for lab, which I am super thankful for because it made is easier to understand the material. Do the homework! He doesn't check it but it definitely helps to understand the course. Write down as much as you need on your cheat sheet but know your stuff. It is only really there so that you don't have to memorize equations and you can focus on learning the process. Awesome guy. Take him for 132.

Eric White is an absolutely awesome professor. He explains the material clear and in depth, derives all of the concepts well, and is always able to answer any questions you have trouble with. He has quizzes that are similar to homework problems, recitation questions that help challenge you to really understand the material, and in depth labs that help expand your understandings of concepts. All of his tests were fair and covered exactly what you learned. They are often straight forward style questions, but with a little twist to make sure you are still challenged. Each midterm allows an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper (one side), and both sides for the final so you can write down every equation you could ever need. Best tactic for this class is to do the homework and ask questions: understanding the material is the best way to do well here. Go to office hours to get help with some of the weird concepts, he explains everything really well, and he is just a cool guy to talk to. You can really tell he loves what he does. Absolutely awesome guy, and if you get a chance to have him, it's a great experience.

He was awesome....probably one of the best professors I've had at cal poly. The weekly quizzes are based off the optional hw and example problems in class. You get to use your notes on these so there's no reason to not do well. He gives fair partial credit when you don't get the answer right. His lectures are actually good too. It's one of those classes where I didn't stress, I learned a ton, and got a lot out of the effort I put in. He can be pretty funny sometimes too which makes class enjoyable!

FANTASTIC teacher! Dr. White is insanely smart and great at teaching. He made the subject material seem so easy that it didn't even feel like a normal physics class. His tests are very hard but the final wasn't bad. He prepared you for everything. You get homework once a week but it isn't due. He's very nice and great at answering questions. Get this teacher.

Professor white is a great professor. I have no criticisms besides him being absent the last week of class. However he made up for this by providing adequate substitutes and communicating via email. Overall this class was challenging but easily manageable.

White is easily the best lecture/lab teacher I have had at Calpoly thus far. I had him spring quarter freshmen year and he presented the material clearly and even expressed interest in what he was teaching. Would 100% recommend choosing White if he is an option for you.

You are highly encouraged to do the reading and hw assignments (even though you aren't graded on them).I spent an enormous amount of time on the hw problems, but it is only good for teaching you the basics. The quizzes, recitations (in class assignments), and exams are on a completely different level! He doesn't give you hw assignments to properly prepare you at all. He is okay with the class average being a C. Overall this teacher is NOT a 4/4 as the reviews here are saying..

Kick ass professor, very approachable and explains the material in a clear and concise way. He is a relatively tough grader, but well prepares you for the material. Lab days usually get out an hour or so early every day, and are also pretty easy. His recitations are hard and the quizzes are of medium difficulty (do the homework) but over all the class should be an easy B or medium difficulty A.

White is awesome. He is passionate about physics and teaches the material well. I didn't go to office hours but he is very helpful if you don't understand. I had to miss a lab and he sent me the information I needed to do the lab. Excellent professor.
