He may look like a mad scientist, but Dr. Jones is a really nice guy and I enjoyed taking lab with him. He's very laid back and he doesn't give you any trouble as long as you do the work.

Dr. Jones definitely looks like a mad scientist, but he is very nice. If you ever need help, ask! He is so willing to help his students. He has short quizzes right before each lab that consist of three of four questions. 80% of the class is based on lab reports and the other 20% is based on quizzes. So basically you coud still pass the class if you fail the quizzes, but you must come to lab and turn in the lab reports. Overall, this was a fun lab!

DJ is the man. He is the greatest chemistry teacher there is! He presents the material in a way that is clear and interesting; he is so passionate about chemistry and his students. There are approximately 5 quizzes and he drops the lowest one. There are 2 midterms and a final. Many of the questions are similar to the quizzes. Oh, I forgot to mention he allows you to use the homework for the quizzes, but the time to do them is short so it is best to know how to do the stuff. The first quiz was startling and for many of us it was the lowest grade. Read the chapters, do the homework assignments, understand them, and you are set. The tests are very similar to the quizzes, but, in my opinion, a tad bit easier. I absolutely love DJ! This class was fantastic and I am pretty upset I got a B+ rather than an A, but I learned a lot, so it\'s okay. TAKE HIM FOR CHEMISTRY IF YOU GET THE CHANCE!!!

Good professor, understands students needs and was very fair with his tests and materials. Fairly easy class considering it was chem, almost weekly quizzes helped keep up with the material. Definitely would recommend Dr. Jones.

Dr. Jones is an excellent professor who actually makes chemistry interesting. You can tell from the first day that he loves teaching, and he definitely has his own style. He reminds me of a wacky rocket scientist. Take his course.

I don't know why Dr. Jones has such a low rating. He's a great teacher and I didn't realize that untill I had other teachers. His first test is pretty hard and its made that way so study (it's actually really easy once you look at it at the end of the quarter). It mostly consist of mltiple choice questions. His second test is made so you wont be able to finish it in time, but he curved it A LOT (my best score actually). His last test and Final were actually pretty fair. He has trouble making eye contact but he does a farily good job at presenting the material. I wish I could have him again.

Ah...Jones is hillarious (or at least he thinks so). He is a really tough test giver, so study your butt off. I studied a lot, and took the SI class, and pulled through with a C. The people that did good in my class were Chem/Bio nerds with no lives. I was happy about my grade though, I learned a lot. Jones is a teacher who actually CARES about his students. I recommend him if you are prepared to learn and work hard. Jones also gives curves, so that helped a lot. Go see him in an office hour if you don't understand something. Other than that, good luck. "Chemisty is just wacky!"

I had Dr. Jones for both lecture and lab. Hes got to be one of the best professors at CalPoly. He is extremely nice when you approach him with questions and explains the material very clearly. His tests were really hard so expect to study a lot. The good thing is that he takes off only a fraction of a point if you make a small mistake. He is absolutely great in lab. The lab quizzes (4 of them) are really easy and he presents the labs so clearly. I would recommend Jones in a heartbeat, I would take him for every future chem course if I could.

I would really like to know what classes Jones actually teaches, so I could take them. I had him as a lab instructor for Keeling's Chem 127, and I was very satisfied. He's an awsome professor, his pre-lab lectures are on the spot and very helpful for both the labs themselves and the quizes. Definitely take him if you can

EXTREMELY helpful professor. he seems to really enjoy students asking him questions, and leads you to find the answer in a helpful way if theres anything you dont know. although he was only my lab professor, i went to his office hours with questions about lecture material too, and he was more than happy to help. he expects a lot from his students, so be sure to study and be on top of your game. but overall, a very helpful and fair professor who knows how to teach.

Dr. Jones is such a great professor!! I had him as my professor for lab in chem 127 and he was so helpful during experiments as well as in his office hours. If you actually put forth some effort to learn the how to do the problems you would at least get a C. Just ask him your questions, and he will willingly answer and make things really clear. Take his section if you get the chance!

GREAT TEACHER. No grade yet cause I'm at the tail end of the quarter and haven't finished yet. If Chem isn't easy to you already, he makes it a piece of cake. He explains EXTREMELY CLEARLY in lecture, with a bit of humor (nothing that distracts from lecture, but really funny). If you go to lecture, you will know most of what's on the tests. DO THE HOMEWORK, though, cause there's plenty of things you think you know that YOU DON'T. Minor details could screw you over on the tests. Review sessions before exams are extremely useful. He gives you little tidbits he didn't give you in class. Very clear and the tests are predictable. He gives you everything that's on them. Awesome guy. Take him if you can.

I would not recommend Jones as a professor. He is a punk of a professor and like to flaunt the fact that he has a doctorate. His lectures are extremely disorganized and hard to follow. He even said that he talks about things that we are not required to know just because he finds them interesting. There are also things that he expects you to know and will never even mention in lecture. His office hours are usually crowded and it is difficult to get your questions answered. He provides practice problems before exams, but without answers so it is impossible to know if you are doing the problems correctly. I would highly recommend doing all the homework problems he assigns because you are allowed to use those on the quizzes, which are pretty much weekly. He cracks jokes throughout his lectures, which only somone with a fairly good understanding of chemistry would understand. The only good thing I found about Jones was that he would not count your first exam against you if you showed you learned the material on the final. The grading breakdown was 5% quizzes, 40% midterms, 30% final, 25% lab. All in all, not a terrific professor and I would avoid taking him if at all possible. Go for Schoonover...he is the best chem professor I have found.

Dr. Jones is a good teacher for chem 129. His grading policy is fair. If you received a low grade on the first midterm, don't worry too much. Once the final exam arrives, you have an opportunity to redeem yourself and prove to him that you know the material well; he puts a few questions similar to the ones that were on the first and second exam. The supplemental worksheets are useful- try to do all of them. His tests are fair but it could have contained more conceptual types of questions like yes/no and fill in the blanks. Dr. Jones tries to make the class a little more interesting by telling jokes and stories relating to Chemistry. For lab, he does a good job of explaining and helping his students understand the underlying concepts. I am glad I had him for at least one of my chemistry classes here at Cal Poly.

Dr. Jones is a good professor. He is tough, but if you go into office hours when you don't understand a concept he is extremely helpful and really recognizes what you're having trouble with. Jones is a good guy and I think he curves the final grade so I'd suggest taking this class.

Great professor. I really just paid attention in class, did a very small amount of homework and studied for the tests. That is, I did way less work than he recommended and got a B. That is not to say the subject matter is extremely easy, but it is definitely doable and with work a B or A should be attainable for almost anyone.

Dr. Jones is a great professor, he is fun and makes class interesting. He is always tryng to get people involved in both class and lab and wants his students to be self sufficient by the end of the quarter. I suggest office hours. I went from day one and he was sooooo helpful. I went more often towards the end of the quarter, I thought I was going to fail, but I ended up with a B, I dont know if that was him or me, though...

Do not be fooled by the ratings on Jones, he is SO HARD. I have already taken 129 and am retaking it, and still failed both of my midterms. His quizzes are fine since they are take home, but the midterms are impossibly hard and long so I never finished. He is a nice teacher but goes WAY too fast and expects you to know everything super fast. I would wait until Bush is teaching 129, Jones kills your GPA for sure

Jone's class was hard, and I definitely struggled, but he is very understanding and willing to help. Points wise I ended up with a F in his class and he curved me to a D because he does not like failing students. The subject is just (in my opinion) nearly impossible.

This is the first time I have felt compelled to post about a teacher, however the disconnect between his current rating and my experience is so outrageous, I felt I should put in my two cents for what it's worth. Let me start out with, he's a great guy, but a terrible teacher. He spends far too much time telling stories in his one hour lecture while barely touching on the material. While he covers general topics, his tests require you to know every exception to every rule. I studied hard for every test, did the homework more times then I can count, reviewed the quizzes (which were very simple and to the point), yet was never able to finish the tests on time(like everyone else in the class). He gives very little partial credit, relies heavily on multiple choice (usually 4 pts each), and adds material barely discussed or mentioned in the homework. My advice, remember EVERY detail. Remember EVERY exception. And study A LOT.

Dr. Jones is a great teacher. Having pretty bad experiences with my teachers for Chem 127 and 128, Jones was much much better. The class itself was extremely hard but I think Jones was able to present the materials as clearly as possible. The tests were very challenging, the final was nearly impossible, but his office hours were helpful and he is definitely the best chemistry teacher I have had at Poly. I would definitely recommend him.

He is an awesome professor. Chemistry has always been a tough subject for me, but Jones makes it do-able. Yes It is hard, and this class requires a lot of studying for the tests; you have to know every exception. But it is an interesting class, and Jones has a great personality, which helps staying awake in morning lecture.

Dr. Jones is amazing! I cannot say enough good things about him. I have always been pretty good at chemistry, but this quarter was a bit of a challenge for me. Throughout the quarter I panicked, doubted myself, freaked out- and Dr. Jones was there with me through it all. I visited him pretty much weekly in his office hours and he was always willing to go through my seemingly endless list of questions about minute details. The material presented right before the second midterm really threw me for a loop. I had never felt so confused or lost in any class in my life. I sent Dr. Jones a panicky email and he was very reassuring and helped to boost my confidence that I could learn the material. I studied for about four days straight and emailed him throughout the weekend pictures I took on my phone of the problems I was doing with a question mark where I got stuck. He answered all of my emails within an hour or two, sometimes less, and offered encouragement along the way. He truly goes beyond the call of duty to make sure his students succeed! If you want to get a good grade and are willing to put in a ton of effort to really understand the material, it IS possible.

The most helpful thing you can do for yourself in this class is take the SWS Workshop! While the class is manageable, the sws teachers make worksheets with practice problems and made it so easy for me to know what to study.

Dr. Jones is an excellent investment in your future, anybody who knows anything, or has ever gone anywhere has been sent off by Dr. Jones. In spite of the rigors of P-chem what Jones sets you up for is success in other arenas. He is demanding, and there are times you feel like you're going to break but if you bite the bullet you will be pleasantly surprised in the end. Chem 349 was one of the easiest classes i have had to take. It was also very interesting. There were nine groups who had to present on different aspects of chemical and biological warfare. Dr. jones never lectured at all, it was all the students. There only test we had was the final, which the students submitted questions and dr. jones printed them all out for us. Then we went over the answers the day before the final so the final was cake. We also had a research paper and 2 current events to report on. Most of the time it was groups presenting, videos or guest speakers. This class did leave me scared every time though because of the subject content.

I expect to get a C in Dr. Jones' class. The guy two above mine must have had some personal thing against Dr. Jones. If he got an A he must have done well. I think someone lied about their grade huh? p-chem is way hard but Dr. Jones wants to help you. He has endless office hours and gives numerous handouts. He also curves A LOT to help as many people pass as possible. Dr. Jones does not make this class hard, it is just that way. He tries to make it as painless as possible. Dr. Jones is a great professor. The subject of Physical Chem can be hard but he makes it alot easier. He really understands his students and he will do anything to make sure you understand as long as you also put in the effort. Basically, Dane Jones is awesome and explains everything we memorized in general chem. Dr jones teaches abstract concepts in the most understandable way, the only hard part was remembering it and applying it to friggin hard questions! If you know how to do all the problems on his sample exam handouts...you're golden because thats 75% of his tests. His final...i thought was hard but if you studied a lot you probably would have done well. I'm expecting to get a high B or A in this class...and if i can do it...believe me everyone can.

Dr. Jones is a wonderful lecturer, but that's about it. Some of his test/quiz questions have nothing to do with his long homework assignments (during the first quiz he said he didn't cover one of the questions but he graded it all the same) and he gives last minute explanations for stuff that he tells you will be on the test which doesn't leave much time to make sure you understand the material.
