Dr. Jones is a teacher that teaches straight from the book. Whether that is good or bad you can decide, but I was bored out of my mind. At the beginning of class he'll outline what he'll go over in class. The rest of class is a bunch of definitions that he takes straight from the book. He gives us the word, and then the definition, making sure to read it slowly and repeat the sentance 3 or 4 times. This method of teaching was very frustrating for me. I paid for this class, and I expected to get a teacher that could present the material in a different perspective than the book. I do not recommend this teacher to anyone.

First of all, the class was VERY,VERY,VERY boring. I found myself dozing at least 5 times a class, I just wanted to stick my hand in a meat grinder! Other than that he was a nice guy and lectures strait from the text......I got a decent grade because i studied my balls off, and went to class.

This was one of the most boring, tedious classes I've ever taken! Professor Jones teaches straight out of the book, which is almost more boring than his lectures. His tests are long and fairly picky, but as long as you get the notes and do some of the reading it isn't too hard. He never has class interaction, you just sit there! I would recommend trying to find a different class, though, because I heard the other teacher is just as bad. The most interesting class was when we had a guest speaker.

Dr. Jones did a great job teaching this class. It was a huge class and he made it possible to understand all the materials. If you go to class, thats all you need! Before the test, he hands out a really detailed outline to help you study and if you know everything on these outlines, you know the test. I strongly recommend him!

Jones made ANT 201 the best and most fun GE course I've taken so far at Poly. This class is pretty easy, and he is also TOO funny so it wasn't tough to stay awake. There are 3 midterms (the final is a midterm). Just listen in lecture- it's not really necessary to do all the reading- and you'll get a good grade. Prof. Jones rocks... and he really likes the !Kung a lot!

This class has tons of reading, but actually doing the reading may not even be worth the time. Study the review sheet, and memorize the basic concepts and the groups/tribes associated with them. The lectures are really dry and boring, but the videos are interesting. No homework or quizzes, just 3 tests. Fairly interesting topic, but I'm glad it's over.

Sometimes his lectures seemed ong, but they weren't bad. He had powerpoint presentations for everything, so everything is clear. Make sure that you write down any examples that he mentions because he tends to ask about them on the test. Before the test print out the outline, and go through that and make sure that you know the examples. If you like to know random information about different cultures you'll love this class, and be surprised at how much you learned.

I am a senior now but I took Ant 201 with Dr. Jones when I was a freshman. It was one of the best classes I took at Poly. Pay attention to the lecture and it is easy to get a good grade as well as learn a lot. I also took 202 with Dr. Jones and it was a completely different class. There was much more memorization and it wasn't quite as interesting.

Great teacher. The tests were all MC. The final was harder then the rest of the tests so make sure to study extra hard for that. The tests are both on class material and book reading. His power point is very good and interestring. I would take him again anyday.

BORING! he is pretty dorky, and not funny at all. As a teacher he is a SLIDE READER, and his slides are never right. MY ADVISE: He hands out a study guide that has EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW FOR THE TEST on it. Get that, and never come to class, ohh, and don't do the reading either.

Jones is a nice guy. Really. However, he can't lecture. The class was overflowing on the first day, and slowly fewer and fewer people ever showed up. Why, you might ask? He pauses all the time in between sentences, which makes it extremely hard to follow his train of thought. The material can almost entirely be learned on your own if you just read the assigned reading in the texts, and because of this, I figured out that I could do better on midterms by not going to class cause I had more time to study for all my classes as a whole. I saved 4 hours of my life each week by not going to class. There's two midterms and a final, and honestly this class was the biggest waste of my time. Jones's passion is really in archaeology, not anthropology, and I don't know why the retards of Poly assigned the class to him. He'd probably be really interesting and a lot more coherent in what he's actually specialized in. But then again, as we can see from other recent decisions (ahem, registration, parking, etc.), the administration at Poly hasn't exactly been making decisions with any amount of logic as of late anyway, have they?

This class had a lot of information, some of which could be boring at times, but Jones always has a power point which is great for keeping you on track in your notes. However, sometimes the lettering on the outline is wrong, which is a bit confusing. I'd recommend sitting in the front row, it improves your attention. There are three tests, none of which are cumulative, which is very handy. They're all multiple choice and true/false, but they can be kind of picky. Expect a lot of choices like "A and C" or "All of the above." Also, you get a lot of questions about the practices of certain cultures, so make sure you pay attention to examples he gives during class. There are three books for this class, one general textbook, one reader with stories, and a novel about Ishi. The textbook is really dry, I'd suggest just coming to class, taking good notes, and just skimming that book for things that he hasn't lectured on. The reader is actually pretty interesting, it has a lot of case studies from the field, and he does ask questions about these on the tests, you should read them. The Ishi book is really long, and you don't have much time to read it, but he basically tells you everything you need to know for the essay before the test. Professor Jones is a really nice guy, and I wouldn't mind taking another class from him. Plus, he likes the Giants, so that's extra points in my book.

I enjoyed Jones' class. I thought the material he presented was very interesting, although he definitely has some long pauses between thoughts, and will sometimes go off on tangents. You can get a sense of what's important and what's not fairly quickly, and if you have a friend to chat with during his pauses, the class isn't too hard to sit through. Use the study guides he gives you to study for exams - if you have a good understanding of the topics on the guides, you'll do fine. Also, you don't really need to read the textbook, just look at the pages he lists on the study guide and skip the rest. (P.S - My friend took ANT 201 from Cook the same term, and seemed to have a much harder time with the class. From what she said, I think Jones is the best choice...)

He is a boring, monotone lecturer, though he knows his material. His class is based on 3 exams which you have to do well on the final in order to keep the A. His exams are based on study guides that he hands out a week before the exam. Not a hard class, but definately will put you to sleep

I thought that Dr. Jones was a great teacher. He really presented all the material clearly, and told you everything that was going to be on the exam ahead of time. If you go to class and study the lecture outlines, then this class is an easy 'A'. The only thing that I didn't like about the class was the novel we had to read about a native american named, "Ishi." There was an essay question on this novel, but really, as long as you go to class and take notes, he will basically tell the class the answers to the essay questions. Overall, I would definitely recomend Dr. Jones to anyone who wants to learn a little about the past.

Dr. Jones knows his stuff. His main field of study is Archaeology but he was extremely informed on the subject of Social Anthropology. If you really want to find interest in the subject, then you will in this class. If you come in with a negative perspective, you'll think it's way boring. Personally I enjoyed the class. One of the best professors at Cal Poly period. Although 201 requires a bit of reading Dr. Jones does his best in presenting some rather dry material in a great engaging way. I enjoyed Dr. Jones and his class. His lectures are well organized and go over the material well. I had him for a 2-hour class, and I was rarely bored during his class. He doesn't assign too much reading to go with the lectures, making the workload very manageable. He has a good sense of humor, and it shows through his lectures. Every class, he prepares a fact sheet covering everything he'll be talking about that day, which is nice and helpful. His tests aren't overly difficult, but they aren't an easy-A neither. A decent amount of studying, if you listen in class, will warrant you a strong B. If you are interested in the class at all, I recommend taking Dr. Jones because he'll keep your interest.

Dr. Jones is really cool. This class was fun, especially when he made tools, and threw a spear (not a real spear, there is a better name which I forgot). I spent a lot of time studying the text, which I don't recommend. I didn't really get a hang of his exams until the final. You should spend a lot of time studying your notes from class, dates, and the order in which sites were discovered, because that is what he tests on. The fact sheets really help, and it shouldn't be hard to get a good grade in this class if you study. Watch out for the videos, though, as they are pretty boring. But Jones himself is interesting and a great teacher.

The class material is OK but he choose to ask questions based more on history and archeology rather than anthropology (which is what the course is supposed to be about). Basically, the tests don't test what you learned rather how well you can memorise names of the people who dug ancient cities up and when they did it.....little facts about the cultures themselves. Poor teacher.

I hated this class. It should be called Archaeology not World Prehistory. His tests are sort of rediculous because he concentrates on dates, not concepts. He brings lots of artifacts into class. If you are good at memorizing date after date after date, which artifact was found where, and the name of the archeaologist who dug it up, you will do well. He curves the tests, but he does not do each test on a separate curve, even though he claims he does. So If you do horrible on the the first test it's gonna bite you in the ass later on.

This class was very well organized and quite interesting as well. I will admit there is only so long that I can read about Homo Erectus before I get bored out of my mind but Jones does a very good job of keeping this information interesting. He brings in skulls, fossils and other artifacts on a regular basis. He made a stone tool in class out of obsidian and also demonstrated how to load and shoot a primitive Native American spear, which he shot at a trash can. The tests are difficult but not impossible. He puts a study guide online about a week before the test, if you can answer the questions on it you will do fine. Professor Jones is an incredibly successful man and I truly do commend him for him for his efforts. The fact that he incorporates his personal journeys to various sites in his presentations is intuitive as well. However, this class was very trying for me. This class consists of far too much memorization of sites, locations, dates, eras, events, monuments, artifacts, species, historic figures, people, practices, and theories- something that was very overwhelming to the nth degree. He was very generous to give us a fact sheet for the two midterms and final exam but they obviously wouldn't cover every single thing that he was going to put on the test. I would attempt to do the readings to the best of my ability but I often found the book to transgress in terms of content. It is also interesting to note that my class was averaging a solid B on the midterms- and I haven't the slightest clue as to how that happened. I thank God that there was no homework for this class and that the final exam was non-cumulative, but more importantly I thank God that the pain and suffering is finally over. With that being said I would personally never recommend this class to anyone who is not ready to memorize and crunch information. In a brief summary this is the worst class that I have ever had the pleasure of taking.

He publicly ridiculed fans of sports teams he dislikes by photoshopping their team memorablia on pictures of Neanderthals, in class. His name is Dr. Jones, and he's actually a legitimate archaologist (insert irony here). What a bad ass, amirite? Dr. Jones is very passionate about what he teaches and is a very nice guy. For those of you who are truly interested and passionate about archaeology and history, you will like his class. However, for everybody else who is just trying to fulfill a GE, I would strongly advise avoiding it. Every class is exactly the same-he lectures for the full two hours and provides outlines to follow while he talks. The amount of material you are responsible for knowing is overbearing. There are two midterms, a paper on a guest lecturer, and a final. He assigns reading but it is not graded and would probably be cheaper if you shared with a few other students. The test format is mostly multiple choice based on the lecture slides (memorize people, sites, dates of historical periods), some true/false, and some fill in the blank. Dr. Jones is very knowledgeable about what he is teaching (I know that, that is expected from every professor, however you'd be surprised..). He is very enthusiastic about his course and transmits that to his students. I wasn't looking forward to this class when I first received my schedule but after a couple lectures, it turned out to be one of my favorite classes! The information is interesting and he keeps you engaged pretty much throughout the lecture. He loves when students ask questions. He shows various clips as support for his lectures and majority of the time, they're interesting..except one. He turned off the lights and played the clip for around 25 minutes and all I remember was waking up when the lights came back on...I fell asleep. Professor Jones is an excellent professor, even if you have no idea/opinion of World Prehistory(Archaeology), he will definitely make you start to love it. Don't be afraid of taking this course, his midterms and finals are not that hard (but considering I didn't really study, I earned the C grade I got). He requires readings but honestly I didn't find them quite useful for his tests. He hands out pretty much 80% of the notes (he emails them to you later) and just haves you write the other 20% of the details in the notes. I found this to be really helpful as I would have the outline for pretty much every lecture...I just never studied. TAKE THIS COURSE! My grade in no way reflects the way Professor Jones teaches.

He is fun, passionate and intelligent. He knows his stuff. Personally I think the subject is boring but I he made it ok, I doubt anyone could have presented it in a more fun way. If you like ANT this should be awesome. He sends out a fact sheet every week on what he will go through in class. If you print it and bring it and take notes on it you will have all the information you need for the tests. Also reed his assigned articles. NO need to buy the book if you do this. According to me it was shit. He doesn't take attendance so you don't have to go but it's worth it since it's more fun than reading the book. He sends out a study guide before the test and if you learn everything in detail on that guide you'll be fine. The tests are straight forward but do know the details, it will ALL be on the tests. The final is cumulative and much harder (more information to study) then the two midterms. The only bad points are that the fact sheets and powerpoints are disorganised and sometimes it's hard to keep track on where he is on the timeline.

I find the subject of World Prehistory to be unbelievably boring, but Jones made it about as interesting as it could be. He made me much more engaged in the class than I thought possible, and made the two hours go by a lot quicker. He's really funny too, with some interesting stories. It's just three tests and a summary essay, which are really not that bad, as long as you just study. He gives study guides for each test too, which basically cover exactly what you need to know.

Terry Jones was an amazing professor! World Prehistory sounds awful, and it's not exactly captivating, but he tried his best to make it understandable and easy for everyone. He also gave out a study guide for every test which was amazing. Very helpful if you have questions. He was very entertaining and funny, one of my favorite professors!

Got put into this class first quarter, and didn't think the polyratings were so bad so I went with it. Turns out I spent most of my time studying for this class because there's just so much information! Jones is a great guy but this class is too much work just to fulfill a GE.

I was actually sort of excited to take this class. The lectures weren't that bad and the material wasn't that hard to grasp. However, his midterms and final had so much information on them that no matter how hard I studied I still barely passed. I did go to every lecture and took excellent notes and made detailed flashcards based on the study guides, but it wasn't enough to even get a B! Jones is a really cool guy and has some interesting stories about working in the archaeology field, but don't take this class if you're looking for an easy A. Also, he doesn't use PolyLearn, which was a bummer because I found his grades on the midterms extremely confusing.

Dr. Jones is a great professor! He fills a pretty boring class with humor and pictures and stories from his expeditions. Anthropology was my least favorite topic because I think that it is a very boring subject but Dr. Jones tried his hardest to make it interesting and keep your attention. The midterms and final are all non-cumulative and are very straightforward. He posts all of his powerpoints online in case you miss a lecture and he was very helpful in office hours. I cannot recommend Dr. Jones enough for ANT 202. Great professor!

Is legit and passionate about the subject matter and a great professor, study guides are really long but I basically just made quizlet flash cards a couple days before the midterms/final and studied the day before for ~3 hours and pulled a B. Easy B, good class especially for getting blocked into your fall quarter (Like me). I really tried to like the subject material, but after the first midterms I stopped doing the readings and was still fine. Subject sucks, but Jones is a great professor and the class isn't really that hard.

Terry is a great professor. He presents the material clearly, keeps the class interesting, and just seems like a good guy in general. This class is a bit challenging though, because there is so much material to be learned. Taking this course consists of nothing more than sitting through a long but interesting 2 hour lecture twice a week, having no homework, and studying about 2-4 hours for each midterm.

I'm going to be completely honest with you guys. You don't have to show up to class to get a B in it; I'm living proof. Every class period, my friend and I would decide to get food instead because we knew that we could study the terms on our own and that this class would not be pertinent to our major or hobbies later in the future. All you have to do is be able to spend 2-3 days before a test and study to know what each term is and the time it's involved with. For every test, there is a quizlet that accompanies it, but it is a little dated so it may have more or fewer than the required terms and dates. The tests are pretty straight forward, the first two midterms are 90 questions with most of the being MC and T/F with 5ish short answer that will appear on the final again. The final was much longer, but not hard at all, especially if you study for 3 or so days. Overall, Jones is a great guy. I kind of wish that I had attended more of his classes, but they're just go long and dull (no offense, but a few of the times I did go to your class, I ended up falling asleep or playing a game). If I would have attended class, I'm positive that I could have gotten an A because I remember most nearly everything said in a lecture, but if you want a B and don't want to show up, this is a good class for that. Not to sound rude to Prof. Jones, he's a great guy and actually cares about his students and their success, but history has never been my thing and I find it very boring and something that I can teach myself if necessary.

Dr. Jones is a very good professor who teaches a pretty bad course. All in all you can basically choose to either do the readings or go to class, they cover about the same material. Lectures are long and boring but Dr. Jones tries to make it interesting. He actually does a very good job, all things considered, however I simply didn't enjoy the course. I did a fair bit of studying and ended up with a B+. All in all I respect Dr. Jones, and ANT 202 is mostly quick and mostly painless. I got my Gen Ed credit and I'm happy.

Terry is great! I really wasn't sure what to expect with this class, but he made the material very interesting. He's a great lecturer and knows how to present material well. If you actually put the time in to study for his exams you can do well in the class. That being said, if you don't like being graded on only a few things throughout the quarter this is not the class for you. The entire class grade was based on two midterms, a final, and a paper based on an out of class lecture.

The course is made up of 2 quizzes (4% each), 1 brief summary of an out-of-class lecture (6%), 2 midterms (25% each), and a final (35%). I would say that this class is a reasonably easy B, but a pretty difficult A. 95% of the test material is covered in lectures, so like previous polyratings have mentioned, I didn't think the readings were super useful. If I were to take the class again, I would just skim the key terms before each class to get a general idea of what the lecture would be about; there are just but a few terms solely from the text that he will test you on, and he lets you know which ones they are, so you'll be able to look those up easily. My friends and I earned 100% on the quizzes and the brief summary; just put a few hours of effort into them. The first quiz is an in-class essay about one concept from a list of concepts he tells you to study; the second quiz he puts a picture on the screen and you need to identify the artifact and/or what time it is dated to. As for the summary paper, Terry just wants to see that you went to the lecture and you can give a general explanation of what was talked about. These really weren't bad whatsoever, don't stress super hard about these. The tests were fair; I earned B's on all of them by studying a few days before. Try not to cram because it sorta is a good amount of information with dates included. In terms of the dates, he tests some on specific dates, but definitely focus more on learning and understanding chronological time sequences and sites, people, artifacts, etc. associated with those periods. Use the quizlets people have made online, those will help, but make sure to compare them to your notes and the powerpoints that he posts to assure the information is correct. There's no day-to-day stress, just reading that he assigns to keep up to speed (but like I said, I don't think those were entirely necessary). Go to class, and take good notes and that should be sufficient enough. I had to study a ton for the final, don't underestimate his final exam though because you have to know your stuff to do well; make sure to allocate some time during dead week to look things over. As for Professor Jones as a person and lecturer, I loved him. He's a funny, intelligent, and clear lecturer who teaches, in my opinion, a pretty dry topic. You can tell how much he loves this stuff though, so he makes class enjoyable enough. One downside is that his slides and fact sheets are a bit disorganized, but if you take detailed notes, you should be good to go. Jones was personable and engaging; definitely a professor who I've liked more than others. I give Jones and his class an 8-8.5/10. I thought everything about the class was good. I didn't hate or love it it for the most part; I was pretty indifferent. Also, sit towards the front of the silo, it'll make class 10x more engaging. Good luck!

Professor Jones is great. I got blocked into this class first quarter and wasn't sure what to expect because World Prehistory sounds like such a boring class. Prof. Jones acknowledged this at the beginning of the class and consequently did his best to make what could have been an otherwise super dry and boring class fun. He's passionate about the subject and a good lecturer and that really shows, so the lectures were long but still interesting and well organized. There is definitely a lot of material to learn so if you're looking for an easy GE this may not be it, but an A is definitely attainable with some effort. The class consists of two quizzes (4% each), two midterms (25% each), a brief summary paper of an out of class lecture (6%) and a final (35%). The first quiz was a short essay on a main topic from class and the second was identifying types of artifacts from slides. The midterms and final were all the same format (multiple choice, true/false, and some fill in) and were non cumulative but covered a lot of information so definitely required a lot of studying. He gave out a study guide for each exam which was super helpful. Just show up, do the readings, and take notes on the fact sheets he gives out weekly, and you'll be fine. Overall, I learned a lot and enjoyed the class and would highly recommend taking Prof. Jones for ANT 202.

Professor Jones is a skilled orator and teacher in this course. He never fails to interject humor and interesting tidbits even during the most boring of lectures. His homework load is light-to-nonexistent, and his tests are based upon rote memorization. It is this last fact that earns the ire of more than a few students: Jones' course is based upon rote memorization of the most dry facts with no real creative thinking involved. In sum, Jones is an amiable, approachable professor who appears to enjoy this course.

Terry Jones is the f****** man! This was my first class my freshman quarter and I did not know what to expect. Jones clearly laid out how to do well in the class and what was expected. For the most part it was pretty engaging but there were times where it got boring (pretty expected for a 2 hour block). I would recommend paying specific attention to the point he emphasizes (sounds pretty obvious). It is a low of information though so exams are somewhat hard. Thankfully, the final is comprehensive so it's not too bad. I would recommend this class to anyone looking to fulfill a GE requirement.

Professor Jones is a fantastic lecturer and an even greater archeologist. Not only is he passionate about what he teaches, but he makes his Anthropology class easy to understand. A good portion of his lectures do include a practical segment in which he actually will demonstrate the creation of prehistoric tools. As far as workload, he gives minimal, if any homework, his quizzes are easy if you do the readings and/or go to his lectures. Midterms are on the same level as the quizzes, but if history is naturally easy to understand for you, minimal, if any, studying is required. Easy A for major requirements.

Professor Jones has definitely mastered all of the world prehistory information he will give you. He is very helpful when providing you with materials. He sends out fact sheets before lectures. I definitely recommend taking notes on them. He does assign reading that if you fall behind on, can be quite a bit of information. But it all directly relates to the lectures. The key to success for his class is to be able to match the artifacts and features to their dates and occasionally the people who made the discovery. For the midterms, he was kind enough to send out key terms lists. You have to put the information together but it will benefit you if you are able to remember information off of them. It can be hard to take notes just from his slides so I recommend writing down information as he speaks and at the end of class or a few days later, rewriting (at the very least) those parts of your notes. He is really nice and you can definitely approach him if you have questions.

Personally, I am not a history person so I found this subject kind of boring, but Professor Jones did his best to make it as entertaining and interesting as possible. This class is pretty easy to pass, but if you're looked to get a good grade (high B, A), it does require a lot of work because there are lots of terms, facts, people, and dates to memorize and it takes a whole ton of time. There are only two quizzes, two midterms, and the final that goes into your grade and the entire class is based on memorization so there is no critical thinking or anything. Jones is an awesome professor though and he does make the information clear and lectures well, it's the content itself that I found dull and uninteresting. But if you are a history person, this is definitely a great class to take.

Honestly a great professor. The class isn't that hard as long as you actually know most of the stuff on the study guide. If you memorize the people, places, and dates, you will be totally fine. Look up quizlets for filling in the study guides. Actually a pretty interesting class. It seems very hard at the beginning but I got a 94% on the second midterm. When in doubt, put true!!! No homework other than a 1 page paper which isn't even hard and is super manageable. If you study and somewhat show up to class you can get an easy B in the class

Dr. Jones is one of my all-time favorite professors I've had at Cal Poly. Without a doubt, take him! I had him my first quarter as a freshman last year, and would do it again in a heartbeat. He made the class incredibly engaging and I found the material very interesting, which was a pleasant surprise as I had no interest in anthropology before I got to Cal Poly. I almost considered switching my major into Anthro after taking his class. He also makes it very clear what you need to know for his exams. The exams do require a lot of memorization of fossil names, dates, sites, ect., however it is not hard if you put in the effort to study the material. We took a few quizzes (where he showed pictures of different stone tools and we had to write down the name of what it was), and he always managed to allude to the answer which made it really easy on everyone to get it right. I wouldn't say the class is an "Easy A", as I did have to study quite a bit to memorize the material, however it was nice to know exactly what we would be tested on ahead of time because we knew exactly what questions to expect. If you put in the effort to learn the material, you will get a good grade.

This is your average history class, meaning a bunch of memorizing, long lectures, but a cool professor. Here's a quizlet folder with both midterms, final, and quizzes: https://quizlet.com/class/12437225/ The positives: If I was majoring in archeology and actually liked history this class would be a great one. Don't get the book or read it, for a few terms on midterms/final that are from the text, just look it up This means no homework aside from memorizing for tests Dr. Jones is cool, good lecturer who cracks some jokes. The quarter is very organized, with fact sheets for each day of lecture *note* the fact sheets don't replace his lectures as he goes into more detail or introduces a topic not on the fact sheet, especially towards the end, so while he doesn't take role, you will miss a decent amount of information if you skip class The negatives: It gets boring quickly long lectures (although we get a break) midterms and final are very long, just look at the quizlet for someone not wanting to study for each test 5+ hours to get a solid A, don't take this class, but for a B, not too bad this class is designed for cramming unless you personally want to memorize for long term - meaning that in 10 years this class for the student not majoring in archeology will be useless If you are on the fence just look at the quzlets, if you think you can memorize those, this GE won't be too bad

I am not a history person at all let alone prehistory and I actually really liked this class. I think prehistory is overlooked and something people should know about even just a little considering I had never heard of the subject before I took this class. My one recommendation is to go to class everyday and pay attention because it is not a fun subject to teach yourself unless you like reading textbooks. Pretty straightforward teaching and we only had an essay that you get full credit on if you complete it, two quizzes, two midterms and a final. The midterms can be sort of annoying to study for just because you have to memorize human species and archaeologists and where human remains were discovered. Definitely would take this class anyways!

Dr. Jones loves to teach the class material and does his best to get the class excited about it. The lectures are easy to follow, he doesn't assign homework, and the midterms and final are 95% multiple choice. The only problem is that the tests are based on your pure memorization of the lecture content. You need to be able to remember tons of dates, names, and locations. The class is easy, but don't slack on studying. Everything will blur together if you don't!

Dr. Terry Jones is certainly well informed and interested in the subject matter. He gives clear and organized lectures and even provides students with lecture notes at no cost! In office hours he will help any students who are having trouble understanding the material, or who simply want to know more. His exams could be considered challenging, but not unreasonably so. He only tests on what is explicitly assigned or covered in lecture and he provides study guides as well. First off, I think Jones is an awesome guy. His experience and knowledge in his field is impressive. He truly loves archaeology. That being said, if you don't love archaeology, history, and memorization, I would not particularly recommend this class. His lectures for ANT 309 were not as smooth as for ANT 202, and while interesting as a whole, the lectures felt as though they dragged on. Jones is almost too enthusiastic, he goes off on tangents often, making it harder to stay focused. Despite all this, Jones realizes that archaeology isn't for everyone and does his best to help his students; he grades generously, he gives an outline for every lecture, as well as study exams for the midterm and final. When I took this class, it consisted of a midterm, a final, and a research paper for which he required an annotated bibliography and an outline.
