Since this was a huge lecture class, he wasn't able to work closely with his students to identify learning issues, but he was more than helpful if you saw him during office hours. Outstanding public speaker, his lectures were always incredibly interesting and insightful. I learned a lot. The class seems intimidating at first, but it's actually a very manageable class and he is a great guy and a nice teacher, highly recommend! Study a LOT for the quizzes because they are more difficult than the tests.

I'll refer to Professor Wiseman simply as Maury, because he's basically the type of guy that I just want to kick back with and drink a beer. He's honestly one of the nicest professors I've had, and he truly cares about the students. He really went above and beyond this past quarter. However, aside from Prof. Wiseman's personable nature, I found his class itself to be incredibly frustrating. The quizzes were insanely hard, and even if you had read all the material you had to spend hours the day before a quiz to continually reread. Each quiz covered way too much information for a small amount of points overall. This class needs some restructuring and increased organization. In upcoming quarters I'm sure this will be a 5/5 class, but I have to give Wiseman an average score this quarter due to the frustrating quiz structure and his general lack of organization.

Professor Wiseman was always happy to be in class, and knew his lecture material very well. Although his class was two hours he was a very good speaker which kept me interested. This was his first year at Cal Poly, his class definitely needs some restructuring when it comes to the quizzes. You need to read all of the assigned chapters, and answer all the questions at the end of each section, then the day before the quizzes go BACK and re-do them. The final grade consisted of a final take home paper on a topic of your choice, a midterm (which was super easy), a final, and quizzes. Each category was waited evenly. His office hours are super helpful, and he overall is very understanding of the fact that we have other classes.

Maury is the coolest professor I have had at Cal Poly. He knows the material very well and keeps the class interesting. The class consists of four quizzes (25%), one midterm (25%), one essay (25%), and the final (25%). The midterm and final both consist of two short essays and one longer essay. The essay topics are somewhat general so as long as you were paying attention during the lecture, you will have something to write about. There are a lot of readings but you do not need to read any of them. It will only cost ou about one point on each exam and didn't seem worth it to me.
